ABC pulled Taylor Frankie Paul’s already-filmed Season 22 of The Bachelorette on March 19, 2026, three days before its planned March 22 premiere. The network said it would not move forward with the season “at this time” after a video of a 2023 altercation surfaced. As of a September 3, 2026 report, Disney had not announced that the season would air.
Why was The Bachelorette Season 22 canceled?
ABC said it made the decision after a newly released video surfaced. In its March 19 statement, a Disney Entertainment Television spokesperson said: “In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of ‘The Bachelorette’ at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family.” ABC News reported the statement and the cancellation.
The video, reported as concerning a February 2023 altercation involving Paul and her former partner Dakota Mortensen, was the network’s stated reason for pulling the season. That explanation is distinct from any conclusion about the outcome of a later investigation or the merits of disputed claims.
What was reported about the 2023 legal case?
Legal reporting should be kept separate from ABC’s programming decision. ABC News reported that Paul entered a plea in abeyance in August 2023 to one felony aggravated-assault count; the report said the count could be downgraded to a misdemeanor after three years if she complied with the agreement, and that she was sentenced to probation while the other charges were dismissed. The Associated Press described a misdemeanor assault plea and dismissal of the other counts. These are the outlets’ accounts, not an independent review of court records.

ABC News also summarized a separate investigation that was then open. It should not be conflated with the 2023 case or treated as a finding of wrongdoing. The parties’ responses were also different: ABC News quoted Paul’s representative alleging that she had suffered abuse and threats, while AP reported that Mortensen denied wrongdoing and said his focus was their son’s safety.
Was Season 22 already filmed?
Yes. The Associated Press reported that the season had been filmed before ABC canceled it; AP said Paul posted in December 2025 that filming had wrapped. ABC’s original Season 22 press material had named Paul as the lead and announced a 2026 premiere. ABC’s Season 22 press sheet also said the series would stream on Hulu.

Having filmed episodes does not mean they were released or remain available to viewers. The available reports establish that production was completed, not that the unaired season can be watched.
When was the season canceled, and what happened afterward?
| Date | What was reported |
|---|---|
| 2025 | ABC announced Taylor Frankie Paul as the Season 22 lead and planned a 2026 premiere, with streaming on Hulu, in its official press sheet. |
| December 2025 | According to AP, Paul posted that filming had wrapped. |
| March 19, 2026 | ABC announced it would not move forward with the season, three days before its planned March 22 premiere. AP’s report also described the cancellation and the video. |
| May 8, 2026 | TheWrap reported that the season was not on ABC’s summer schedule. Executive Rob Mills said, “We take everything a day at a time.” Its absence from that slate did not establish a permanent decision about future release. |
| September 3, 2026 | The Daily Beast reported that a preview for an episode of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives showed Paul saying she had briefly become engaged to a person with the initials D.M. during the unaired finale. The outlet said Disney had not announced that the season would air. |
The later finale detail is a media report about a preview, not a substitute for seeing the unaired episode or an official release announcement. TheWrap’s May report and The Daily Beast’s September report describe the status at those respective dates.

Will Taylor Frankie Paul’s season ever air?
There is no confirmed answer. Disney’s wording—“at this time”—did not declare that the season would never be released. TheWrap reported in May that the season was absent from ABC’s summer slate, and The Daily Beast reported in September that Disney had not announced an airing. Neither report determines what ABC or Disney might decide later.

Not on the evidence available here. ABC’s original press sheet identified Hulu as a streaming platform for the series, but that planned platform listing does not establish that the canceled Season 22 was released there. No cited report says viewers can stream the unaired season.
