Short answer: Roku’s own 2024 Pro Series was the best Roku-branded television reviewed that year. The Roku Plus Series QLED was the more sensible value choice. However, specific TCL and Hisense televisions often delivered better picture performance per dollar—provided you were willing to accept Google TV or another platform, or add a separate Roku player.
That distinction matters because “Roku TV” describes an operating system, not necessarily the company that built the television. TCL, Hisense, Onn, Westinghouse, Pioneer, Philips and other licensees have sold Roku-powered sets, and quality varies substantially by model. Roku’s model finder lists the current licensed-brand range at Roku’s TV Finder.
What counts as a Roku TV?
A Roku TV uses Roku’s smart-TV software and interface. It may be manufactured by Roku itself or by a licensed partner. Roku’s first-party 2024 lines were the Select, Plus and Pro Series; TCL and Hisense also sold Roku models, alongside brands such as Onn, Westinghouse, Pioneer and Philips.
The operating system and the panel are separate buying decisions. Two televisions with the same Roku menus can differ greatly in backlighting, contrast, motion, processing, gaming inputs and reliability evidence. Always verify the exact model number rather than shopping by brand name alone.

For this U.S.-focused 2024 comparison, the useful measures are independent picture testing, HDR brightness, contrast and local dimming, upscaling, gaming support, price, availability and the Roku interface experience. “QLED,” “Mini-LED” and “4K” are features—not guarantees of good processing or uniformity.
Best Roku-branded television: Roku Pro Series (2024)
Best for: buyers who specifically want Roku built in but still expect strong HDR, contrast and modern console gaming.
The Pro Series combined Mini-LED backlighting, QLED color, Dolby Vision IQ and 4K/120Hz support. Independent testing found strong brightness, contrast and color performance compared with lower-tier Roku sets. RTINGS’ review also found that its image processing was weaker than TCL’s, particularly with lower-quality sources; see the RTINGS Roku Pro Series review.
- Advantages: Mini-LED local dimming, wide color, strong HDR impact, Dolby Vision IQ, 120Hz gaming and Roku’s straightforward interface.
- Limitations: image processing that is less convincing for cable, DVDs, broadcast channels and heavily compressed video; a maximum of 4K/120Hz rather than 4K/144Hz; and a higher price than several competing Mini-LED televisions.
The 2024 U.S. launch price started at $899 for 55 inches. Tom’s Guide reported larger sizes at roughly $1,199 or more, with the 65-inch model commonly discounted toward $999; its launch coverage is at Tom’s Guide. Those were launch-era prices, not a permanent MSRP.

Choose the Pro when built-in Roku is non-negotiable and you value brightness, contrast and 120Hz gaming more than the best possible upscaling. If most of your viewing is poor-quality cable or discs, a better-processing television paired with an external Roku may be the stronger solution.
Best value in Roku’s own range: Roku Plus Series QLED
Best for: streaming households that want noticeably better picture quality than an entry-level Roku TV without paying Pro money.
RTINGS found the Plus Series had local dimming, higher SDR and HDR brightness, wider color gamut and volume, faster response and better contrast than the Select Series. Its processing remained a weakness, and it was not as bright or gaming-focused as the Pro. Read the RTINGS Plus Series testing.
| Roku line | What you get | Who should buy it |
|---|---|---|
| Pro Series | Mini-LED, QLED, local dimming, Dolby Vision IQ, 4K/120Hz | Primary-room viewing, HDR and console gaming |
| Plus Series | QLED color, local dimming and better brightness than Select | Best balance for most streaming-focused buyers |
| Select Series | Basic Roku 4K television with fewer picture enhancements | Bedrooms, kitchens, guest rooms and very tight budgets |
The Select is reasonable when Roku’s interface matters more than HDR impact, black levels or gaming. For a main television, the Plus is usually worth choosing when the price gap is modest.

TCL: a strong alternative, but compare the exact model
TCL Roku TVs were often attractively priced, yet TCL’s strongest 2024 televisions increasingly used Google TV. That means “best TCL TV” and “best TCL Roku TV” are not interchangeable descriptions.
In RTINGS’ comparison of the Roku Pro with the TCL Q7/Q750G, TCL delivered better image processing and a PC-gaming advantage through 4K/144Hz support. The Roku Pro had advantages in some brightness and color measurements. In a Plus-versus-TCL Q650G comparison, the sets were closer: Roku was stronger in contrast, color and response, while TCL offered more gaming flexibility. See the model-specific RTINGS comparison.
Buy a TCL Roku model when its exact price is substantially below a comparable Roku-branded set and its refresh rate, HDMI features and backlight meet your needs. Do not assume every TCL Roku television performs like a Q7 or like TCL’s newer Google TV models.
Hisense: often better performance per dollar, usually on another platform
Hisense’s U7N was repeatedly positioned as a cheaper or stronger-performing alternative to the Roku Pro, with competitive Mini-LED brightness and contrast. Tom’s Guide compares them in this Roku Pro-versus-U7N review.
Rank #4
- Bright, clear picture: Bring entertainment to life on our 40" flat screen TV with bright 1080p Full HD—perfect for bedrooms, kitchens, and beyond. Roku Smart Picture cleans up incoming TV signals, optimizes them, and chooses the right picture mode.
- Seamless streaming: With fast Wi-Fi and apps that launch in a snap, Roku Select Series TVs get you to your entertainment quickly. You get excellent picture quality, clear sound, automatic updates, and more. It’s simple to use. Hard to outgrow.

