Start with an official broadcaster
- Open ABC News and search for the September 10, 2024 presidential debate.
- Check whether the result is the complete debate rather than a preview, highlights reel or reaction program.
- Use the video description, date and broadcaster branding to confirm that it shows the Harris–Trump debate.
Video libraries change, and a URL that carried a live stream in 2024 may no longer work in 2026. Do not assume that an old YouTube livestream remains online. For the original event, Gizmodo’s viewing guide reported ABC News, C-SPAN, NBC News and Telemundo YouTube livestream options. A free stream might still have required an account, included advertising or been limited to the live broadcast window; “free” did not guarantee identical access in every region.

Watching without cable

For a single debate, paying for a full live-TV subscription was usually unnecessary when an official free stream was available. A paid service made more sense for someone who also wanted local channels, cable-news coverage, DVR features or an ongoing cable replacement.
International viewing
U.S. streams may be unavailable outside the United States. In the United Kingdom, coverage was reported through BBC News, BBC One, the BBC website and BBC iPlayer. That is a country-specific example, not a universal international option. Check the public broadcaster or news network licensed for your country, and expect geographic restrictions on both live and archived video.

Troubleshooting an official stream
- YouTube does not show the feed: Search the verified network channel directly or open the broadcaster’s website instead of relying on a third-party link.
- The video is unavailable in your region: Try the local broadcaster or your country’s public-service network.
- Your live-TV service lacks ABC: Use an antenna or an official free stream; a national channel list does not guarantee local-station access.
- Buffering: Lower video quality, close other high-bandwidth apps and switch to another official simulcast.
- Smart-TV app failure: Open the broadcaster in a browser on a phone, tablet or computer, then cast if supported.
- A paywall appears: Confirm whether you opened a live-TV product rather than a free news stream or an on-demand plan.
- A suspicious stream asks for payment: Leave it and verify the broadcaster’s account before entering credentials or card details.
