Was the Oscars clapping clip real?
Messi’s famous reaction shot during the broadcast was partly staged. Associated Press photographer Chris Pizzello said cameras filmed Messi before the show, while a crew member used a human hand and fake paws to create the clapping image. The broadcast moment therefore should not be read as an unassisted recording of Messi clapping during the live ceremony.
What did Jimmy Kimmel say about Messi?
Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel joked: “Even though he’s a dog, he may have given the performance of a year in ‘Anatomy of a Fall.’”

Why the video matters
The luncheon appearance captures the genuine awards-season visibility Messi received as part of Anatomy of a Fall’s campaign. It is distinct from the later, carefully produced clapping cutaway: one documents Messi attending an industry event, while the other was assembled with pre-filmed footage and practical assistance for the telecast.
