BandLab and Moises overlap on AI stem separation, but they are not interchangeable. BandLab is primarily a browser and mobile music studio for recording, arranging, mixing, collaboration and release. Moises is primarily a musician’s practice, backing-track and audio-analysis toolkit, with stem separation, chord detection, tempo and key controls.

Choose BandLab when you need a place to make a complete song. Choose Moises when you need to take an existing recording apart, rehearse with it or reshape it for practice and performance. Many musicians will get the best result by using Moises first and BandLab second.

BandLab vs. Moises at a glance

Need Better fit Why
Record and arrange an original song BandLab Its cloud Studio is built for multitrack recording, MIDI, editing, mixing and export.
Practice with an existing song Moises It combines stem control with tempo, pitch, key, chords, sections, looping and metronome tools.
Create a quick backing track Moises You can lower or mute parts, change the key and speed, and export a practice or performance mix.
Move separated material into a song project BandLab BandLab Splitter can open results in Studio as audio or MIDI.
Remote creator collaboration BandLab Cloud projects and a broader creator platform make it the more natural shared production workspace.
Advanced desktop production Neither alone A full DAW such as REAPER, Ableton Live or Logic Pro offers deeper routing, plug-ins, automation and offline control.

Both services work across web and mobile environments, but functions, limits and export formats vary by device and plan.

What BandLab is best at

BandLab is an online and mobile music-creation platform. Its Studio lets you record vocals and instruments, add audio and MIDI tracks, arrange sections, mix a project and download a mixdown or individual tracks. Projects are stored in the cloud, so the service is convenient for musicians moving between a browser and a phone or collaborating remotely.

Splitter inside a broader studio

BandLab Splitter is a component of that larger workflow. You import a song through the web or mobile interface, select a split configuration, wait for analysis, then audition, solo, mute and adjust the resulting tracks. BandLab’s current help documentation says the stems can be opened in Studio as audio or MIDI. Audio-to-MIDI is an interpretation of the recording, not recovery of the original performance data, so expect editing rather than a perfect transcription.

Recording, arrangement and collaboration

BandLab is usually the easier starting point for a beginner making an original song: open Studio, record or import material, add tracks, arrange the timeline, mix and export. Its creator-platform orientation also supports sharing projects and working with other musicians, although connection requirements, permissions and the exact collaboration workflow should be checked in the current interface.

Current membership information

BandLab’s Membership FAQ, published July 31, 2026, lists Free at $0, Pro at $14.99 per month after a three-day trial, or $99 for the first annual year followed by $149 per year, and Max at $199 for the first annual year followed by $299 per year; monthly Max is marked “Coming Soon.” The FAQ lists 20 BandLab Sounds per month for Free, 100 for Pro and 500 for Max; weekly BandLab Beats allowances are two, 10 and unlimited respectively. AI Voice Cleaner and AutoMix are listed for Pro and Max, while Max adds mastering EQ, priority support and $50 per month in Boost Credits. The three-day trial automatically renews unless canceled at least 24 hours before billing. See the current FAQ before subscribing.

An older BandLab comparison article mentions a US$8.25-per-month annual-billing figure for expanded Splitter access. That conflicts with the newer Membership FAQ, so do not treat $8.25 as the current general BandLab price without checking live checkout for your country and plan.

What Moises is best at

Moises is a musician-focused AI audio toolkit and practice player. Its core workflow is to upload a recording, separate instruments, and interact with the song rather than build a complete multitrack production from scratch.

Practice and performance controls

Moises’ product materials describe automatic key and chord detection, tempo detection and changing, pitch shifting, song-section detection, looping, lyrics transcription, a Smart Metronome, instrument muting and volume control. Those functions make it particularly useful for singers learning a cover, guitarists and bassists practicing against a reduced rhythm section, drummers working with a click, teachers preparing exercises, and bands making rehearsal or performance tracks.

Cross-device access

Moises offers web, desktop, iPhone, iPad and Android apps. Its platform documentation notes that features are not identical everywhere. Web and desktop provide export options, including WAV for eligible paid users, while mobile export documentation lists MP3 and M4A. Firefox can limit audio speed changing, AI key detection and key changing; Chrome or Opera is a practical alternative when those tools fail.

Producer-oriented extensions

Moises is expanding beyond practice into AI Studio, voice and mastering features, and integrations. Its current integration documentation identifies Fender Studio Pro as the available deeper DAW integration and says more partners are coming. Do not assume universal integration with Ableton, Logic or FL Studio. The service is still better understood as a companion to a DAW than as a replacement for one.

Stem separation: what is actually different?

BandLab and Moises both separate a stereo mix into approximate instrument tracks, but their surrounding workflows differ.

Question BandLab Moises
Typical use Separate, then continue directly in BandLab Studio. Separate, listen, practice, alter and export.
Documented instrument examples Split configurations; BandLab’s comparison material describes backing vocals, drum-part separation and up to seven stems, but those claims are promotional and may not reflect current limits. Vocal, drums, bass, guitar, piano and other instruments, with configurations varying by plan.
Quality verdict No neutral, current controlled test establishes a universal winner. Results depend on the source, model, mode and export quality.

More stems do not automatically mean better stems. A five-stem result with less bleed can be more useful than seven heavily damaged tracks. Vocals with reverb or doubling, distorted guitars, cymbal-heavy mixes, stereo widening and overlapping guitar, piano and vocal frequencies are difficult for any separator. Low-bitrate MP3s, clipped masters and live recordings usually produce worse results. BandLab specifically recommends high-quality source audio in its Splitter guidance.

