Yes—Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) running tvOS 26 or later can use a compatible iPhone as a wireless microphone for Apple Music Sing. The iPhone sends your voice to the Apple TV, which plays it through the TV speakers or a compatible wired receiver. You connect by scanning a QR code, not by pairing a generic Bluetooth microphone.

What you need

Requirement Supported setup
Apple TV Apple TV 4K (3rd generation)
Apple TV software tvOS 26 or later
iPhone iPhone SE (2nd generation or later), or iPhone 11 or later
iPhone software iOS 26 or later
Network Apple TV and every participating iPhone on the same Wi-Fi network
Subscription The host needs Apple Music; invited participants can join without their own subscription
Audio output TV speakers or a wired receiver; HomePod and other wireless speakers are not supported for this microphone session

Apple documents the model, software, network and speaker requirements in its Apple Music Sing guide. Sing availability also varies by song, country or region and Apple TV hardware; not every track has the same lyrics or vocal controls.

How to connect the iPhone microphone

  1. Update the Apple TV to tvOS 26 or later and the iPhone to iOS 26 or later.
  2. Put both devices on the same Wi-Fi network. Disable network settings that isolate devices from one another.
  3. Make sure Apple TV audio is routed to the TV speakers or a wired receiver rather than HomePod or another wireless speaker.
  4. Open the Music app on Apple TV and sign in with the host’s Apple Account and Apple Music subscription.
  5. Choose Sing at the top of the Music app, or open the Apple Music Sing icon from the Home Screen.
  6. Select a Sing mix or playlist, then choose Connect iPhone Mic.
  7. Use the iPhone’s Camera app to scan the QR code shown on the television.
  8. Follow the iPhone prompts to join the session, then choose Start Singing on Apple TV or press the Back/Menu button.
  9. Start the song. The iPhone now captures your voice and the Apple TV mixes it with the music.

You can also begin from an ordinary song with time-synchronized lyrics:

  1. Play the song and show the playback controls.
  2. If lyrics are hidden, select the Lyrics button.
  3. Choose Connect iPhone Mic, scan the QR code, join on the iPhone and select Start Singing.

The iPhone is acting as a microphone, not as an AirPlay source or a Continuity Camera. The feature is described in Apple’s regional Sing instructions.

Microphone and song controls

Controls on the iPhone

  • Mic: tap the Mic button to mute or unmute your voice.
  • Microphone volume: use the iPhone’s volume buttons to change how loud you sound through the TV or receiver.
  • Song Vocals: tap up to three times to cycle through the available levels of the original singer’s voice. This adjusts prominence; it does not guarantee complete vocal removal.
  • Mic Reverb: tap up to three times to cycle through preset ambience or echo levels.
  • Add Song: tap Add Song, search or browse, tap Add, then tap Done.
  • Reactions: when you are not singing, use the featured emoji or add another emoji to react to the performance.

Controls on Apple TV

  • Use the Siri Remote volume buttons for the overall song-and-microphone output.
  • Use Apple Music Sing’s vocal control to change the artist’s vocal level; this is separate from your microphone volume.
  • Open More Options for available visual effects.

Lowering the song vocals will not automatically make your voice louder. Adjust the iPhone microphone level for that.

Invite other singers

After the first iPhone joins, the QR code remains available on Apple TV. Up to 30 additional people can scan it, provided they use compatible iPhones on the same Wi-Fi network. This is a group-joining limit, not a 30-microphone mixer: only one person can use the microphone at a time. The host remains the only person who needs an Apple Music subscription.

Fix singing delay

TV and receiver processing can make your voice arrive after you sing. Apple recommends the following sequence in its TV audio-delay guidance:

  1. Enable Game Mode or Game Optimizer in the television’s picture or audio settings.
  2. If the delay remains, turn off Dolby Atmos on the TV.
  3. Try another audio format, such as PCM, Stereo, Pass-through or Bitstream.
  4. Disable extra surround, dialogue and other audio-processing features.
  5. Set audio/video synchronization to AV Sync Bypass if your TV offers it.
  6. With a soundbar or AV receiver, connect Apple TV directly to that device instead of routing audio through the television.
  7. Power-cycle the TV after changing settings.

Sing automatically turns Dolby Atmos off when the feature is activated, but the television may still apply its own processing. Lower-latency settings can reduce surround effects, so choose the balance that feels best for singing.

Why “Connect iPhone Mic” is missing

  • Confirm the Apple TV is an Apple TV 4K (3rd generation), not merely any Apple TV that can run tvOS 26.
  • Check that Apple TV has tvOS 26 or later and the phone has iOS 26 or later.
  • Verify the iPhone is an iPhone SE (2nd generation or later) or iPhone 11 or later.
  • Put both devices on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Try a song with time-synchronized lyrics and Apple Music Sing support.
  • Update the Music app and both operating systems.
  • Use TV speakers or a wired receiver; wireless-speaker output is unsupported for this microphone mode.

Apple says Sing content and availability can differ by country, region, song and hardware. If one track has no Sing controls, try another from the Apple Music Sing catalog. See Apple’s availability information at support.apple.com/en-ie/105015.

QR code scans but the phone will not connect

  1. Confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and turn off a VPN or local-network isolation feature that blocks discovery.
  2. Lock and unlock the iPhone, then close and reopen Camera.
  3. Exit and reopen the Music app on Apple TV.
  4. Restart both devices.
  5. Check the iPhone model and iOS version again.
  6. Start a new Connect iPhone Mic flow and scan the newly displayed QR code.

Apple documents the QR-code and same-network requirements but does not publish a complete error-code matrix, so individual connection symptoms do not have an official one-to-one diagnosis.

If you cannot hear your voice

  • Make sure the iPhone Mic button is not muted and its volume is turned up.
  • Confirm the Apple TV session was started with Start Singing and that the song is playing.
  • Check that the TV or wired receiver is the active output.
  • Remove HomePod or another wireless speaker from the output path.

iPhone microphone versus Continuity Camera

Mode iPhone role Result
Sing with iPhone Mic Captures voice Your voice plays through the TV or wired receiver
Sing with Camera Captures video and audio You appear onscreen with lyrics and effects

The same iPhone cannot be the Continuity Camera and the Sing microphone simultaneously. Camera mode uses a separate connection flow documented at Apple’s Continuity Camera guide. Choose microphone mode when amplified singing matters; choose camera mode when seeing the performer onscreen matters.

How to disconnect

  1. On Apple TV, show the playback controls.
  2. Select Connect iPhone Mic.
  3. Choose Disconnect Mic.

After disconnecting, the iPhone no longer sends microphone audio to Apple TV. To leave as a participant, follow the exit control shown on the iPhone session screen.

Is this better than a dedicated karaoke microphone?

iPhone microphone Dedicated microphone and mixer
No extra microphone required if you already own compatible Apple devices Requires separate hardware and setup
Quick QR-code connection, reverb and vocal-level presets More control over gain, echo, feedback and monitoring
Convenient for casual home karaoke and parties Better suited to simultaneous singers or performance use
Depends on same Wi-Fi, supported hardware and TV latency Can avoid Apple’s device and Sing compatibility limits

For casual singing, the iPhone route is convenient and avoids buying another microphone. It is a poor fit for several people singing simultaneously, zero-latency monitoring, advanced mixing or a HomePod-centered setup. A dedicated karaoke system or another karaoke app may suit those needs, but neither unlocks Apple Music Sing on unsupported Apple TV hardware.
