Yes—Netflix offers selected games on compatible TVs and TV streaming devices. You launch the game in the TV’s Netflix app, then scan an on-screen QR code with a phone or tablet to use it as the controller. You do not need a console or a separate gamepad.
First, check whether your TV can play games
Netflix describes TV games as a beta experience. They are available in the United States, but not in every country or on every device. The quickest eligibility check is the Netflix app on the screen where you want to play:
- Open Netflix on your TV or streaming device and choose a profile.
- Look for Games or Party Games in the top navigation or on the home screen.
- If either appears, open it. Netflix says this indicates that the device meets the relevant hardware requirements and the account is included in the beta.
If Netflix is installed but there is no Games section, that device may not be eligible. Netflix identifies hardware and manufacture year as possible reasons; country availability and whether the feature is enabled can also matter. Netflix app support for a TV brand does not guarantee games work on every model. Its Games-row eligibility guidance and general supported-device list serve different purposes: the latter confirms Netflix app support, not TV-game compatibility.
Netflix describes support as covering many recent TV models and streaming devices, rather than providing a universal rule for every smart TV or streamer. If the row is missing, update the Netflix app if an update is available, check that you are using the TV’s Netflix interface, and consult Netflix’s TV-game availability and setup page. A general brand list alone cannot confirm that a particular model will run games.

- Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.

What you need
- An active Netflix membership and a compatible TV or streaming device with the Netflix app.
- A stable internet connection. Netflix recommends a download speed of at least 10 Mbps for TV games; that is guidance, not a guarantee of smooth controls.
- One phone or tablet for each player, with a working camera to scan the TV’s QR code.
- For Android, the Netflix app installed on the phone or tablet. For iPhone or iPad, iOS or iPadOS 17 or later; follow the prompt to use Netflix Game Controller.
The controller phone does not have to be signed in to a particular Netflix account. The TV still needs to be signed in to an eligible account, and the feature remains subject to the account, location, device, and game’s availability. Netflix says controller connection does not share the phone’s account information.
Launch a game and pair your phone
- Open Netflix on the TV and select a profile.
- Open Games or Party Games. The section’s location depends on the TV interface.
- Choose a title and select Play Game. If a title does not offer that button on the TV, it may be a mobile-only game or otherwise unavailable on that screen; pick a title that does offer it.
- Wait for the QR code. Some games show a launch screen first. Move past it if needed; when the QR code appears, leave it visible on the TV.
- Scan the QR code with your phone or tablet’s native Camera app and tap the link that appears. Follow the prompt to open or install the controller app.
- Connect any additional players. Each player scans the code with their own phone or tablet.
- Start playing once the phone displays the controller interface and the game is ready on the TV.
The phone supplies controls; the game runs through the Netflix app on the TV. This is not ordinary phone-to-TV casting. Netflix’s phone and tablet controller instructions describe the QR-code pairing flow.
Android and iPhone or iPad setup differences
Android
Scan the TV code with the phone’s camera and tap the link. If prompted, install the Netflix app, then scan the TV code again. The second scan may be needed to complete the connection. Netflix’s Android controller flow requires the Netflix app on the mobile device.

iPhone or iPad

TV games, mobile games, and computer games are different
A game appearing in Netflix’s mobile catalog does not mean it is playable on a TV. Mobile games are downloaded and played on a phone or tablet; for the TV experience, look for a title with a Play Game option in the TV interface. Netflix also offers some games through Netflix.com in Chrome or Edge, where controls can vary. The TV setup in this guide starts in the TV’s Netflix app.
The phone is a controller rather than a second screen for the game. Netflix’s TV flow pairs it to the game with a QR code, instead of asking you to cast the phone’s display.

Controllers, players, and costs
Use a phone, not a console gamepad, for this TV setup
Netflix’s documented TV phone-controller flow does not support physical gamepads or other controllers. Do not assume a PlayStation, Xbox, Bluetooth, or USB controller will work with a TV game. Netflix has separate guidance noting that compatible controllers can work with some games or platforms, but support varies; that does not establish compatibility with every TV title. See its controller support information.
One mobile device per player
Each player needs a phone or tablet connected as a controller. The particular game determines how many players it accepts; having additional phones does not guarantee that a game supports a larger group.

Netflix says its TV and mobile games are included with a Netflix membership, with no separate game fee, advertisements, or in-app purchases. You do not need to buy a higher-priced plan specifically to unlock TV games.

Fix common setup problems
The Games section is missing
- Check the Netflix app on the TV itself and look in both the top navigation and home-screen rows.
- Update the app if an update is available, then reopen Netflix.
- Consider whether the specific TV or streaming device may be too old or unsupported. Netflix does not treat general Netflix app compatibility as proof of game compatibility.
- Check Netflix’s country availability information; the beta is not offered everywhere.
A game opens but there is no QR code
Some titles show a launch screen before pairing. Advance past that screen and wait for the QR code. If the title has no Play Game button in the TV interface, choose a different one.
The phone will not scan the QR code
- Use the phone’s native Camera app rather than a third-party QR scanner.
- Move closer to or farther from the TV, and tap the QR-code area on the phone screen to refocus.
- On Android, install the Netflix app if prompted and scan the code again.
- Start the game again if the code is no longer on screen, then scan the newly displayed code.
The phone connects, but controls do not work
- Confirm the phone is showing the controller interface, not just a browser page.
- Check that the intended game is open on the TV. Restart it and scan its current code if necessary.
- Close and reopen Netflix or Netflix Game Controller, and check that the phone meets the operating-system requirements.
- For multiplayer, have each player scan the code displayed for the current game session rather than relying on an old pairing screen.
Netflix’s game-specific Pictionary controller guidance also notes that a QR scan may be needed when starting a game.
The game stutters or the connection drops
Netflix recommends at least 10 Mbps download speed, but meeting that recommendation does not guarantee responsive controls. Wi-Fi congestion, distance from the router, TV performance, or service conditions can also affect play. As a troubleshooting test, keep the phone and TV on the same home network; Netflix’s primary setup instructions do not state that this is a requirement.

For an unstable connection, Netflix recommends restarting the network equipment:
- Turn off the affected device.
- Unplug the modem and router, wait 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
- Wait for the network to restart and try the game again.
Games that emphasize party play, trivia, words, or puzzles may be a better fit for phone-based controls than titles requiring very precise, rapid input. Netflix does not publish a latency figure for this experience.
Leaving a game and privacy
To exit, press the Netflix N button on the phone or use the TV remote’s back button. Netflix says it automatically receives and stores information about the Netflix app, device, and Netflix account used to play games on TV and Netflix.com. Keep that in mind when connecting a guest’s or child’s phone as a controller.
