Dr Disrespect was banned from Twitch in 2020. In a June 2024 statement, Guy Beahm said the ban followed Twitch Whisper messages he exchanged with a minor in 2017. He described the conversations as casual and mutual but acknowledged that they sometimes became inappropriate, while denying criminal conduct, plans to meet, or illegal intent.
That explanation came from Beahm after former Twitch employees publicly discussed the allegations. Twitch had not publicly explained the ban when it happened, and the available public coverage did not include a contemporaneous confirmation from Twitch of the specific details.
What happened, in order
- 2017: Beahm said he exchanged Twitch Whisper messages with an individual who was a minor.
- 2020: Twitch permanently banned him without publicly stating the reason at the time.
- June 2024: Former Twitch employees discussed allegations connected to the ban. Beahm then published his own account of the messages and the dispute.
- After the disclosure: Business partners and the studio he co-founded ended their relationships with him.
What Beahm said he admitted
He acknowledged the 2017 messages
Beahm’s statement directly addressed the central allegation: “Were there twitch whisper messages with an individual minor back in 2017? The answer is yes.” Twitch Whispers are the platform’s private messages, so the admission concerned direct communications rather than a public stream or chat.
He said the conversations crossed a line
Beahm characterized the exchanges as “casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more.” That wording is his description of the conduct, not a publicly issued finding by Twitch or a court.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. The careful answer to “why was Dr Disrespect banned?”
The best-supported public answer is that Twitch banned Beahm in 2020 over private 2017 messages with a minor, based on the explanation he supplied in June 2024 and allegations discussed by former employees. Beahm acknowledged the messages and said some exchanges were inappropriate, but denied criminal behavior and real-world intent. Because Twitch has not publicly confirmed the specific rationale in the material available here, the explanation should be reported as Beahm’s account rather than as an independently adjudicated finding.