The important qualification is platform: the U7N was not necessarily a Roku TV in the United States. Hisense’s best-reviewed U-series models commonly use another smart-TV system. Check the model’s platform in the Hisense USA television lineup. If you want that panel performance and Roku’s interface, add a Roku player rather than assuming a Hisense Roku model will match the U7N or U8-series.
Onn, Westinghouse, Pioneer, Philips and other licensed brands
Licensed Roku televisions can be excellent sale purchases for casual streaming, secondary rooms or unusually large or small size requirements. They belong in a budget and availability tier, not a blanket “best brand” ranking.
- Consider one when: price dominates, the set is for a bedroom or guest room, or a sale undercuts better-known models substantially.
- Be cautious when: HDR, motion, gaming latency, uniformity, long-term support or home-theater performance is important.
- Verify before buying: the full model number, refresh rate, HDMI 2.1 and VRR support, local dimming, warranty and return policy.
Roku’s TV Finder shows the changing mix of manufacturers and model families. Similar names can conceal different panels and specifications.

A separate Roku streaming player lets you choose a television for its panel, processing and gaming features rather than restricting the search to Roku-integrated models. It adds a device, an HDMI connection and extra cost, but it can make a TCL, Hisense, Sony or LG television with better upscaling a practical Roku setup. This approach is especially sensible for homes with cable boxes, antennas, DVDs or older streaming files, because independent testing identified processing as a recurring weakness of the 2024 Roku Pro and Plus models. It is less compelling if simplicity and one integrated remote matter more than squeezing out the best panel performance.
Recommendations by buyer
| Buyer priority | Best direction | Reason and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Best Roku-branded picture | Roku Pro Series 2024 | Strongest Roku-owned combination of Mini-LED, color, contrast and 120Hz gaming; processing trails some rivals. |
| Best Roku value | Roku Plus Series QLED | Local dimming, brighter HDR and wider color than Select at a lower tier than Pro. |
| Best PC gaming flexibility | Comparable TCL model with 4K/144Hz | Several TCL competitors offer 144Hz; confirm that the model is Roku TV if built-in Roku is required. |
| Best value performance overall | Hisense U7N-class television plus Roku player | Often stronger value than Pro, but the U7N’s U.S. platform is not necessarily Roku. |
| Bright room | Pro or another independently measured high-brightness set | Favor measured brightness and reflection handling; branding alone is not proof. |
| Cable, antenna or DVDs | Better-processing television plus Roku player | Upscaling and cleanup matter more than Roku integration. |
| Bedroom or guest room | Roku Select or discounted licensed model | Appropriate when advanced HDR and gaming are unimportant. |
| Strictest budget | Select or a sale-priced TCL/Hisense Roku model | Check the exact panel and accept weaker HDR and processing. |
What prices mean now
For historical context, use the 2024 launch prices above. A separate Roku Finder snapshot viewed August 18, 2026 showed dynamic examples: 65-inch Pro around $898; 55-inch Pro around $899.99 with a displayed sale near $698; 65-inch Plus around $649.99 with a displayed sale near $478; 65-inch Select around $449.99 with a displayed sale near $365.99; 65-inch TCL Roku 4K around $849.99; and 75-inch Hisense Roku 4K around $698 with a displayed sale near $458. These figures are changeable listings, not guaranteed prices; recheck Roku’s finder before purchasing.
How to shop without being misled
- Decide whether “Roku” means built-in software or simply access to Roku; this determines whether an external player is acceptable.
- Identify the exact model number and year.
- Check local dimming, measured HDR brightness, contrast, reflection handling and processing—not just 4K, QLED or Mini-LED labels.
- For consoles, confirm HDMI 2.1, VRR, ALLM and 4K/120Hz; for PC gaming, check specifically for 4K/144Hz.
- Match the television to your sources: 4K HDR streaming, cable, antenna, discs and compressed video expose different strengths.
- Compare the dated price, return policy and warranty for the exact listing.
Verdict
According to 2024 independent reviews, Roku made the best Roku-branded television with the Pro Series, while the Plus Series was the smarter value inside Roku’s lineup. TCL and Hisense often produced better performance per dollar, but their strongest alternatives were not always Roku TVs. The right choice therefore depends less on the logo than on the exact model, source quality, gaming requirements and whether you are willing to add a Roku player.
