If a song appears under Library → Purchased, Amazon generally provides a download for local storage. If it is available only through Prime or Amazon Music Unlimited, the app may download it for offline listening, but Amazon does not provide it as an ordinary MP3 that you can copy to another app, USB drive, CD, or generic music player.
Start by checking which type of content you have. That distinction explains most missing Download buttons and apparently missing files.
First, confirm that you actually purchased the song
A track can appear in Amazon Music because it is included with a subscription, saved to a playlist, liked, or imported—not because you own a downloadable copy. Open Amazon Music and go to Library. Scroll the filter row horizontally if necessary and select Purchased. Amazon says purchased music is shown there and is no longer necessarily placed automatically in the ordinary Songs and Albums categories: Amazon’s Purchased-library guidance.

Download a purchased song in a web browser
- Open Amazon Music in a browser and sign in to the account that made the purchase.
- Select Library.
- Scroll the row of filters beginning with Playlists until Purchased appears.
- Select Purchased, then find the song or album.
- Open the three-dot menu beside the item and choose Download.
- Check the browser’s default Downloads folder, or the location your browser asks you to choose.
Amazon describes browser downloads as suitable for local storage or import into another media player such as iTunes or Windows Media Player: Amazon’s browser-download instructions. A single song normally downloads as an individual music file. Albums or multiple selections may download as a compressed archive, depending on the current interface and browser; do not assume a particular extension or archive format before checking the downloaded item.
Download with the Amazon Music app for Windows or Mac
- Open Amazon Music for PC or Mac.
- Select Library, then choose Songs or Albums.
- Apply the Purchased filter.
- Open the context menu next to the purchased song or album.
- Choose Download.
Amazon says the default location is typically an Amazon Music folder under My Music on Windows and under the Music folder on macOS: PC and Mac download guidance. After downloading, copy the files to a separate backup location instead of relying on the app as your only copy.
Download a purchased song on Android
- Open the Amazon Music app and select Library.
- Scroll the filter row until Purchased appears.
- Open the menu beside the purchased song and select Download.
- Look for the file in the Amazon Music folder on the phone.
- Connect the phone to a Windows PC or Mac by USB and use a file browser to copy the file.
Amazon specifically warns you to copy purchased music rather than move it; moving it can make the item unavailable for playback in the Amazon Music app. Android storage permissions and folder visibility vary by phone and Android version. Details: Amazon’s Android instructions.
As an alternative, open the Amazon Music website in an Android browser, enable Desktop site, and follow the browser steps. Amazon presents this as a workaround, so its availability can vary by account, country, browser, and interface version.

Download a purchased song on iPhone or iPad
- Open the Amazon Music app and select Library.
- Scroll the filter row to Purchased.
- For one song, sort by recently added, open its three-dot menu, and select Download.
- For an album, sort by album name and select the Download icon.
Amazon documents these controls here: iPhone and iPad purchased-download guidance. An in-app download is not proof that iOS exposes a freely movable MP3 in the Files app. Treat iPhone and iPad downloads primarily as Amazon Music local playback unless you can verify file access on your specific device and version.
If the Purchased tab or song is missing
- Scroll the filter row horizontally; Purchased may simply be off-screen.
- Open the Amazon Music app menu, choose Settings, then Refresh My Music.
- Update Amazon Music and reopen the Purchased view.
- Confirm that you are signed in to the Amazon account that made the purchase.
- Check the correct Amazon marketplace or country account.
- Confirm that the order was a digital music purchase, not only a CD or vinyl order, subscription entitlement, playlist addition, or liked song.
Amazon identifies Refresh My Music as an official remedy for missing library content: Amazon’s library troubleshooting steps. If synchronization still fails, general app troubleshooting may include updating, force-stopping, clearing cache, or temporarily disabling a VPN, proxy, or ad blocker: Amazon’s app-error guidance.
Why a Download button may not produce an MP3
Prime and Unlimited downloads are app-managed offline copies
If the title is supplied by Prime or Music Unlimited rather than listed under Purchased, the Download command is for offline playback inside Amazon Music. Amazon says these titles cannot be copied to a computer or played in another app: Amazon’s offline-download explanation. A matching song may have both a subscription version and a separately purchased version; return to Library → Purchased to obtain the latter.

Amazon’s developer documentation explains that streaming media uses encryption and Widevine DRM, with the app obtaining a playback license and decrypting content for authorized playback: Amazon Music playback documentation. That is why an offline Unlimited song can play without internet access yet not appear in Files or Finder. Renaming a cache file will not turn it into a usable MP3.

Do not use converters as the normal fix
Third-party “Amazon Music converters” can create malware, account, copyright, and terms-of-service risks. Amazon’s Terms prohibit circumventing content-protection methods: Amazon Music Terms of Use.
Transfer and back up a genuine purchased file
- Browser download: check the browser’s Downloads folder.
- Windows or Mac app: check the Amazon Music folder under My Music or Music.
- Android: connect by USB and copy from the Amazon Music folder; copy rather than move.
- Windows Media Player: open Organize → Manage Libraries → Add, browse to the download folder, and choose Include Folder. Amazon documents this import path at Amazon’s media-player instructions.
- Portable player or USB drive: copy the purchased file according to the device maker’s instructions.
- Backup: keep a second copy on another drive or a reputable personal backup service.
Amazon’s terms allow for content to be removed from the Store or become unavailable in unusual legal circumstances. Download and back up a purchased file when it is available, but do not assume every historic purchase is guaranteed to remain downloadable forever or in every country.
When to contact Amazon support
Escalate when a confirmed digital purchase is absent from Purchased after refresh, the order appears in your Amazon account but not in Amazon Music, the Download command repeatedly errors, or a previously available purchase has disappeared. If you bought a CD or vinyl record, check whether that specific order qualified for AutoRip rather than assuming a digital copy was included; AutoRip has separate eligibility rules: Amazon’s Terms and AutoRip information.
What the result means
Purchased means use Amazon’s browser, desktop, Android, or iOS purchased-content path. Prime and Unlimited mean app-only offline listening, not ownership of a transferable audio file. Once a genuine purchased file is downloaded, copy it to a backup and import it into the player or device you actually use.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I download Amazon Music Unlimited songs as MP3 files?
No. Unlimited and Prime titles can be downloaded for offline playback in the Amazon Music app, but Amazon does not provide them as ordinary files for export.
Why can I play a song offline but not find it in Files?
It is probably an encrypted Prime or Unlimited offline copy managed by the Amazon Music app, not a purchased file.
Where are purchased Amazon Music songs stored?

Can I burn purchased Amazon MP3s to a CD?
A genuine purchased file can generally be imported into compatible media software for personal use, subject to Amazon’s terms and the software’s capabilities. Subscription offline copies cannot be exported or burned.
Do Amazon Music purchases survive subscription cancellation?
A Digital Music Store purchase is separate from Prime or Unlimited access. Subscription offline downloads, however, depend on the active service entitlement and app.
