Wireless headphones offered Mosman Park’s Camelot Outdoor Cinema a way to reopen after noise complaints and new restrictions made its conventional outdoor speakers impractical. The February 2024 comeback plan put headphones on every patron, launched with Maestro, and kept the heritage venue operating as a cinema without broadcasting sound across neighbouring properties.
Current status: Camelot now operates under the broader Camelot Arts Club identity, which still promotes outdoor film alongside music and community events. Its page titled “2026 Film Program” visibly contains numerous listings dated 2025, so treat it as evidence of the venue’s continuing film activity—not confirmation of a specific August 2026 session. Check the individual event listing or contact the venue before travelling.
The cinema that nearly disappeared
Camelot Outdoor Cinema had been part of Mosman Park’s cultural life for almost three decades. Luna Palace Cinemas had run the outdoor season for 22 years and was preparing its 23rd when complaints from several neighbours, followed by newly implemented noise restrictions, disrupted the speaker-based format. Luna Palace withdrew, leaving the future of screenings uncertain.
The prospect of the heritage-listed Memorial Hall no longer functioning as a cinema prompted local support. PerthNow reported that a petition seeking the cinema’s return attracted more than 5,000 signatures. That figure is attributed to the February 8, 2024 report rather than independently audited here.

Why headphones became the solution
The proposed fix was straightforward: replace outdoor speakers with wireless, noise-cancelling headphones issued at the entrance. Each viewer can set a personal listening level, while the neighbourhood hears far less of the soundtrack. The concept resembles a silent-disco system, but the films themselves are ordinary talking pictures—not silent-era movies.

Richard Evans, general manager of the Perth International Jazz Festival, said headphones could make screenings more immersive and reduce distractions such as wind, traffic and nearby activity. That is an organiser’s assessment, not an independently measured acoustic comparison.
- For residents: less sound spill than a high-volume speaker array.
- For viewers: individual volume control and potentially clearer dialogue in an open-air setting.
- Trade-offs: the shared speaker field—and the way audiences naturally hear one another’s reactions—is reduced. Headsets also have to be distributed, maintained, charged and kept comfortable.
The 2024 report used the “noise-cancelling” description. The venue’s current FAQ confirms that headphones remain compulsory for outdoor screenings and are supplied at entry, with adjustable volume, but does not repeat every technical specification.

Who organised the return?
The Perth International Jazz Festival had recently become the hall’s tenant. Evans acknowledged that running a cinema was outside the organisation’s normal expertise, but argued that restoring it mattered to the community. The Town of Mosman Park supported the effort, Perth Festival artistic director Iain Grandage donated a specialised projector, and Artrage—the producer associated with Fringe World and Rooftop Movies—helped with programming.
The plan was larger than a single season: the festival intended to develop the hall as an intimate live-music venue and stage music-and-film festivals as well as screenings.

Those titles and dates describe the relaunch announced in 2024. They are not evidence of the current 2026 schedule.
Camelot Arts Club today
The venue now presents itself as Camelot Arts Club, an arts and culture hub combining an outdoor cinema, live music, art studios, community events and venue hire. That broader identity is the longer-term development foreshadowed when the cinema returned.

The site’s “2026 Film Program” page promotes the Camelot Film Festival, but the visible entries include a December 2025 Christmas program and February–April 2025 events. Until a dated 2026 event is confirmed on the venue’s own listing, do not assume a particular film, date, price or session is available.
What to expect at a screening
The current Camelot Arts Club FAQ gives visitors the following practical information:
- Arrival: doors are stated to open at 6:00pm and screenings at 7:30pm, although an individual event may vary.
- Headphones: collect the venue-supplied headset at entry; outdoor use requires headphones, and volume is adjustable.
- Seating: inflatable chairs and beanbags are first come, first served. You may bring a chair, cushion or blanket. The venue warns that it can become chilly after sunset.
- Food and drink: fresh pizzas and a bar are available. BYO food is permitted; BYO alcohol is not.
- Tickets: advance booking is encouraged. Limited door sales may exist but are not guaranteed. Purchases are generally non-refundable and non-exchangeable unless the venue cancels the session.
- Age and identification: bring valid identification where required. Under-18s must attend with a parent, guardian or responsible adult.
Getting there
- Address: Memorial Hall, 16 Lochee Street, Mosman Park, WA 6012.
- Parking: on-street parking is available nearby, with a dedicated car park on Solomon Street behind the Camelot building.
- Public transport: Mosman Park train station is less than a 10-minute walk away. Bus route 107 runs along Victoria Street; the FAQ identifies stops 19648 and 19642.
Weather and comfort
Outdoor conditions can change after sunset. Take warm layers and a blanket, and check the specific event information before leaving in rain or strong wind. The available FAQ does not set out a complete weather-cancellation policy.

Headphones address neighbourhood sound, but they also raise accessibility and operations questions that the available pages do not resolve. The venue has not publicly established in these sources whether it offers captions or open captions, hearing-loop support, compatibility with hearing aids, alternative audio access, guaranteed wheelchair seating, or a formal accessibility policy. Contact Camelot directly about those needs before booking.
Nor is there an independently documented assessment of resident noise levels, long-term attendance, headset maintenance, battery reliability or the financial sustainability of the model. The evidence shows an announced relaunch and a venue that continues to promote film; it does not prove that every original noise dispute has permanently disappeared.
