For a podcast, “copyright-free music” usually means music you can use under a license that fits your episode, not music with no copyright. Some options below describe their tracks as royalty-free or commercially usable; others require paid plans or tell you to check their terms. Before publishing, confirm the license covers your use, keep the relevant plan and track records, and get consent for any voice, cover, or sample you supply. A product’s general licensing statement does not settle every use case.

What Podcast Music Needs To Do

Podcast music has a different job from a full song: it must establish a show’s identity without masking speech. An intro needs room for the host’s first words; an outro can resolve more clearly; a transition should be brief; and a recurring bed should stay unobtrusive beneath dialogue. For spoken-word episodes, instrumental music is often easier to mix because it avoids competing lyrics, but the listed services do not all establish that they can generate a specific arrangement or duration.

Use a prompt that describes the placement and the space your voice needs. For example: “Instrumental podcast intro, warm investigative documentary mood, restrained pulse, no vocals, leave the midrange clear for narration, concise opening with a clean ending.” For an interview bed: “Quiet, steady instrumental bed for spoken interviews, minimal changes, no vocals, soft texture, avoid a dramatic build.” These are prompt examples, not guaranteed product controls. Check each service for support of the requested length, instrumentation, tempo, export format, and editing before committing to a workflow.

Podcast Music Options And What Their Evidence Establishes

The table distinguishes explicit podcast use or podcast-specific guidance from more limited product information. “Rights note” summarizes only the stated evidence; it is not a substitute for reading the current license and plan terms.

Free use has public songs, streaming-only playback, and no downloads.
OpenMusic AI Its site describes background music for episodes; the browser-based studio also offers generation and editing tools. Notagen AI Background Music Generator Its page describes a podcast bed designed to leave the midrange for voice and says tracks can be downloaded. It says each generation returns two complete tracks that loop cleanly and are royalty-free. The supplied details do not establish commercial-use terms or plan limits; check the vendor’s site.

How To Make A Track That Sits Under Speech

  1. Choose the placement first. Decide whether you need a signature intro, a transition sting, an outro, or a repeating bed. A single prompt for “podcast music” may not distinguish those jobs.
  2. Describe the voice space. Specify instrumental or no vocals if needed, restrained energy, and that narration should remain clear. Name a mood and broad sound palette rather than asking for a complex song structure.
  3. Generate for one use at a time. Make a separate intro and bed brief so a strong opening flourish does not become distracting when looped beneath a long conversation. Do not assume the service supports seamless looping unless its page says so.
  4. Listen with speech in the mix. Put the candidate under actual dialogue on headphones and a phone speaker. If music competes with consonants or draws attention between sentences, simplify the brief or choose a less busy candidate.
  5. Check duration, file, and license before editing the episode. Confirm that the track can be downloaded in a format your editor accepts, that its length fits your cut, and that your plan permits the intended release and monetization. Where a feature or right is not established above, verify it directly with the service.
  6. Keep a record. Save the downloaded file, the service and plan used, the date, and the applicable license or certificate. This helps you identify which terms applied to the music in a published episode.

Rights Checks Before You Publish

“Royalty-free” does not mean “copyright-free,” public domain, or unrestricted. It generally signals a licensing arrangement, and the exact permission depends on the service’s terms and, in some cases, the plan. Do not infer commercial permission from the ability to generate or download a track. This matters especially for free tiers: Suno, Songin.ai, and PlayItOut explicitly distinguish free use from commercial rights, while Sunp directs commercial publishing to paid plans.

If you upload a voice, sample, or reference recording, make sure you have permission to use it and check the service’s terms for that material. For generated vocals, voice cloning, covers, or other recognizable material, check both consent and platform terms before release. The available product information does not establish clearance for every source recording, voice, or resemblance. If a specific right or restriction is not stated here, check the vendor’s current terms rather than assuming.