Logitech Creators Blue Yeti USB Microphone for PC, Mac, Gaming, Recording, Streaming, Podcasting, Studio and Computer Condenser Mic with Blue VO!CE effects, 4 Pickup Patterns, Plug and Play - Blackout
  • Custom three-capsule array: This professional USB mic produces clear, powerful, broadcast-quality sound for YouTube videos, Twitch game streaming, podcasting, Zoom meetings, music recording and more
  • Blue VO!CE software: Elevate your streamings and recordings with clear broadcast vocal sound and entertain your audience with enhanced effects, advanced modulation and HD audio samples
  • Four pickup patterns: Flexible cardioid, omni, bidirectional, and stereo pickup patterns allow you to record in ways that would normally require multiple mics, for vocals, instruments and podcasts
  • Onboard audio controls: Headphone volume, pattern selection, instant mute, and mic gain put you in charge of every level of the audio recording and streaming process
  • Positionable design: Pivot the mic in relation to the sound source to optimize your sound quality thanks to the adjustable desktop stand and track your voice in real time with no-latency monitoring

Common artifacts include vocal bleed, watery or phasey high frequencies, smeared cymbals, reverb tails spread across tracks and an “other” stem containing several inseparable instruments. Treat a separated stem as a useful approximation, not the original multitrack recording.

Export formats and workflow details

BandLab

  1. Open the BandLab Splitter page and import an audio file by dragging it in or using the file picker.
  2. Select a split configuration and wait for analysis.
  3. Audition tracks; adjust volume, solo or mute parts.
  4. Open the results in Studio as audio or MIDI.
  5. Use the project download control to export a mixdown or available individual tracks, as described in BandLab’s download guide.

BandLab’s supported formats are listed in its file-format documentation.

Moises

On mobile, open the song, choose Song Settings, tap Export, then select Save to device or Share. Choose Separated Tracks or Audio Mix, followed by MP3 or M4A. An individual track can be exported from the three-dot menu beside it.

On web or desktop, choose Export, select MP3, M4A or WAV if your plan permits it, then choose individual stems or the complete mix. Export All creates a ZIP of selected stems. The complete procedure and plan restrictions are in Moises’ export guide.

Moises distinguishes raw separated tracks from an audio mix. If you changed volume, muted a part, altered tempo or pitch, export the mix when you need those adjustments preserved; exporting separated tracks may give you the unprocessed files instead.

Which should you choose?

Beginner making original songs

Choose BandLab. Its path from recording to arrangement, mixing and export is more coherent, and separated material can move into the same Studio project.

Singer learning covers

Choose Moises for key changes, slower playback, vocal reduction, looping, lyrics and chord information.

Guitarist, bassist or drummer practicing

Choose Moises when reducing or muting an instrument, generating a synchronized metronome and repeating difficult sections are central to the session.

Beatmaker or remixer

Test both on the same source. Moises may offer the separation configuration you need; BandLab is attractive if you want to arrange the result immediately in Studio. Listen for artifacts before committing to a subscription.

Remote band

Use BandLab for shared song creation and Moises for rehearsal tracks, setlists and preparation. Moises’ group features organize access and performance material; they are not the same as co-editing a multitrack DAW session.

Producer with a desktop DAW

Moises can be a useful analysis and separation companion, particularly where its documented integration applies. BandLab can be a quick collaborative sketchpad, but neither replaces a mature desktop environment for complex routing, automation and plug-in work.

Privacy- or connectivity-conscious user

Neither service should be assumed to be offline-first. Important processing is cloud-connected, and Moises explicitly describes cloud processing. Download valuable stems and mixes, keep local backups, and review current privacy and retention terms before uploading unreleased commercial material.

Using BandLab and Moises together

  1. Upload the existing song to Moises when you need chord, key, tempo, section or practice analysis.
  2. Separate the parts and create either raw stems or an adjusted audio mix, depending on your next step.
  3. Export the appropriate files; use web or desktop when you need WAV or a ZIP of stems.
  4. Import the files into BandLab Studio.
  5. Record new vocals or instruments, arrange MIDI and audio, mix and collaborate in the BandLab project.
  6. Download a final mixdown or individual tracks and keep a local backup.

This division of labor avoids forcing a practice player to act like a DAW or a DAW to provide every automatic musician-analysis feature.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Rights, privacy and AI cautions

Moises says it does not train on users’ data, trains models on licensed materials and makes voice models with artists who are paid for their work. Those are company statements, not an independent audit; read the current terms and privacy policy before uploading sensitive material.

Stem separation does not grant permission to commercially release the underlying recording. A separated vocal or instrumental remains derived from the original copyrighted work. Uploading music, publishing karaoke tracks, sampling, remixing or using voice conversion may require permission under the platform’s terms and your local law. AI-generated or converted voices also raise consent, attribution and commercial-use questions.

When an alternative is the better answer

  • REAPER suits advanced offline production with extensive routing and plug-in support.
  • Ableton Live is stronger for electronic production, clip launching, sound design and performance.
  • Logic Pro offers a deep Apple-only recording, instrument, mixing and mastering environment.
  • Ultimate Vocal Remover is worth considering when dedicated or local separation matters more than collaboration and practice features.
  • RipX DAW targets note-level editing of separated audio for users willing to accept a more specialized desktop workflow.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: BandLab is the better choice for making, arranging and sharing complete songs; Moises is the better choice for practicing, analyzing and reshaping existing recordings. If your workflow includes both jobs, separate or study the song in Moises, then produce the new work in BandLab. Neither is a universal replacement for a full desktop DAW, and neither stem separator should be judged without testing the same source under the same settings.
