It could involve a particular title, Hulu’s service, your network, the app, browser, or playback device. First try another title, restart Hulu and the device, then test Hulu on another device or network. Those checks help identify the cause before you try more disruptive fixes.
What Hulu error P-DEV313 means
P-DEV313 is associated with a Hulu playback problem. The code alone does not tell you whether the cause is a Hulu-side issue, an unstable or restricted connection, corrupted app or browser data, outdated software, or a device-specific failure. Hulu’s public Help Center offers general playback troubleshooting rather than a dedicated explanation of this code. See Hulu Help Center and its buffering troubleshooting.
Use the scope of the failure to choose what to try: one title points you toward the content; all titles on one device points toward that app or device; failures across devices on one network point toward the network; failures across devices and networks make a Hulu-side or account issue more plausible. This is a diagnostic approach, not an official Hulu code-to-cause chart.
Start with these quick checks
- Try another title. Exit the failed episode, movie, or live channel and start unrelated content. If only one item fails, note its title and episode or channel.
- Fully close and reopen Hulu. Use the device’s app switcher or app-management controls; returning to the home screen may leave Hulu running. Controls vary by platform. Hulu’s instructions for fully closing the app provide its general guidance.
- Restart the device. Restart the TV, streaming player, phone, tablet, computer, or console—not just its display—and test Hulu again after it reconnects.
- Restart your modem and router if other services are also having trouble. Close Hulu, unplug both devices, wait at least 30 seconds, reconnect the modem first, and wait for its connection lights to stabilize. Then reconnect the router and wait for Wi-Fi. A power-cycle does not erase network settings; a factory reset can. Hulu’s guidance covers improving your internet connection and playback troubleshooting.
- Compare devices or networks. Try Hulu on another device using the same Wi-Fi. If possible, test the affected device on another Wi-Fi network or a phone hotspot. This helps show whether the problem follows the device or the connection.

Update the app and device software
Check for a Hulu app update and an operating-system or firmware update for the TV, streaming player, console, phone, tablet, or computer. If you watch on Hulu.com, update your browser. Compatibility varies by model, software, and region; check Hulu’s current supported-device list rather than assuming every smart TV or streaming device is supported.

Clear cache or app data
If your device offers the option, clear the Hulu app cache first. Cache removal usually deletes temporary files. If the problem remains, clearing app data or storage may help, but it can sign you out and remove local settings or downloads. Menu labels and options differ across platforms, so use instructions for your specific device. Hulu lists a clear-cache-and-data troubleshooting path, but there is no single procedure for every device.
Reinstall Hulu
- Uninstall or remove Hulu from the affected device.
- Restart the device if its platform recommends it.
- Install Hulu again from the device’s official app store or app hub.
- Sign in and test several titles.
Reinstallation can help if local app files are damaged, but it will not fix an outage, unsupported device, account restriction, or network-routing problem. It may remove downloads or local preferences; it does not cancel your subscription. Follow Hulu’s app reinstall guidance.

Check TV, streaming-player, and console details
- Smart TVs: Use the TV’s app-management controls to close, update, clear data, or reinstall Hulu. Check for TV firmware updates through the manufacturer. If a separate streaming player works on the same TV, the built-in TV app may be the relevant difference.
- Roku: Restart the Roku and check for Hulu/channel updates. Removing and reinstalling Hulu may erase local app state or require you to sign in again; menu labels vary by Roku OS version.
- Amazon Fire TV: Use Fire TV’s app settings to force-stop Hulu, clear cache, and, if needed, clear data. Check for system updates before reinstalling.
- Apple TV: Close and reopen Hulu where supported, restart Apple TV, check for tvOS and Hulu updates, and reinstall if the failure continues.
- Game consoles: Fully quit Hulu rather than leaving it suspended. Restart the console and check for app and system updates.
Test an HDMI setup only if the failure follows it
If Hulu fails only when a streaming device is connected through an external display chain, test the device directly on the TV, reseat or replace the HDMI cable, or temporarily bypass an AV receiver or HDMI switch. You can also temporarily disable HDR or unusual display settings as a diagnostic test. These are possibilities, not confirmed P-DEV313 causes; user reports about particular devices and displays are anecdotal, including Hulu support discussions and a NVIDIA Shield discussion.
If Hulu fails in a computer browser
Clear Hulu’s cached data
Clear cached files and site data for Hulu, then close and reopen the browser. You may need to sign in again. Prefer clearing Hulu’s data rather than deleting all browser data, which can sign you out of unrelated sites. Hulu’s browser-cache instructions explain its recommended path.

Check extensions, JavaScript, and cookies
Temporarily disable ad blockers, privacy tools, or script-blocking extensions for Hulu and retry playback. You can also test in a different supported browser. Confirm that JavaScript and cookies are enabled; Hulu.com may not work correctly when browser settings or extensions block them. If the network may be involved
If Hulu works on a different network, temporarily disable a VPN, proxy, custom DNS filter, ad-blocking network service, or parental-control filter on the failing connection. Move closer to the router or use Ethernet where available, and pause large downloads, backups, or game updates while testing. A high download speed alone does not rule out connection instability, packet loss, filtering, or routing problems. Hulu provides a connection test and connection troubleshooting.

If only live TV channels are affected, keep Hulu + Live TV’s location and home-network requirements in mind; live TV has requirements beyond ordinary app maintenance. Hulu’s supported-device and Live TV information is the place to check them.

Check Hulu’s Help Center and its official support channel on X for an announcement. Hulu playback failing on multiple devices and networks makes a local Wi-Fi or single-device fault less likely; repeatedly reinstalling apps is unlikely to help during a service-side problem. If no announcement appears and the failure continues, use the Help Center’s current “Get in Touch” option. Contact methods and availability can change.

Give support the error code, device model and operating-system version, Hulu app or browser version if available, affected title or channel, approximate start time, and whether other titles, devices, or networks work. Mention VPNs, ad blocking, DNS filtering, or external HDMI equipment if relevant. Hulu’s sign-in and sign-out guidance may help if support identifies a session issue, but changing your password is not an established universal fix for P-DEV313.
