Hollywood’s relationship with technology goes well beyond gadget endorsements. Some entertainment figures have founded technology companies, built digitally native brands, created sustainability-investment platforms, or made repeated bets on artificial intelligence and other startups.
There is no official ranking of the “most tech-savvy” celebrities, so this is a curated list based on documented involvement rather than fame. For this article, tech-savvy means sustained participation in technology businesses, products, investment, research, digital media, or technology-focused philanthropy. It does not necessarily mean coding ability or engineering training.
How this list was selected
The order reflects five practical questions: how directly the person participates in technology companies or products; how long and consistently that activity has continued; the range of sectors involved; the evidence of meaningful operating or investment responsibility; and the public or philanthropic impact. Fame and net worth are not ranking criteria.
Important distinction: a personal angel investment, a formal venture fund, a company-founder role, a product-development role and a paid endorsement are different things. The profiles below identify which category applies and avoid treating an investment as proof of engineering expertise.

1. Ashton Kutcher: the strongest celebrity technology investor
Known for sitcoms, films and producing, Kutcher has made venture investing a sustained part of his professional identity. His Sound Ventures biography describes him as a technology investor and co-founder of A-Grade Investments and Sound Ventures: Sound Ventures biography.
What he has done
A-Grade began in 2010 and Sound Ventures in 2015. Publicly reported investments include Airbnb, Uber, Airtable, Affirm, Duolingo, GitLab, Hugging Face, OpenAI and Anthropic. Sound Ventures announced an AI fund with investments in OpenAI, Anthropic and Stability AI, while reporting more than $1 billion managed across funds: Business Wire announcement. The Milken Institute also lists a broad technology portfolio and more than $1 billion under management: Milken Institute profile.
Why it is substantive
Kutcher helped move celebrity participation from occasional angel checks toward organized venture investing, including a dedicated AI strategy. In May 2026, Sound Ventures said he would move into a senior advisory role while developing a new firm focused on deep tech, infrastructure and energy: Sound Ventures news.
What it does not prove
Portfolio companies were not founded or engineered by Kutcher, and reported assets and holdings vary by fund and date. His record supports the label technology investor, not software engineer.

2. will.i.am: the technology product builder
The musician and producer has pursued technology as a founder, creative strategist and consumer-product collaborator. His official biography describes work in software, operating systems, artificial intelligence, natural-language understanding, voice computing and consumer electronics: will.i.am’s foundation biography.
Documented ventures
He founded I.AM.PLUS, identified by the World Economic Forum as a Hollywood-based technology company: World Economic Forum profile. The same biography identifies him as a founding equity stakeholder in Beats Electronics and describes its later acquisition by Apple for $3 billion. He also developed XUPERMASK, a wearable product made with Honeywell.
Rank #2
Why it is substantive
Unlike a celebrity who only licenses a name, will.i.am has repeatedly participated in product concepts, interfaces and technology companies. His creative role does not mean he personally developed Beats’ audio systems or every underlying software component, and individual products can change direction or fail commercially.
3. Robert Downey Jr.: the sustainability-technology advocate
Downey is best known for acting, but his technology work centers on climate and environmental innovation. He founded FootPrint Coalition, which developed FootPrint Coalition Ventures as an investment platform for sustainable technology: FootPrint Coalition announcement.
Focus areas
The platform’s stated categories include consumer products, food and agriculture technology, materials and industrial technology, energy and transportation, education and media, and environmental solutions.
Why it is substantive
Downey combines capital, media attention and advocacy around a defined technology theme rather than promoting one gadget. “Sustainable technology” is a broad category, however; not every portfolio company is a pure software or hardware startup, and the organization’s mission is not independent evidence of investment performance.
4. Jared Leto: the early digital-media angel
Leto’s technology involvement is primarily as an angel investor associated with internet, digital-media and software companies. TechCrunch includes him in its overview of celebrity venture investors: TechCrunch’s celebrity-investor overview. A 2026 Milken Institute discussion also cited him when examining entertainment figures who invest in technology: Milken Institute transcript.
Why it is substantive
Leto represents the celebrity angel model: personal interest in internet businesses and early-stage access to founders. Public reporting does not establish the size, timing or terms of every deal, and there is no basis here for calling him a venture-fund manager.

