PS4 users have reported seeing “Unable to Connect” in Crunchyroll, but the available evidence does not confirm a complete Crunchyroll outage. PlayStation’s status page is a useful check for PSN problems, not proof that every Crunchyroll service is working. The message is a symptom, not a diagnosis: the cause could be Crunchyroll, the PS4 app, account authentication, or the network path between the console and the service.
Is Crunchyroll down on PS4?
There is no confirmed Crunchyroll-wide outage established by the available status information. The PlayStation Network status page can help identify a PSN incident, but a green result does not cover Crunchyroll’s servers or app. Check Crunchyroll’s official announcements and test the service on another device before concluding the problem is global.
Users posted reports on August 6–7, 2026 describing Crunchyroll problems on PlayStation consoles, including PS4; some reports also mentioned PS5 and Xbox. These are anecdotal reports, not an official outage confirmation, and they do not establish that all PS4 users or any particular region are affected. See the PlayStation user reports for context.

What “Unable to Connect” tells you—and what it does not
The message means the PS4 app could not complete a connection or load the service as expected. It does not by itself show that your home internet is down, that Crunchyroll has a global outage, or that your account is at fault. Possible causes include a service or authentication interruption, PSN trouble, a regional or title-specific restriction, an app or system-software problem, or a router, ISP, DNS, or filtering issue.

Run these checks before changing settings
- Try another online PS4 app. If other online services also fail, check PSN status and the console’s internet connection.
- Try Crunchyroll on another device using the same Wi-Fi. If it works there but not on PS4, focus on the console, app, or its network settings.
- Try a phone over cellular data, if available. If Crunchyroll works on cellular but not on your home network, the router, ISP, DNS, or filtering is a stronger possibility.
- Try another show or episode. If only one title fails, it may be a content or regional availability issue rather than a full service outage; availability can vary by country or region. Crunchyroll’s loading troubleshooting guidance also recommends testing another device or browser.
Fixes to try on the PS4
1. Fully close the app and restart the console
Press the PS button, choose Power > Turn Off PS4, and wait until the console’s light stops blinking. Do not use Rest Mode as a substitute for a full shutdown. Crunchyroll recommends a complete shutdown and power cycle for PlayStation playback problems.
2. Power-cycle the PS4
- Turn off the PS4 completely.
- Unplug its power cable and wait 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the cable, start the console, and open Crunchyroll.

3. Update the Crunchyroll app
- Highlight Crunchyroll on the PS4 home screen.
- Press Options and select Check for Update.
- Install an available update, then relaunch the app.

Open Settings > System > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software and install an available update. Crunchyroll lists PS4 as supported and specifies system software version 10.008 as the minimum. Check the installed version before treating the app as unsupported; the current requirements are on its supported-devices page.

5. Sign out and sign back in
If the app opens but cannot load your account or content, sign out and sign in again. Then test another title and, where available, both dubbed and subtitled playback. This helps distinguish a session or title-specific problem from a broader connection failure.
Advanced fixes if the basic steps fail
Reinstall Crunchyroll
- Highlight Crunchyroll, press Options, and select Delete.
- Restart the PS4.
- Open PlayStation Store, search for Crunchyroll, and select Download.
- Launch the app and sign in again.
Reinstallation is an official troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix. You may need to log in again. Crunchyroll’s PlayStation guide explains how to install the app.

Restart the router or test another network
Unplug the router or modem, wait 10–30 seconds, reconnect it, and wait for internet access to return before testing again. If possible, connect the PS4 temporarily to a phone hotspot. A successful hotspot test points toward the home router, ISP, DNS, or filtering; a failure there does not prove an outage, but makes a home-network-only cause less likely. Hotspot use may consume mobile data.
Change DNS only as a later test
Crunchyroll lists Cloudflare and Google Public DNS options in its connectivity guidance. Changing DNS may help with name-resolution or routing problems; it will not fix a Crunchyroll outage, account failure, damaged installation, or outdated console software.

To enter a DNS address, go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection, choose Wi-Fi or LAN, then select Custom. Use Automatic for IP Address Settings, Do Not Specify for DHCP Host Name, Manual for DNS Settings, Automatic for MTU Settings, and Do Not Use for Proxy Server. Save, then turn off and disconnect the PS4 for 30 seconds before restarting and testing. Note your original settings first; if this makes connectivity worse, restore automatic DNS.

When to contact Crunchyroll Support
If the problem persists after testing another title, device, and network and trying the relevant PS4 steps, contact Crunchyroll Support. Include the details its PlayStation troubleshooting guidance requests:
- PS4 model, system software version, and Crunchyroll app version.
- Your country or region.
- Whether all shows fail or only particular titles or episodes, and whether dubbed or subtitled playback is affected.
- The exact error wording and a screenshot or video if possible.
- Which troubleshooting steps you have already tried.
If you need to watch while the PS4 app is failing, use another supported device you already own, such as a supported browser, mobile device, TV platform, or console. A working alternative is a workaround, not proof that the PS4 hardware is defective; this evidence does not justify buying a replacement device on its own.
