Spotify’s Taste Profile beta lets eligible listeners tell Spotify how its recommendation model should change—for example, asking for more upbeat workout music or less children’s audio. Spotify announced the feature on March 13, 2026, and says the documented immediate effect is on Home recommendations. It is not a universal launch: the current U.S. help page limits the beta to selected Premium users on mobile who are 18 or older.
What Spotify’s Taste Profile actually is
Taste Profile is Spotify’s behind-the-scenes interpretation of your listening interests and habits, not a simple list of favorite artists or genres. Spotify says searches, plays, skips and saves can all provide signals for personalization across the service, including Home and personalized playlists. See Spotify’s explanation of recommendations.
The new control gives you visibility into that interpretation and a way to describe how it should be adjusted. It is closer to steering a recommendation model than manually deleting every inferred preference.
Who can use the beta?
Spotify’s current U.S. support documentation says Taste Profile is available to users who meet all of these conditions:

The feature was first announced as a Premium beta for listeners in New Zealand, with rollout planned in the weeks after March 13, 2026. Spotify has not published a complete global schedule, so availability can still depend on country, account and rollout status. Check the current U.S. support page for Spotify’s documented requirements rather than assuming every Premium account has it.
How to edit your Taste Profile
- Open Spotify’s mobile app.
- Tap your profile picture at the top, or the applicable three-dot menu.
- Choose Taste Profile.
- Under Tell us more, describe the change you want.
- Tap Send message.
Spotify says the Taste Profile and Home recommendations should update within a few minutes. The company does not publish a fixed command language, so treat prompts as guidance rather than guaranteed filters.
Prompts you can try
- “Show me more upbeat electronic music for workouts.”
- “Dial back children’s music and sleep sounds.”
- “Give me more ’90s alternative rock.”
- “I’m currently interested in jazz and want more of it on Home.”
- “Show fewer true-crime podcasts.”
Specific context helps, but a phrase such as “more relaxing music” can be interpreted through tempo, genre, artists, listening situation or other signals. Spotify does not promise a particular artist, playlist or genre for every request.

What the beta changes—and what it does not

Spotify describes the broader Taste Profile as informing experiences such as Discover Weekly, Home, Wrapped and Blend. However, the current beta instructions specifically promise an update to Home. It is therefore safest to treat other surfaces separately until Spotify documents their behavior.

Why this matters for real listening habits
Recommendation systems learn from behavior, even when that behavior is not a statement of long-term taste. A shared household account, a child using a parent’s profile, sleep or white-noise audio, a workout playlist, a party, a research project, or a temporary podcast and audiobook habit can all push the model in an unwanted direction. Taste Profile editing addresses the transparency problem as well as the recommendation problem: you can give Spotify an explanation instead of relying only on likes, skips and listening history to correct the misunderstanding.

Taste Profile editing versus excluding a playlist or track
Spotify already offers a narrower control called Exclude from your Taste Profile. Use the beta for broad steering; use exclusion when one playlist or track is the source of the unwanted signal.
To exclude a playlist or track
- Open the playlist or track.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
- Choose Exclude from your Taste Profile or Exclude track from your Taste Profile.
- To reverse the decision, choose the corresponding Include option.
Spotify says excluded playlists and tracks have less influence from past and future streams on taste summaries and recommendations. The change can take effect within 48 hours, and Discover Weekly may not reflect it until the following week. Details are in Spotify’s exclusion instructions.
Exclusion is not a blanket ban on every copy of a song: playing that song from somewhere else, such as Liked Songs, can still count toward your Taste Profile. Spotify also says excluded streams are left out of Wrapped stories and data points such as top artists and top songs, while total listening time is still counted. Those explicit Wrapped rules apply to exclusions; Spotify has not said that every natural-language Taste Profile edit changes every Wrapped metric.

For a household that regularly shares one account, separate accounts or profiles remain the cleaner long-term fix. Editing can correct accumulated signals, but it does not separate multiple people’s ongoing listening data.
If Taste Profile is missing
- Confirm that the account is Premium.
- Use the mobile app rather than desktop or web.
- Check that the account holder is 18 or older where that requirement applies.
- Update Spotify to the latest version available for your device.
- Check whether the beta has reached your country and account.
- Look under your profile picture or the applicable three-dot menu for Taste Profile.
- Contact Spotify support if you meet the published criteria but the menu does not appear.
Spotify has not published a minimum app version or a complete country-by-country availability list. A missing menu can therefore mean that your account has not been included yet, not that the app is malfunctioning.
Should you upgrade to Premium for it?
Premium is the documented requirement in Spotify’s U.S. Taste Profile help article, but upgrading solely for this beta is only sensible after checking whether the feature appears for your country, age and account. If your problem is one troublesome playlist or track, try the existing exclusion control first. Do not subscribe expecting permanent rules or guaranteed changes to every Spotify recommendation surface. Spotify’s official Premium page is spotify.com/us/premium.

Taste Profile gives Spotify users more influence over how their listening is interpreted, especially when Home recommendations have been polluted by shared, temporary or irrelevant activity. It is a beta steering tool—not a deterministic filter, a listening-history eraser or a promise that every recommendation will improve. Use broad natural-language feedback for a profile-level correction, and exclusions when a specific playlist or track is the problem.
