For several clips, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. YouTube’s Loop control on a watch page repeats playback for a viewer; it does not create a live broadcast.
Choose the right kind of loop

OBS documents common video and audio file types, but compatibility depends on the file and its codecs; do not assume every media file will play. A single Media Source is the simpler choice for one file, while the VLC source suits a multi-clip sequence. OBS’s media-source documentation describes these controls.
Set up a single looping video in OBS
- Check YouTube Live eligibility. YouTube’s current setup guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guide.
- Open OBS and choose a scene. Select an existing scene or create one for the broadcast.
- Add the video source. In the Sources area, select +, choose Media Source, name it if prompted, and select the local video file in its properties.
- Enable the repeat setting. In the Media Source properties, check Loop, then apply the changes. OBS defines this setting as replaying the file after playback completes.
- Connect OBS to YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or manage the stream and connect OBS as the encoder using the stream key and server details YouTube provides. YouTube describes the stream key as the key/password and address information that lets the encoder send a feed for YouTube to accept. Keep the key private. If it is compromised, an owner or manager can reset it.
- Check the preview and sound. Confirm the video appears and audio is audible in OBS and in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview before sharing the watch link.
OBS’s labels and YouTube Studio’s layout can change. For the source properties, consult OBS Media Sources; for connecting the encoder and stream key, consult YouTube’s setup guide.
Loop multiple videos as a playlist
- Install VLC. If OBS is 64-bit, OBS says to install 64-bit VLC for this source.
- In your OBS scene’s Sources area, select + and choose VLC Video. If the source is missing, check that VLC is installed and that its 32-bit or 64-bit version matches OBS.
- Configure the playlist with the clips you want to play, then enable Loop Playlist.
- Connect OBS to YouTube Live and check the resulting picture and audio in the preview before sharing the stream.

Protect the stream from avoidable interruptions
Use content you have the right to broadcast
YouTube’s live-stream terms state: “The Live Content must comply with the YouTube Community Guidelines.” They also require creators to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and YouTube’s copyright guidance before broadcasting material you did not create or license.
Understand live copyright matching
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another copyrighted live broadcast. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it temporarily, or terminate it if the material remains. A license by itself may not prevent a disruption: YouTube advises asking the rights holder to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Check YouTube’s live copyright guidance if a stream is interrupted.

Respect channel restrictions and concurrency limits
YouTube’s current help guidance, accessed in 2026, sets limits of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key; both limits apply. YouTube also says a channel with a live-streaming restriction cannot use another channel to stream while the restriction remains, and attempts to circumvent the restriction may result in termination. Troubleshoot a loop that will not play or stay live

These checks identify settings and platform conditions documented by OBS and YouTube; they do not guarantee a seamless join between repetitions or uninterrupted broadcasting.
