On a Mac or Windows PC, open Netflix in a browser, go to Manage Profiles, edit the profile, choose a Netflix-provided profile icon, and save. Netflix’s documented process does not include uploading a personal photo; “profile picture,” “avatar,” and “PFP” generally refer to the built-in profile icon.
These instructions reflect Netflix’s interface and help guidance available in August 2026. Button names and page layout can vary slightly by account and rollout.
Change your Netflix profile picture on a Mac or PC
- Open Safari, Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, or another current desktop browser.
- Go to Netflix.com and sign in.
- Open the profile-selection screen, or select your profile icon in the upper-right corner of Netflix.
- Choose Manage Profiles. If you cannot find it, open https://www.netflix.com/ManageProfiles directly.
- Select the profile you want to change. Check the profile name carefully so you do not edit someone else’s icon.
- Select the pencil or Edit icon.
- Select the current profile icon, or the Profile Icon option if that label appears. Netflix may present this control differently on different accounts.
- Choose an available character or title icon from Netflix’s gallery.
- Select Save or Done.
- Return to the profile-selection screen and verify that the new icon appears.
Netflix confirms the browser-based profile-management route and the Edit control in its profile help instructions. The exact icon-selector wording is not guaranteed to be identical in every account interface.
Does the method differ on Mac and Windows?
No. The account change is made on Netflix’s website, so the underlying procedure is the same on macOS and Windows. Safari, Chrome, Edge, and Firefox can display slightly different browser controls, but Netflix’s route remains Manage Profiles → Edit → profile icon → Save.

You do not need a separate Netflix desktop application for this task.
Can you upload your own photo?
Netflix’s official profile-management instructions describe selecting and editing Netflix profile icons, not uploading an image from your computer. Netflix’s own announcements describe a library of character- and title-based artwork, such as the icons discussed in its profile-icon announcement and profile anniversary article.

Therefore, as of August 2026, a personal-photo upload is not documented as a standard Netflix feature. Browser extensions, userscripts, or methods that alter Netflix’s website are unofficial. They can stop working after a redesign, may not carry across devices, and can request broad browser permissions. Do not provide Netflix credentials to an untrusted tool or treat an unofficial workaround as Netflix support.
Why “Manage Profiles” or the icon selector may be missing
Try these checks in order:
- Open https://www.netflix.com/ManageProfiles directly rather than relying on a menu.
- Refresh the page and wait for all profile controls to load.
- Temporarily disable content blockers or extensions, or test in a private/incognito window.
- Try another current browser.
- Check whether you are currently using a Kids profile. Kids profiles have a simplified experience and may not expose the same editing controls.
- Confirm that the account type permits the action. Netflix says extra-member accounts have one profile and cannot create additional profiles.
- Sign out of Netflix and sign in again.
Profile permissions can depend on the profile type and account structure. If access remains restricted, have the account owner manage the profile. Netflix’s guidance on profile editing and limits is available at help.netflix.com/en/node/10421.

Make the new icon appear on your TV, phone, or streaming device
First check Netflix.com in the browser where you made the change. If the new icon is visible there, the account update saved and another device is probably showing stale account data.
- Switch to another Netflix profile, then switch back.
- Close and reopen the Netflix app.
- Sign out and sign in again.
- Restart the TV, streaming stick, game console, phone, or tablet.
- On the browser, clear only Netflix site data or test a private window if the old icon persists.

What changing the icon does—and does not—change
Changing an icon is an appearance edit to an existing profile, not a new profile. Netflix associates each profile with its own recommendations, My List, ratings, viewing activity, and related settings. Selecting a different icon should not reset those items.
Do not delete and recreate the profile just to obtain another icon. Netflix warns that deleting a profile removes its viewing history and game saves, as described in its profile-management help page.

Kids profiles, extra members, and other limits
Kids profiles
Kids profiles display a recognizable Kids logo and use a simplified Netflix experience. Some profile features are unavailable or restricted, so a missing icon selector may be expected. Use an adult profile or ask the account owner to manage the setting rather than trying to bypass the restriction.
Extra-member accounts
Netflix states that an extra-member account has one profile and cannot create additional profiles. Its controls may therefore differ from a standard household account.
Profile ownership and permissions
Make sure you are editing the intended profile. The main profile cannot be deleted, and access to profile or parental-control settings varies by profile and account context. If Netflix will not allow the edit, the primary account owner should try the browser steps.
