District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the sentence followed convictions for “seven sexual assaults and the fentanyl-induced murders” of Cabrales-Arzola and Giles. Hochman said it delivered what he called “long-awaited justice” for the two women and for the survivors who testified.

What happened on November 13, 2021?
| Approximate time or date | Event described by prosecutors or later case reporting |
|---|---|
| About 3 a.m., November 13, 2021 | Pearce and Osborn met Giles and Cabrales-Arzola at a warehouse party in East Los Angeles. |
| About two hours later | The women accompanied the men to Pearce’s Beverly Hills apartment. |
| Roughly 35 minutes after arriving | The District Attorney’s Office says Cabrales-Arzola called a rideshare to leave, but neither woman ultimately departed. |
| About 11 hours after arrival | Pearce carried Giles from the apartment and left her at a hospital. She was already dead when hospital staff received her. |
| About 1½ hours later | Pearce carried Cabrales-Arzola to a different hospital. Medical staff resuscitated her, but she remained critically ill. |
| Eleven days later | Cabrales-Arzola died, one day before her 27th birthday. |
How did the drugging lead to the deaths?
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s account says Pearce supplied GHB and fentanyl at the apartment and that the substances caused fatal overdoses. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid, while GHB is a central-nervous-system depressant; combining intoxicating substances can make a person unable to protect themselves or recognize a medical emergency.

It does not describe the precise method of administration—for example, whether either substance was secretly placed in a drink—so that detail should not be assumed.
Pearce did not take the women to the same hospital. According to prosecutors, he carried Giles out first and Cabrales-Arzola approximately 90 minutes later, leaving them at separate facilities. Giles was pronounced dead on delivery; Cabrales-Arzola briefly regained circulation but ultimately died from her injuries and drug-related condition.

What was Pearce convicted of?
A Los Angeles jury found Pearce guilty on every charged count on February 4, 2025. The murder convictions were for first-degree murder. The sexual-assault convictions covered seven separate victims and consisted of the following charges:
| Conviction category | Number of counts |
|---|---|
| First-degree murder | 2 |
| Forcible rape | 3 |
| Sexual penetration by force | 2 |
| Sodomy by force | 1 |
| Rape of an unconscious woman | 1 |
Thus, the answer to whether Pearce was convicted of sexual assault is yes: the jury convicted him of seven sexual-assault counts, in addition to the two murder counts.

What happened to Brandt Osborn?
Osborn was with Pearce when they met the women and was prosecuted in connection with what happened afterward. His jury did not reach a unanimous verdict on accessory-after-the-fact charges. The District Attorney’s sentencing release said further proceedings were still pending at that time.
A non-unanimous verdict is not a conviction. The available account therefore does not establish that Osborn was found guilty of helping Pearce conceal the crimes.

According to A&E’s chronology, police had investigated Pearce before the 2021 deaths in connection with allegations of drugging and sexual assault. Prosecutors previously declined some matters because evidence was considered insufficient or a witness was unwilling to cooperate.
Those earlier investigations and allegations are distinct from the seven sexual-assault counts proved at Pearce’s 2025 trial. They should not be presented as additional convictions.

Why the case drew national attention
The case combined two deaths following alleged drug exposure with testimony from multiple survivors of sexual assault. Hochman called it “a stark reminder of the devastation caused by fentanyl.” Former sex-crimes prosecutor Jane Manning told A&E that drug-facilitated sexual-assault cases are especially difficult to prosecute because many never reach court.
The established legal outcome is the October 2025 California sentence, the two first-degree murder convictions, the seven sexual-assault convictions and lifetime sex-offender registration. Osborn’s accessory case remained unresolved in the account released with Pearce’s sentencing.
