Reporting in November 2025 said Apple was reassessing the subscription after moving it into a new health-and-Services management structure. A February 8, 2026 update said the service was still under review, with no announced shutdown date, replacement product, or final decision.
The practical conclusion is straightforward: keep using Fitness+ if it works for you, but treat long-term plans and possible Health+ integration as unresolved. The reports describe an internal evaluation—not a customer-facing cancellation notice.
What “under review” actually means
Mark Gurman’s reporting, summarized by 9to5Mac and MacRumors, says Apple is evaluating Fitness+’s future. That is different from announcing that the service will close.
- Reported: Apple is reviewing Fitness+’s strategy and performance.
- Reported: Fitness+ is now part of a changed health-management structure.
- Possible: Apple could eventually fold Fitness+ into a broader Health+ offering.
- Not confirmed: a cancellation date, replacement plan, new price, automatic subscriber migration, or final Health+ package.
The latest located update, published February 8, 2026, said Fitness+ remained under review and provided no specific final decision: MacRumors.

What changed inside Apple
The review followed a reported reorganization connected to COO Jeff Williams’s planned departure. Apple health and fitness responsibilities were reported to be moving into the Services organization led by Eddy Cue, while Sumbul Desai, Apple’s vice president of Health, took Fitness+ into her portfolio. The management change was reported in October 2025 by MacRumors.
A reporting-line change can indicate that Apple wants closer financial or strategic oversight. It does not, by itself, show that Apple intends to discontinue or merge the product.
Why Apple may be reassessing Fitness+
The concerns described in the reporting are business assessments, not Apple-published operating statistics. Gurman characterized Fitness+ as one of Apple’s weaker digital offerings and cited high subscriber churn and limited revenue upside. The reports also describe a relatively small but loyal user base and a service that is inexpensive for Apple to operate. Apple does not disclose Fitness+-specific subscriber totals, revenue, churn rates, or profit margins in the cited material.

The retention problem
Fitness+ launched in 2020 and offers instructor-led, on-demand workouts and meditation. Its integration with Apple Watch can make it useful for regular users, but the reporting suggests that integration has not guaranteed long-term subscriptions. A large catalog alone does not establish strong retention.
The Services pressure
Fitness+ can serve two purposes: a subscription sold directly to customers and an ecosystem feature that makes Apple Watch and other Apple devices more valuable. Moving oversight to Services may increase pressure to demonstrate subscription economics, while Apple may still value the product for hardware engagement.
Could Fitness+ become part of Apple Health+?
A November 16, 2025 report said Apple might fold Fitness+ into a broader Apple Health+ service: MacRumors. The concept was described as a subscription centered on AI-assisted health guidance, potentially covering nutrition, exercise, and sleep. Macworld provided additional context.

That remains a possibility, not a product announcement. No confirmed Health+ launch date, feature list, price, eligibility rules, or packaging has been established in the cited reports. The February 2026 update added uncertainty by saying Apple had scaled back plans for a separate Health+ subscription and might release some planned capabilities individually.
Several outcomes remain possible: Fitness+ could stay standalone, be redesigned, be included in a broader subscription, or be combined with another health strategy. Existing customers have not been told which path Apple will take.
What has changed for users—and what has not
Fitness+ remains available in the reporting covered here. Apple has also expanded the surrounding fitness ecosystem, but those developments should not be mistaken for a confirmed change to the subscription itself.

Should current subscribers cancel or renew?
Continue if the service already earns its place
Keep using Fitness+ if you value its trainers, workout formats, meditation library, Apple Watch metrics, or polished integration with iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and compatible audio hardware. “Under review” is not a reason by itself to stop a service you use.
Check the renewal decision separately
Before an annual renewal, check the date and current price in your Apple account. Annual billing may reduce the effective cost, but it commits you longer while Apple’s packaging is unsettled. A monthly plan provides more flexibility for someone who is uncertain.
Do not buy hardware just for access
An Apple Watch can deepen the workout and activity experience, but buying one solely for Fitness+ is difficult to justify while the subscription’s long-term structure is unknown. The watch should meet your broader health and activity needs independently.
A future merger would not necessarily mean immediate loss of access. Apple could migrate customers, alter bundle terms, or preserve the existing library inside another product—but all of those outcomes are speculative, and Apple has promised none of them.
Should prospective subscribers join now?
- Subscribe now if the current catalog and Apple-device integration already match what you want.
- Use an eligible trial first if you are unsure about trainer styles, workout variety, or motivation.
- Choose monthly billing when flexibility matters more than the annual price.
- Choose annual billing only if you expect to use the service for most of the year and accept the possibility of future packaging changes.
- Look elsewhere if you need live classes, intense community competition, equipment-centered training, or more adaptive programming.
Alternatives by use case
| What you want | Option to consider | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Live programming, equipment integration, and community features | Peloton App | Not the same level of Apple Watch and Health integration; current pricing is not stated here. |
| A broad major-brand workout library and lower-cost entry | Nike Training Club | Less Apple-exclusive production and integration; current pricing is not stated here. |
| Activity tracking and Apple Watch metrics without trainer-led content | Apple’s Workout and Health features | Does not replace Fitness+’s coached video classes. |
| Free variety | YouTube fitness channels | Quality, structure, advertising, and privacy practices vary widely. |
What to watch next
- An official Apple announcement about Fitness+ continuity or a new subscription structure.
- A confirmed Health+ name, launch date, feature list, price, or bundle terms.
- Changes to Fitness+ pricing, annual plans, trials, or Apple One packaging.
- Major personalization or AI features that materially change the service.
- A redesigned Fitness+ app experience or significant expansion to countries and platforms.
Until one of those signals appears, headlines about a possible merger should be read as scenario reporting rather than a timetable.
The current verdict
Apple Fitness+ appears to be in a strategic evaluation phase, not a confirmed shutdown phase. Apple is reportedly weighing whether the service should remain a standalone workout subscription, become part of a broader health product, or receive enough investment to improve retention. For readers, the sensible choice is to judge the service on the workouts available today, use a monthly plan when flexibility matters, and avoid treating rumors about Health+ as settled policy.
