Cheapest way to watch it once
Apple TV Store and CosmoGo were both listed at CA$5.99 for a rental, while Prime Video’s official Canadian page showed CA$6.99 for UHD. Because those figures come from different listings and dates, open each checkout page immediately before renting. Choose the store that works with your television or streaming device rather than assuming the lowest displayed price will remain available.
Renting versus buying
Rent
- Usually the sensible choice for one viewing and the lowest upfront cost.
- Access is time-limited; check the retailer’s checkout screen for the current start and expiry rules.
Buy
- Better for repeat viewings and keeping the film in one retailer library.
- A digital purchase is tied to the retailer account and its service rules. It is not a physical disc or an unrestricted video file, and access can vary if an account changes country.
How to rent or buy the film
Prime Video
- Open Prime Video with the storefront set to Canada.
- Search for Dune, adding “2021” or “Denis Villeneuve” if necessary.
- Confirm the 2021 cast and director before selecting the result.
- Choose Rent UHD or Buy UHD, then complete payment through the Amazon account.
- Open the title from your Prime Video library and start playback.
If UHD is not offered, check the device, display, app version and internet connection before paying. The Canadian listing also exposes a two-film collection; it is a purchase bundle, not a subscription.
#1 Best Overall
Apple TV Store
- Open the Apple TV app or the Canadian Apple TV Store website.
- Select the entry marked 2021 and directed by Denis Villeneuve.
- Choose Rent or Buy and sign in with the Apple Account making the transaction.
- Check the displayed format and audio information, complete payment, then play it from the Apple TV app library or purchased items.
CosmoGo
- Use CosmoGo only if its Canadian listing appears in your region and on your device.
- Search for the 2021 Denis Villeneuve film, confirm the poster and cast, and review the current rental or purchase price.
- Complete the transaction and launch playback from the CosmoGo library.
The CosmoGo availability and price cited here come through JustWatch’s Canadian listing, so verify the direct CosmoGo checkout before payment.
Is it included with Prime Video or Apple TV+?
There is no evidence in the current Canadian listings that a standard Prime Video or Apple TV+ subscription includes Dune. Prime Video presents separate rent and buy controls. Apple’s page is an Apple TV Store film listing, not proof that the title is part of Apple TV+. Do not subscribe to either service solely for this film unless the service’s Canadian page explicitly changes to an included-playback offer.

Quality, sound and language options
Apple’s Canadian page lists a 2-hour-35-minute runtime, English and Canadian French audio, English audio description and closed captions. Its listing data also identifies Dolby Atmos and Dolby 5.1 options. JustWatch reports a 4K presentation with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for the Apple TV Store. Prime Video’s Canadian page labels its rental and purchase options UHD and lists English, French Canadian and audio-description-related options.
- UHD, 4K, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos require compatible hardware, app support, cables, display, sound system and settings.
- A service may deliver HD instead if your device, connection or display cannot support UHD.
- Runtime metadata can differ slightly between retailers; Apple’s 2h35m and JustWatch’s 155 minutes represent the same feature.
- During playback, open the audio and subtitle menu to select Canadian French, English, audio description or captions when offered.
Make sure you select the right Dune
The intended film is Dune (2021), directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem and Stellan Skarsgård. Apple lists a 2-hour-35-minute runtime; JustWatch lists 155 minutes, and its Canadian page gives the film a PG rating.

Search results may also show David Lynch’s Dune (1984), Dune: Part Two (2024), Planet Dune, Jodorowsky’s Dune or Dune: Prophecy. Check the year and Villeneuve credit before renting.
If the title does not appear
- Set the Apple, Amazon or CosmoGo storefront and account region to Canada; US availability does not establish Canadian availability.
- Search for Dune (2021), Dune: Part One, “Denis Villeneuve” or “Timothée Chalamet.”
- Leave a subscription-only section and search the retailer’s rent/buy store.
- Update the app, then sign out and back in if a purchase or library item is missing.
- Check parental controls and age restrictions.
- Confirm that playback uses the same Apple Account or Amazon account that completed payment.
- If a rental will not play, use the retailer’s transaction history and help tools before purchasing a second copy.
Do not use a VPN to bypass regional licensing: it can produce the wrong storefront, payment failures or service-terms problems.

- Dune
What about Dune: Part Two?
Dune: Part Two is a separate 2024 film. A two-film collection shown by Prime Video may include both movies, but it is not the same as renting the 2021 film alone and its price and terms should be checked on the Canadian listing.
The Bottom Line
For one viewing, compare the Apple TV Store, Prime Video and CosmoGo checkout pages: the latest Canadian listings showed CA$5.99 rentals on Apple TV Store and CosmoGo and a CA$6.99 UHD rental on Prime Video. Pick the retailer already supported by your device, and verify the final price, format and audio options before payment.
