Need help with NYT Connections puzzle #800 from Tuesday, August 19, 2025? Start with the color-coded hints below, then use the clearly marked solution section if you still need the four groups. Connections asks you to sort 16 tiles into four groups of four, with up to four incorrect guesses allowed.

Spoiler-free hints for Connections #800

Try each clue before looking at the category names or answers.

  • Yellow: First with the gossip.
  • Green: Grapes with added spirit.
  • Blue: Add a word that’s like a big stone.
  • Purple: These begin with fast words.

In plainer terms, the sets point toward someone who will not stop talking, strong or fortified alcohol, something “solid as a…,” and words associated with Speedy Gonzales.

How this Connections board works

The 16 tiles are VERMOUTH, PLYMOUTH, CLASSIC, DASHBOARD, BLABBERMOUTH, DARTMOUTH, LITTLE, PORT, FLYWHEEL, CHATTERBOX, RUSHMORE, MARSALA, WINDBAG, THE, SHERRY, and PRATTLER. You can play on the NYT Games website or mobile experience; the game ends when all four groups are found or four mistakes have been made. TechRadar described this particular board as hard, which is a subjective solver assessment rather than a statistical rating.

Why the groupings are easy to confuse

Several tiles look as if they belong together by surface meaning. “Mouth” appears in BLABBERMOUTH and DARTMOUTH, while “port” can suggest both a place and a drink. The reliable way through the board is to test complete relationships: four talkative-person synonyms, four fortified wines, four phrases ending in ROCK, and four words beginning with speed-related terms.
