Samsung and Disney launched downloadable Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse AR Emoji for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ on March 16, 2018. The animated characters tracked a user’s facial movement and could be recorded in photos or videos. “Masks” is an informal description: Samsung called them Disney AR Emoji.
What were the Mickey and Minnie AR Emoji?
They were downloadable character avatars inside the Galaxy S9 camera’s AR Emoji feature, not a separate app or a conventional emoji keyboard. Samsung described AR Emoji as using facial recognition and deep-learning technology to map more than 100 facial features; that figure is Samsung’s description of its system, not an independent performance measurement. The characters followed facial movements and viewing angle, so the result was an animated Mickey or Minnie representation of the person in front of the camera. Samsung’s March 2018 announcement introduced the partnership and the first two characters.
Which phones were supported at launch?
The original March 16, 2018 release named the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. That launch announcement does not establish support for every later Galaxy phone. Samsung subsequently announced additional Disney character packs and later device availability, but compatibility depends on the particular device and pack.
How users downloaded the pack

- Open the Camera app and switch to the front-facing camera.
- Tap AR EMOJI, then tap the plus (+) button.
- Select the Mickey Mouse and Friends sticker pack. The phone opens its Galaxy Apps or Galaxy Store listing.
- Tap DOWNLOAD and wait for the pack to install.
- Press the Back button twice to return to the Camera preview, then tap the Mickey Mouse icon.
- Choose Mickey or Minnie and use the photo shutter or video-record button.
Menu names and availability may differ with software version or region. The guide explains the original installation flow; it does not confirm that the pack can still be downloaded in 2026.
Photos, videos and sharing
Users could capture still images or record videos with the animated character. The resulting media could be sent through messaging apps; later Samsung material also describes GIF sharing. Whether animation remains intact depends on the receiving app: Samsung notes that an app without animated-GIF support may receive a still image. Recipients do not need AR Emoji themselves to view an exported image or video. Samsung’s later Zootopia announcement describes sharing and this compatibility limitation.

Is the pack still available?
The launch is historical, and the available Samsung documentation does not establish that the original Mickey and Minnie pack remains listed in the Galaxy Store in 2026. If the pack does not appear under the Camera app’s AR Emoji plus menu on a compatible S9-series phone, possible practical causes include delisting, regional catalog differences, software or component compatibility, or a changed store interface. Those are troubleshooting possibilities, not documented reasons for any particular user’s missing pack. A phone that supports AR Emoji generally is not thereby guaranteed to offer this Disney download.

Contemporary coverage described the original add-on as free to download, though Samsung’s announcement confirms download access without stating a price. Droid Life’s March 16, 2018 report characterized it as free; that does not establish the pricing or availability of later packs.
