How to Set Up FFmpeg to Loop Videos on YouTube Live in India

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To loop a prerecorded video on YouTube Live with FFmpeg, put -stream_loop -1 before the input file, read it at real-time speed with -re, and send the output to the RTMPS stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. The workflow is the same in India as elsewhere; the official setup guidance does not specify a separate India-only command or ingest address.

Before you start: enable YouTube Live and get your stream details

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule a stream in Live Control Room.
  2. Open the stream settings and copy its stream URL and stream key. Use the RTMPS URL where available; YouTube recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection to its servers.
  3. Keep the key private. Anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Do not put a real key in a public command, screenshot, or article.
  4. If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow up to 24 hours for activation. Confirm live streaming is enabled before relying on the setup.

YouTube’s official encoder setup describes this general workflow rather than a distinct process for India. Test from the computer and network you will actually use; the cited guidance does not establish India-specific eligibility limits, upload speeds, or local connection performance.

Set up FFmpeg to loop a video on YouTube Live

This example re-encodes a local MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, outputting a 720p30-style stream. Replace the filename and placeholder RTMPS destination with the values for your own stream. Do not paste a real stream key into public code.

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "input.mp4"
  -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
  -b:v 6000k -maxrate 6000k -bufsize 12000k -g 60
  -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
  -f flv "rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_HOST/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"

What to replace and what the options do

  • input.mp4: the local video file. Use its actual path if it is not in the current directory.
  • -re: reads the file at native timing, which is appropriate for a live-style output rather than sending the file as fast as possible.
  • -stream_loop -1: loops the input indefinitely. It is an input option, so it belongs before -i.
  • -c:v libx264 and -c:a aac: encode video as H.264 and audio as AAC, both supported by YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance.
  • -b:v 6000k -maxrate 6000k -bufsize 12000k: set a 6 Mbps video target, maximum rate, and rate-control buffer. The example’s bitrate is within YouTube’s published 720p30 H.264 range; it is not a guarantee that your connection can sustain it.
  • -g 60: sets a 60-frame GOP, nominally a two-second keyframe interval at 30 fps.
  • -b:a 128k -ar 44100: sets audio to 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz, matching YouTube’s listed stereo recommendations. The example assumes the input has an audio track.
  • -f flv: selects the output container used for this RTMP-style ingest command.

Start FFmpeg from a terminal or command prompt where it is installed. When it connects, check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages rather than assuming that a running FFmpeg process means the stream is correctly configured.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Choose bitrate, resolution, and keyframes

YouTube recommends constant-bitrate encoding, a two-second keyframe interval, and says the interval should not exceed four seconds. Select the bitrate row for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you are actually sending. These are YouTube Help’s current recommendations; the page does not give them a publication year, and they are not a promise of stable delivery over any particular connection.

H.264 output YouTube-listed minimum YouTube-listed recommended bitrate
720p30 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
720p60 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p30 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p60 6 Mbps 17 Mbps

The table is specifically for H.264. YouTube lists separate recommendations for AV1 and H.265/HEVC, so do not apply these H.264 figures to a different codec. Your sustained upload capacity must accommodate the stream; test the real connection and leave room for normal network variation.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
  • Protocol: use the RTMPS address from Live Control Room when available. The ordinary RTMP address may be shown by default, so check that the endpoint you copy is actually RTMPS.
  • Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS. H.264 is used here for broad compatibility.
  • Bitrate mode: use constant bitrate (CBR) and choose a rate appropriate to your output settings.
  • Keyframes: target one every two seconds. At fixed 30 fps, a 60-frame GOP is the example used above.
  • Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3; its stereo guidance lists 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps.
  • Resolution: YouTube recommends automatic detection by default. A custom stream key can be used for manual resolution settings.

Re-encode or copy the source?

The command above re-encodes, which gives you control over the output codec and rate settings at the cost of CPU work on the computer running FFmpeg. If the source is already suitable for YouTube ingest, FFmpeg stream copy can reduce CPU load. Copy mode does not change the source codec, resolution, bitrate, frame rate, or keyframes, so inspect the file and confirm it meets your target settings before relying on it. FFmpeg documents copy as stream copy; it is not a quality-conversion option.

Test and monitor the broadcast

  1. Run a preflight test with movement and audio similar to the planned broadcast. YouTube Help’s instruction is: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
  2. Confirm the Live Control Room preview shows the expected video and audio, then read its stream-health status and warnings.
  3. Check the copied stream URL and key if FFmpeg cannot connect. Each belongs to the selected stream in Live Control Room.
  4. Keep monitoring while live. YouTube’s API distinguishes stream states such as active, inactive, ready, and error; an incoming stream may be active while still reporting configuration problems.

Troubleshooting common FFmpeg-to-YouTube problems

  • FFmpeg rejects the connection or YouTube receives nothing: verify the ingest URL and key belong to the selected stream, and check for accidental spaces or truncation. Confirm you copied the RTMPS endpoint if you are using RTMPS.
  • SSL or connection errors with RTMPS: check that the URL uses the correct RTMPS server and that your FFmpeg build supports RTMPS. YouTube identifies an incorrect RTMPS URL or protocol as a possible cause of SSL and connection errors.
  • The stream connects but YouTube reports health warnings: inspect the warning and compare your actual codec, bitrate, frame rate, resolution, audio, and keyframe interval with the selected output and YouTube’s guidance. A process running locally does not prove ingest is healthy.
  • The file plays only once: check that -stream_loop -1 is before the input’s -i option.
  • The output is too fast or does not behave like a live stream: confirm -re appears before the file input so FFmpeg reads it at native timing.
  • No audio reaches YouTube: this command assumes an audio track in the MP4. For a silent source, do not assume the command works unchanged; add an audio source or configure a silent audio stream, then test that YouTube receives both streams. YouTube’s guidance permits AAC or MP3, but the cited official page does not provide an FFmpeg-specific silent-audio command.
  • Encoding overload or dropped frames: re-encoding requires compute capacity. If the source already matches the desired ingest format, investigate stream copy; otherwise reduce output demands or use a machine that can encode the chosen settings, then repeat the preflight test.
  • Live streaming is not available yet: confirm it is enabled for the channel. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.

Or let it run in the cloud

FFmpeg keeps the stream running only while the computer, process, and network connection stay available. If you want a prerecorded YouTube stream to continue without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on YouTube: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It is not a camera-live service.
