The July 2022 shortlist is still useful as a map of the category, but it is not a current ranking. TV Time should not be treated as an available recommendation: Hobi says the service shut down on July 15, 2026, although that account comes from a commercial competitor and should be independently confirmed before relying on it. For an Android user choosing today, Hobi is the clearest TV Time replacement, Showly is the strongest design-led Trakt option, and Cinexplore is the best discovery-first choice among the apps with current evidence in the supplied sources.
The original article was an editorial “favorite” list, not a disclosed laboratory test or standardized scorecard. This update therefore separates documented features from editorial fit and treats 2022 prices, ratings and availability as historical only. The original list and its historical feature descriptions are at Android Headlines.
What a TV tracker should actually do
A useful tracker is more than a catalog of shows. Before choosing an app, check whether it can:
- Add series to a watchlist and mark individual episodes or whole seasons watched.
- Identify the next unwatched episode and handle paused, abandoned, completed and rewatched series.
- Show upcoming episodes and send configurable premiere alerts.
- Track movies as well as television if you want one viewing history.
- Synchronize between devices and provide an export or backup route.
Release information is never absolute. A database date, a network announcement, a regional streaming release time and an app notification can differ. Specials, split seasons, webisodes, remakes and international titles are common sources of mismatches. Android battery optimization can also delay notifications.

The ten apps, and who should choose them
1. Hobi — best current TV Time alternative and reminders
Hobi’s current Google Play listing describes episode check-offs, watchlists, next-episode countdowns, premiere alerts, a TV guide, Trakt synchronization and Google or Trakt backup: Google Play. Hobi also presents itself as a TV Time replacement at hobiapp.com. It does not stream shows; you still need the relevant Netflix, broadcaster or other authorized service.
Choose it if reminders, combined TV-and-movie tracking and migration matter most. It is a poor fit for someone demanding open-source software or an entirely local database. Google Play shows in-app purchases, but the supplied evidence does not establish a dependable current price.
Rank #2

- PORTABLE MEDIA CENTER - Enjoy vibrant visuals, immersive sound, and endless entertainment anywhere you go. The HD display has 480 nits of brightness for realistic graphics and dual Dolby Atmos speakers that provide impressive sound depth.
- ELEVATED EFFICIENCY - Experience the MediaTek Helio G85 processor and 60Hz refresh rate that ensure fluid browsing, responsive gaming, and lag-free streaming.
2. Showly 2.0 — best interface-led Trakt option
Showly’s official site lists Android and iOS availability, watchlists, episode tracking, discovery and Trakt synchronization: showlyapp.com. Its visual progress, lists and notification-oriented workflow suit people who want more polish than a bare checklist.
Check the current free-versus-paid feature split before committing years of history. The supplied official material does not provide a current price or detailed export policy.
3. Cinexplore — best for discovery and filtering
Cinexplore’s current listing covers watchlists, episode and movie tracking, personalized recommendations, viewing statistics, multilingual support and Material You styling. It says the app is powered by Trakt and TMDb and does not stream content: Google Play.

Use it when genre, rating, network, release-date and trending filters are central to how you choose a show. A user review reports incomplete Trakt synchronization; that is a reported complaint, not proof of a universal defect. The listing also indicates ads and in-app purchases, without a reliable current price in the supplied evidence.
4. TV Time — historical social favorite, not a safe current recommendation
The 2022 article positioned TV Time as an all-around social tracker with episode check-offs, descriptions, reviews, community engagement and movie support. However, Hobi’s migration article says TV Time shut down on July 15, 2026 and began deleting accounts and data: Hobi’s account. Because Hobi is a competitor and migration partner, treat that statement as attributed reporting rather than an independently verified fact. Do not install an unofficial APK or assume your old history remains recoverable.
5. TV Show & Movie Tracker — for an existing Trakt library
The 2022 description emphasized quick Trakt access, calendars, notifications, offline access, statistics, ratings, reviews and a Windows version. It makes sense for someone already invested in Trakt, but the supplied material does not verify its current Play listing, developer, update date, pricing or export behavior.

6. Next Episode — the minimalist calendar choice
Next Episode was described as a simple interface for show and movie lists, a calendar, discovery and creator or channel information. It suits readers who mainly need to know what airs next and do not want a social dashboard. Simplicity can also mean fewer statistics, comments and customization controls. Current availability is not established here.
7. MyShows — community-centered tracking
MyShows combines episode tracking and a calendar with recommendations and discussions around shows or episodes. Community value depends on language and audience activity, so it is best for readers who enjoy conversation as much as check-offs. The supplied evidence does not establish current Android maintenance or backup options.
8. SeriesGuide — open-source and ad-free positioning
The 2022 source presented SeriesGuide as open-source, ad-free and equipped with season and episode tracking, Trakt integration, backup, synchronization and an Android widget. Those are attractive properties for a long-term personal archive, but “open source” and the current free-feature set should be confirmed through the project’s present repository or documentation before publication or installation.

9. Flixi — recommendations and status alerts
Flixi focused on recommendations, premiere notices, cancellation and renewal alerts, network or platform information and TV-and-movie tracking. The source recorded a 3.0/5 Google Play rating at the time; ratings change and that dated snapshot is not a quality verdict. It is a discovery product first, not necessarily the best episode checklist. Current availability and maintenance are not established.
10. Simkl Lists — lightweight list management
Simkl Lists was described as a minimal tracker with custom lists, an upcoming-airing view, a TV guide, dark and light themes and discovery tools. It is appealing if you want low visual overhead. Readers needing deep statistics, social features or sophisticated export controls should verify those capabilities before moving a large library.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How Trakt changes the decision
Trakt can act as the account and synchronization layer behind several third-party interfaces. That can provide a better Android workflow than a service’s own interface, but it does not make every client equivalent. Widgets, notifications, discovery, offline behavior and conflict handling still differ.
- Choose one primary source of truth rather than editing the same history in several apps.
- Test one or two shows before importing everything; duplicates and missing episodes can result.
- Confirm whether ratings, comments, watch dates and rewatches transfer, not just watched status.
- Expect occasional delays or mismatched titles between Trakt, TMDb, TVDB and an app’s own metadata.
Readers considering Trakt can review the service at trakt.tv. Do not assume its free or paid terms without checking the current official pricing page.

- Use the app’s export, Google backup or Trakt connection when available.
- Keep a copy outside the app or service, especially before changing phones.
- Import a small sample and compare watched status, dates, ratings and rewatches.
- Record the exact title and season when a database handles specials or remakes incorrectly.
- Review the developer’s support channel and recent update history before making the app your sole archive.
A local-only list can disappear with a lost phone; a cloud account can become inaccessible if its provider closes or changes login systems. Google Play data-safety disclosures are developer-provided and can change, so they are not a complete independent privacy audit.
Which app should you pick?
- Choose Hobi for reminders, TV Time migration and combined TV/movie tracking.
- Choose Showly for a polished Android experience built around Trakt.
- Choose Cinexplore when discovery filters, recommendations and statistics matter most.
- Choose SeriesGuide only after confirming the current open-source project, backup path and free-tier limits.
- Choose Next Episode if a calendar and next-airing view are enough.
- Do not rely on TV Time until its availability and data-recovery status are independently confirmed.
These apps organize viewing; they do not provide the video. You still need an authorized streaming or broadcast service to watch each program.
