In the Spotify mobile app, open the song or other content, tap the three-dot menu, choose Share, then select Instagram Stories. Finish editing in Instagram and tap Your story, Close Friends, or the current publishing control. A shared track may show cover art, a Spotify link, Canvas animation, and—where the feature is available—a short audio preview.
Share a Spotify song to an Instagram Story
- Open Spotify on your iPhone or Android phone.
- Open the song, album, playlist, podcast, audiobook, artist profile, or other item you want to share.
- Tap the item’s three-dot menu. iPhone commonly uses a horizontal ellipsis; Android may show vertical dots.
- Tap Share.
- Choose Instagram Stories.
- Wait for Instagram’s Story editor to open. Add text, stickers, GIFs, drawings, or other elements.
- Publish using the audience control you want, such as Your story or Close Friends.
This is Spotify’s documented mobile flow: find the content, open the three-dot menu, choose Share, select Instagram Stories, and finish in Instagram. Instagram’s editor and publishing labels can vary by app version, device, account, and region.
What viewers see and hear
The generated Story normally acts as a discovery card rather than a full song upload. It can include the title and artist or content name, cover artwork or a Spotify visual card, and a link or Open on Spotify action.
Audio preview availability
Spotify’s newer editorial guidance says a track shared to Instagram Stories can play a short preview inside the Story: Spotify’s 2025 announcement. This is not universal. Country, account, app version, content type, licensing, and rollout status can affect whether it appears. Older Spotify support guidance described Instagram Stories as having no audio, so check the result itself: an audio control or preview in Instagram is the practical confirmation. Canvas visuals
Canvas is a short looping visual attached to an eligible Spotify track. When that track is shared, Canvas may replace the static album artwork automatically. Spotify’s Canvas documentation says the direct sharing flow may not offer a choice between Canvas and the cover image: Spotify Community and Spotify for Artists. The Story still links viewers back to Spotify; it does not provide an unrestricted copy of the recording.
Share albums, playlists, podcasts, audiobooks, and artist pages
The same three-dot menu generally provides the Share route for more than individual songs. Spotify’s current sharing material includes tracks, albums, playlists, podcasts, audiobooks, and other content, while its general sharing tools cover songs and artist profiles: Spotify Newsroom and Spotify support.

The visual card, link destination, Canvas behavior, and audio-preview eligibility can differ by content type. A playlist or profile, for example, is a link to that destination rather than a promise that every item in it will play in the Story.

Spotify sharing and Instagram’s Music sticker are separate workflows.

Use Instagram’s Music sticker when you need to choose the section of a song, show lyrics, or control how music sits over a personal video. Spotify availability does not guarantee that the same recording is in Instagram’s catalog: rights, territory, account type, and catalog differences apply. Business accounts and some regions may have reduced music access.

- Open the song’s lyrics view.
- Tap the Share control.
- Select the lyrics section you want to show.
- Choose Instagram Stories.
- Edit and publish in Instagram.
This is a lyrics-sharing route, not the same as sharing the track card. Availability can be limited by song, territory, account, or rollout. Spotify for Artists describes the format at all the ways to share songs on social platforms.

- Choose Share, then Copy Link.
- On your phone, open Instagram and start a Story.
- Add a photo, video, or text background.
- Open the sticker tray, choose Link, and paste the Spotify URL.
- Publish the Story.
This fallback is also useful when you want a branded background or a clear call to action such as “Listen here.” It creates a clickable Spotify link but does not necessarily create Spotify’s integrated audio preview.
Fix missing Instagram Stories, sound, or artwork

Spotify Codes as another visual option
For a custom Story, you can also use a Spotify Code that sends viewers to a song, album, or artist profile. Spotify lists Codes among its sharing tools: Spotify support. Scanning is less immediate than tapping a Link sticker, so include a clear instruction and a readable code in the design.