5. Gwyneth Paltrow: the digital consumer founder and startup investor
Paltrow built Goop as a lifestyle and commerce platform with online publishing, community and direct-to-consumer distribution. TechCrunch also identifies her as a celebrity investor, including participation alongside Snoop Dogg in the diaper company Kudos: TechCrunch overview.
Why it is substantive
Her example shows that technology fluency can involve digital distribution, online customer acquisition, data-informed consumer operations and startup investing. Goop should not be mislabeled as a software company, and consumer-wellness branding is not evidence of medical or scientific expertise.
6. Jessica Alba: the digitally native consumer entrepreneur
Alba co-founded The Honest Company, a consumer-products business built around e-commerce, digital customer acquisition, online distribution and technology-enabled operations.
Why it is substantive
The company demonstrates how technology can function as the operating infrastructure of a consumer brand even when the products are diapers, personal-care goods or household items. Alba’s inclusion does not mean she personally designed the company’s e-commerce, logistics or supply-chain systems; technology-enabled consumer founder is the more accurate description.
7. Kevin Hart: the entertainment-tech investor
Hart co-founded HartBeat Ventures, associated with investments spanning consumer, digital-media and technology businesses. TechCrunch places the firm within the expanding celebrity venture ecosystem: TechCrunch overview.
Why it is substantive
Hart’s relevance is the overlap between entertainment, creator businesses, consumer products and venture capital. HartBeat Ventures is not exclusively a technology fund, so each portfolio company must be identified by its actual category. His role also differs from the professional partners responsible for financial and technical diligence.
Rank #4
8. Snoop Dogg: the cross-sector technology angel
Snoop Dogg has invested across cannabis-related businesses, consumer products and digital ventures. TechCrunch reports that he and business partner Phil Schwarz invested in companies including Kudos and Juliet: TechCrunch overview.
Why it is substantive
His pattern of early-stage investing reflects an ability to spot consumer adoption and cultural momentum in categories where regulation and technology intersect. Cannabis businesses are not automatically technology companies, and public investment counts can include indirect participation or multiple funding rounds.

Jay-Z has participated in venture investing through Marcy Venture Partners and related structures. TechCrunch identifies his interests as spanning consumer and technology businesses: TechCrunch overview.
Why it is substantive
His investment advantage is cultural insight, brand-building experience and access to consumer communities. Not every Marcy investment is a technology investment, and the fund’s professional operating team—not the celebrity name alone—handles much of the diligence.
10. Paris Hilton: the digital-media entrepreneur and investor
Hilton is CEO and co-founder of 11:11 Media, a company that treats celebrity as a digital-media and technology business. TechCrunch reports investments associated with the company in MoonPay, Colossal Biosciences, AfterParty and Fireside Chats: TechCrunch overview.
Range of activity
Those examples span crypto, biotech, social and event technology, and podcasting. That breadth makes Hilton a strong example of a creator-platform entrepreneur, but it is not a single, tightly defined technology thesis. Portfolio lists and investment totals can change quickly, and crypto and biotech require different standards of risk and evidence.

What “tech-savvy” means in Hollywood
Founders and operators
will.i.am, Jessica Alba, Robert Downey Jr. and Paris Hilton have built companies or platforms in which technology is part of the product, distribution system or investment infrastructure.
Venture investors
Kutcher, Leto, Snoop Dogg, Hart, Jay-Z, Paltrow and Hilton are primarily investors, though their involvement ranges from formal funds to individual angel participation.
Different kinds of expertise
- Technical fluency: understanding products, markets and founders.
- Business expertise: building companies or evaluating investments.
- Engineering expertise: personally designing, coding or developing systems.
- Cultural influence: making emerging technology understandable or desirable to a mass audience.
Most people on this list are best described as technologically fluent entrepreneurs or investors, not engineers.
Celebrity access helps—but it is not technical execution
Celebrity capital can provide access to founders, audience distribution, fundraising visibility, brand credibility and customer acquisition. It can also create confusion: publicity is not product-market fit, a famous backer is not a technical team, and an investment is not an endorsement or a guarantee of safety, effectiveness or financial success.

The Bottom Line
The most tech-savvy entertainment figures are not necessarily the most famous. They are the people whose involvement lasts beyond a campaign: founders building technology-enabled businesses, investors repeatedly backing technology companies, and advocates creating platforms for AI, digital media or sustainability. Their celebrity may open doors, but technical execution still belongs to the companies and teams doing the work.
