They were reposted on X and Reddit. HBO said the clips followed an “unintentional release from an international third-party distributor” and that it was working to remove them.
What leaked—and where did the clips spread?
The reports described clips from the finale, not proof that the complete episode had been posted to TikTok. TV Insider reported that more than a dozen videos appeared on July 30, 2024; some footage was described as showing a screen filmed with another device. The clips and spoilers then circulated on X and Reddit, and the original TikTok account was reported as banned or suspended.

TV Insider’s July 31, 2024 report covers the timing and spread. TheWrap’s July 30 report also identified TikTok as the initial source and X and Reddit as places where the clips were reposted.
What did HBO say caused the leak?
HBO attributed the clips to an “unintentional release from an international third-party distributor.” That is the company’s explanation, as reported by TV Insider and TheWrap; those accounts do not independently identify the distributor or establish the full chain of events.

TV Insider relayed the following statement from an HBO spokesperson: “We are aware that clips from the House of the Dragon season finale have surfaced across social media platforms. The clips were posted after an unintentional release from an international third-party distributor. HBO is aggressively monitoring and removing clips from the internet, and fans can watch the episode in its entirety this Sunday night on HBO and Max.”
When was the finale supposed to premiere?
The Season 2 finale was scheduled to premiere on Sunday, August 4, 2024. In its statement, HBO named HBO and Max as destinations to watch the complete episode that night. That announcement documents the planned 2024 premiere; it does not confirm where the season is currently available in every region.

No. TheWrap reported that the Season 1 finale also leaked in 2022, through torrent sites. HBO’s explanation for that earlier incident referred to a distribution partner in the EMEA region. It was a separate event and should not be confused with HBO’s 2024 explanation about the Season 2 clips.
