Jourdan Blue—spelled with a “u,” despite the “Jordan” spelling in the original headline—auditioned for America’s Got Talent Season 20 with The Script’s “Breakeven.” Howie Mandel awarded him the Golden Buzzer. A 2026 retrospective reports that Blue ultimately finished third in the season.
Who is Jourdan Blue?
Blue is a New Orleans native who was raised in Ponchatoula after Hurricane Katrina, according to his interview with Axios New Orleans. Before television brought him to a national audience, he developed as a street performer in New Orleans’s French Quarter.
Blue told Axios that he had been a troublemaker as a teenager and skipped much of high school. Around 2020 and 2021, he busked in the French Quarter to earn money. He described those performances as practical training: he had to manage changing crowds, recover when something went wrong and keep performing without the protections of a formal stage.

“If I messed up, oh well, I’ll never see you again,” Blue said of busking in the Axios interview. “But that’s where I cut my teeth and got confidence and stage presence.”

What song did Jourdan Blue sing on AGT?
Blue sang The Script’s “Breakeven” during his Season 20 audition. NBC’s indexed listing identifies the performance as “Jourdan Blue’s ‘Breakeven’ Cover.”
In an August 2025 interview with Parade, Blue said “Breakeven” was not among the five or 10 songs he thought he sang best. He nevertheless felt it was the right choice for the audition. He said AGT music producer Courtney supported the selection after Blue sent her a video of the song.
How did Jourdan Blue get the Golden Buzzer?
Howie Mandel gave Blue the Golden Buzzer after the audition. Axios described the performance as soulful and reported Mandel telling Blue, “this is just the beginning of where you can go.” That quotation is Axios’s report of the audition exchange rather than an independently checked transcript.

The Golden Buzzer advanced Blue past the usual early-stage process and made the audition one of Season 20’s defining moments. His experience performing for unpredictable French Quarter crowds also gave him a very different preparation from contestants whose careers began mainly in schools, clubs or formal competitions.
How did his New Orleans background shape his performance?
Blue told Parade that he grew up watching talent competitions with his mother and imagined himself performing on the AGT stage. He also credited his grandfather with taking him in and supporting his pursuit of singing.
His street work supplied a separate kind of education. In the French Quarter, Blue said, he learned to read an audience quickly, continue after mistakes and create a connection without knowing who would stop to listen. Those skills are editorial context for understanding his audition, not a measured comparison between street performance and television competition.

What was Jourdan Blue’s life like before AGT?
In the August 2025 Parade interview, Blue disclosed that he had previously slept in bathrooms and on blow-up mattresses at work. He said he had since obtained a place where his grandfather stayed with him. Blue also said that his grandfather was diagnosed with cancer after Blue returned from the show, and he discussed supporting his young son and his girlfriend.
These are personal disclosures from that 2025 interview, not confirmation of Blue’s present housing, family situation or caregiving responsibilities. Current circumstances may have changed.
What happened to Jourdan Blue after his Golden Buzzer?
Axios reported in August 2025 that Blue was returning for the live shows and had begun working in a studio on an album. That report documented an album in progress; it did not establish that an album was later released.

In the same period, Blue told Parade that he had won a trip to Cabo through TikTok after being recognized among the app’s top musicians at an event. He was also preparing another performance for America’s vote. Those details describe his situation in August 2025.
A 2026 TV Insider report provides the later competition outcome: Blue finished third in America’s Got Talent Season 20. The report also notes that rapper Luke Taleno supported Blue at the show before appearing on Season 21.

Blue told Axios that a street-performance video of Childish Gambino’s “Redbone” received “2 or 3 million views.” That is Blue’s approximate recollection as quoted in the 2025 article, not an independently verified platform metric.

What does Jourdan Blue want to do next?
Blue told Parade, “I want to give people a new perspective and make some form of a positive impact on the world, which I know is such a vague statement.” The comment captures the ambition he described while preparing for the show’s later rounds.
Beyond the third-place result reported in 2026, a definitive account of his current releases, touring schedule or personal circumstances is not established here. The album work reported in 2025 should not be treated as proof of a subsequent release.
