The playlist controls what plays; YouTube scheduling creates the event. This workflow is the same for creators in India: use the local time zone shown in Studio and test on the computer and connection you plan to use.
Check YouTube live eligibility before preparing the queue
YouTube’s general eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. Check the intended channel before scheduling an unattended or recurring show: YouTube’s live-stream eligibility requirements.
Build the episode queue in OBS Studio
Prepare the files and choose playback behavior
Put the recordings in a dedicated folder on the computer that will run OBS. Decide whether the broadcast should stop after one pass or repeat the list. Check that each file plays correctly before relying on it in a live show; support for a format does not guarantee that every encoding of that format will work.
Add an ordered VLC playlist
- Install VLC, which OBS requires for its VLC Video source.
- In OBS, use the Sources panel to add a VLC Video source.
- Open that source’s properties and add the episode files to its playlist in the desired order.
- Leave shuffle off for predictable sequencing. Enable or disable looping according to whether the queue should repeat; OBS documents that looping is on by default for VLC Video.
- Preview the source and check the order, picture, and audio. For a single recording that should simply loop, OBS’s ordinary Media Source can play a local file and loop it; VLC Video is the appropriate option for a multi-episode playlist.
OBS’s documentation describes playlist playback, looping, and supported media sources: OBS media sources (documentation dated January 11, 2022). Keep the source files available locally for the entire broadcast.

Connect OBS to a scheduled YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, open Create and choose Go live to enter Live Control Room. Use Manage to schedule the event, set its date and time, and confirm the displayed local time before sharing it.
- Open the event’s stream settings and copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. The key authorizes the encoder feed, so treat it as a password: do not post or share it publicly.
- If a key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement.
- Start OBS early enough to check the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Confirm the correct event is selected, the queue is advancing as expected, and the audio and video are right before using the event’s go-live flow.

Test the broadcast and monitor it while live
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least 2 hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use that lead time to check the preview and event accessibility, verify queue order and audio/video quality, and confirm that a local archive file is growing if you are recording locally. During the event, keep monitoring the audio and video and check the archive file. An OBS playlist does not by itself guarantee unattended resilience. The cited OBS and YouTube instructions do not promise recovery from a computer crash or power loss for this setup. Keep someone able to intervene and test the complete queue on the actual machine and connection before the event.
Choose a simple workflow or an API-managed recurring series
For most creators who need episodes to play in order, OBS playlist playback plus YouTube Studio scheduling is the simpler route. Google’s Live Streaming API can programmatically manage scheduled broadcasts, but it does not play local episode files: an encoder must still send the media.

For a recurring series using one encoder with the same streaming settings, Google documents reusing one liveStream resource bound to multiple scheduled liveBroadcast resources. Each broadcast can transition to testing or live. This approach requires implementation and authorization; it is useful when automating broadcast management, not as a replacement for the OBS playlist. See Google’s Live Streaming API workflow.
Plan the ending, archive, and episode rights
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If you rely on automatic archiving, keep the stream under that threshold; the guidance does not promise automatic archive behavior for longer streams. Confirm you have permission to use every episode recording, including music and clips, for the live broadcast and any replay. A playlist only automates playback; it does not establish that the content is cleared for live use or archiving.

- The VLC Video source is missing or will not play. Install VLC, then restart or recheck OBS. Test each file individually, since a listed media format may still fail with a particular encoding.
- Episodes play in the wrong order or repeat unexpectedly. Reorder the VLC playlist, keep shuffle off, and check the loop setting against the intended one-pass or repeating behavior.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS feed. Confirm the correct event, stream URL, and key are selected in OBS. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in OBS.
- The event is not ready at its scheduled time. Start the encoder early, verify the incoming preview and event selection, and follow Live Control Room’s go-live flow.
- The stream stops after the computer loses power or OBS closes. This local workflow depends on the computer and connection running, and the cited documentation does not establish automatic recovery from those failures. Restore the computer and encoder, then verify the event state in Live Control Room.
- No replay appears as expected. Check the stream length and the archive/visibility settings. YouTube’s automatic-archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours, not longer broadcasts.
