Best alternatives by viewing need
Current anime: Crunchyroll
Crunchyroll is the closest legitimate replacement for WatchCartoonOnline’s anime use case. It focuses on current seasons, simulcasts, subtitles and English dubs. Its U.S. Premium page lists Fan at $9.99 per month, Mega Fan at $13.99 and Ultimate Fan at $17.99, with a seven-day trial for eligible new subscribers. Benefits and simultaneous-streaming limits differ by tier; the trial automatically renews unless canceled. These prices apply to U.S. billing dates after March 4, 2026, and can differ elsewhere. See the official plan page and the 2026 pricing announcement.
Niche anime: HIDIVE
HIDIVE is a useful companion when a title is absent from Crunchyroll, particularly for older, less mainstream, Sentai Filmworks and selected dubbed or uncensored releases. Catalog, language tracks and device support vary by territory, so confirm the series and plan at HIDIVE before paying.
Anime alongside general entertainment: Netflix
Netflix combines anime originals, animated films, family programming and adult animation with a broad live-action catalog. It has no standard permanent free tier. Licensing is highly country-specific and titles rotate, so treat a search result as a lead rather than a worldwide guarantee.

Cartoon Network and Adult Swim: Max and Hulu
Max is the strongest starting point for Warner Bros., Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and DC animation. Hulu is a strong U.S. cross-check for Cartoon Network programming, adult animation and selected anime. Hulu’s Cartoon Network page displayed plans beginning at $11.99 per month when checked, but plan pricing, bundles and title rights change. Hulu is primarily a U.S. service, not a worldwide substitute.
Family animation: Disney+ and PBS Kids
Disney+ suits Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars animation and households that need profile and parental-control tools. PBS Kids is the better free, age-focused choice for preschool and elementary viewers. Neither is intended as a comprehensive anime or adult-animation service.
Nickelodeon: Paramount+
Paramount+ is the natural home for Nickelodeon, preschool and family programming, although its animation catalog is narrower than a dedicated anime service or a broad general streamer.
Obscure or transactional titles: Prime Video
Prime Video is valuable when a show is available to rent, buy or access through an add-on channel, even if it is not included with Prime. Always identify the result as included with membership, free with ads, a rental, a purchase or a paid channel. A Prime Video search result alone does not establish that viewing is included.

Free legal options
Tubi
Tubi is the best free on-demand starting point for older cartoons, animated films and selected anime. It is ad-supported, titles rotate and availability differs by country. It is safer and more predictable than an unofficial mirror, but it will not reproduce a historical aggregator’s entire archive.
Pluto TV
Pluto TV offers free live channels and on-demand programs, including cartoon and anime-oriented programming in supported markets. It works well for channel surfing and background viewing; it is less convenient when you need a particular season immediately.
The Roku Channel and Plex
The Roku Channel supplies rotating free, ad-supported movies and shows, with device and regional differences. Plex combines a free ad-supported catalog with tools for organizing media you legally own. Plex is not a direct replacement for a current anime library, and its personal-media features do not authorize access to copyrighted files you do not own.
Official YouTube uploads
YouTube can provide free episodes, clips and playlists when a network, studio or rights holder uploads them. Search for the show plus its network, open the official channel, check its rights-holder description or verification, and avoid downloads, extensions and “player update” prompts. YouTube’s results also contain unauthorized re-uploads, so the platform itself is not a blanket guarantee.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
Kanopy and Hoopla
Kanopy and Hoopla may provide animated films and television at no direct cost through a participating public library or university. Your institution controls the catalog, and monthly borrowing or viewing limits may apply. They are not universally available consumer subscriptions.
Can one service replace WatchCartoonOnline?
Usually not. Legitimate rights are fragmented: one provider may have the latest anime, another an older dub, and a third a particular Cartoon Network season. A practical combination is:
- Free cartoons: Tubi, Pluto TV and official YouTube channels.
- Current anime: Crunchyroll.
- Niche anime: Crunchyroll plus HIDIVE.
- Family viewing: Disney+ and PBS Kids.
- Cartoon Network or Adult Swim: Max, with Hulu as a U.S. cross-check.
- Nickelodeon: Paramount+.
- One specific show: Search JustWatch or Reelgood, set your country, then open the licensed provider.
How to choose safely and keep costs down
- Search the title on JustWatch or Reelgood with the correct country selected.
- Check whether the result is included, ad-supported, a rental, a purchase or an add-on channel.
- Confirm the exact season, episode, dub or subtitle track and age rating on the provider’s own page.
- Use a free service or library account between paid subscriptions.
- Subscribe to the service carrying the show, finish the season, then pause or cancel if the plan permits.
- For children, use a dedicated kids profile, review autoplay and advertising, and avoid sending them to an unmoderated search result.
Free legal viewing generally means advertising and a rotating catalog. Paid plans may add ad-free playback, offline downloads or multiple streams. A trial is not a free long-term plan: record the renewal date and cancel before automatic billing if you do not want to continue.
Why unofficial clones are a poor substitute
Domains using WatchCartoonOnline, KissCartoon, KimCartoon or similar branding can change ownership, disappear or redirect visitors. Current coverage warns of aggressive advertising, fake play buttons, browser-notification traps, fake software-update prompts and malware exposure. A recognizable name does not prove authorization, and an ad blocker cannot verify licensing or make a suspicious download safe. Do not install requested codecs or extensions, enter payment details on a clone, or allow browser notifications. Licensed and official services are lower-risk because the operator, terms and distribution model are identifiable, although no online service is completely risk-free.

What “legal” means here
Services such as Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Crunchyroll, Tubi and Pluto TV distribute content through licensed subscription or advertising arrangements, while official network and studio YouTube channels are legitimate for the videos they upload. “Free” does not automatically mean illegal, and “paid” does not prove that every title is licensed in every country. Legality depends on the operator, title, territory and rights arrangement. Verify the provider and your local availability rather than relying on a site’s branding.

Check Max first and Hulu in the United States. Rights and seasons vary by title and plan.
Is Tubi really free?
Yes, its supported catalog is free to watch with advertising; availability and titles change by territory.
Does Crunchyroll have Western cartoons?
Crunchyroll is primarily an anime service, so it should not be treated as a complete Cartoon Network, Disney or Nickelodeon replacement.
Can I watch cartoons without creating an account?
Some Tubi, Pluto TV, Roku Channel, Plex, PBS Kids and official YouTube content may play without a paid subscription, but account requirements vary by device, title and region.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Why is a show available in one country but not another?
Streaming rights are licensed by territory, so catalogs, dubs, subtitles and release timing can differ.
How can I verify an official YouTube upload?
Open the network or studio’s channel, check its description and verification, and avoid re-uploads that request downloads, extensions or unusual player software.
The Bottom Line
For most readers, the dependable replacement is a combination rather than one site: Crunchyroll for current anime, Max or Hulu for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, Disney+ or PBS Kids for family viewing, and Tubi or Pluto TV for free ad-supported watching. Use JustWatch or Reelgood to locate a specific title, and avoid unstable clone domains whose licensing and safety cannot be verified.
