Turn on YouTube Autoplay on the device playing the playlist, but don’t count on it to skip every video that errors or is unavailable. YouTube describes Autoplay as starting another video after the current one ends; its help pages do not guarantee that a failed playlist item will be treated as an ended video. If playback stops, troubleshoot the error, then resume or edit the playlist as needed.
Turn on Autoplay on the playback device

Open the YouTube watch screen on the device playing the playlist.

Switch on Autoplay. On desktop, the control is at the bottom of the player; on mobile, it is at the top of the player. TV and casting have their own controls or settings.

Check the setting on the actual playback device. YouTube notes that Autoplay settings can differ between devices. Its Autoplay help page describes the feature as starting another video after the current one ends—not as guaranteed recovery from every playback error.

Autoplay may also stop after inactivity: YouTube Help says after 30 minutes on a mobile network or four hours on Wi‑Fi. A “Continue watching?” prompt may appear after 30 minutes of uninterrupted watching on mobile, 60 minutes on web, or 180 minutes on TV. These are YouTube Help thresholds, verified in 2026.
Troubleshoot the error before changing the playlist
Messages such as “Playback error. Tap to retry,” “This video is unavailable,” or “Something went wrong. Tap to retry” can have different causes. Try the step that matches what you see, following YouTube’s video-error troubleshooting guidance.

Make the sequence easier to resume
On a computer, YouTube lets you add videos to a queue and save that queue as a playlist. The queue itself does not persist after you close the browser, so save it if you want to return to the sequence later. See YouTube’s queue instructions for computers.
You can also manage a playlist’s order using YouTube’s playlist controls. Reordering or removing an item changes the sequence; it does not repair the underlying playback error. For Android playlist management, see YouTube’s playlist instructions.
