Some creators whose YouTube channels were terminated can ask for permission to start a new channel—but this is a limited, discretionary pilot, not a general unban. Announced on October 9, 2025, the program requires at least one year to pass after termination. Approval does not restore the old channel, its subscribers or its monetization. YouTube’s Help Center still describes access as a gradual rollout, so an eligible creator may not yet see the request option.
What YouTube’s “second chance” program does
YouTube’s program gives some previously terminated creators a way to request permission to create a new channel. It does not reverse the original termination or reinstate the old channel. YouTube announced the pilot on October 9, 2025, saying eligible creators would receive access gradually. The current Help Center guidance continues to describe it as a gradual pilot.
The distinction matters because YouTube generally prohibits a terminated creator from creating, acquiring or using other channels to get around the termination. The pilot is a specific, permission-based route—not a blanket right to open a replacement account. Until YouTube approves a request, do not assume that creating or operating another channel is allowed.
Who may be considered?
YouTube does not publish a complete eligibility checklist or promise approval to anyone who has waited a year. The one-year period is a minimum wait before a creator may request a new channel, not a guarantee that the request will be available or accepted.

YouTube says it considers the circumstances of each case, including the severity and persistence of past violations and whether the creator’s conduct on or off YouTube harmed—or could continue to harm—the community. Safety concerns, including risks to children, may also matter. The company has not published a scoring formula or a category-by-category list that would let creators predict the outcome.
Two exclusions are explicit in YouTube’s current guidance: creators terminated for copyright infringement and creators who violated YouTube’s Creator Responsibility policies are not eligible for this program. YouTube’s policy pages should be checked for the scope of those categories; the second-chance page does not provide a complete table matching every possible termination reason to eligibility. A creator should not assume that a particular type of violation—such as misinformation, harassment or spam—automatically qualifies or disqualifies them without reviewing the applicable policy and termination notice.

Creators who deleted their YouTube channel or Google account currently cannot see the request option. And because the pilot is rolling out gradually, not seeing the option does not by itself explain whether a creator is excluded or simply has not received access yet.

How to request a new channel
- Wait until at least one year has passed from the date the channel was terminated.
- On a desktop computer, sign in to YouTube Studio using the account associated with the terminated channel.
- Look for the “Request new channel” option.
- If it appears, submit the request and monitor the email address associated with the terminated channel for YouTube’s decision.
The option may not appear even after the year has passed: the pilot is gradual, and other eligibility limits apply. Checking from the mobile app is not the documented application path. Also, being able to create a channel through a Google account is not the same as receiving approval under this program; look for the specific request and decision from YouTube.

Appeal or request a second chance?
These routes solve different problems. An appeal challenges whether the original termination was correct. A second-chance request asks to start over after the waiting period. YouTube says creators can appeal during the year after termination; a successful appeal may restore the original channel. If the appeal fails, a creator may later be able to request a new channel if otherwise eligible. See YouTube’s announcement for its explanation of the two paths.

If you believe YouTube made a mistake, an appeal is the route aimed at restoring the original channel. The second-chance pilot is not a substitute for that challenge.

Approval allows a creator to start a fresh channel. It does not bring back the terminated channel’s subscribers, views, watch time, comments, memberships, URL, identity or monetization status. The creator must rebuild their presence and audience from scratch.

An approved creator may apply to the YouTube Partner Program once the new channel meets YPP’s requirements. Approval under the second-chance program does not itself grant monetization or guarantee acceptance. Check YouTube’s current YPP overview for the applicable requirements.
If the request option is missing or the request is denied
If “Request new channel” is not visible, check the practical conditions first: has a full year passed, are you using desktop Studio, does the relevant account still exist, and was the termination in an excluded category? If those do not explain it, the gradual rollout may be the reason. YouTube’s public guidance does not provide a full troubleshooting process for missing access.
YouTube’s published second-chance guidance also does not set out a detailed appeal or reconsideration procedure for a denied request. Keep the termination notice and any appeal records, review the policies cited in the original decision, and use official YouTube support channels for any follow-up available to you. Do not try to work around the decision by opening or operating another channel without authorization; that could be treated as circumvention.

Why YouTube says it is offering another route
YouTube’s stated explanation is that its policies and enforcement standards have evolved over the platform’s history, and that some creators may deserve another opportunity. The company also says creators have asked for more options to return. That is YouTube’s rationale, not proof that every older termination is now considered mistaken or that any particular creator will be approved.
The broader policy trade-off is clear: a fresh-start route can recognize that rules and circumstances change, while individual review and exclusions preserve a way to keep serious or persistent risks out of the program. For creators, the practical question is not whether the pilot erases a ban; it is whether YouTube will authorize a new channel in their specific case.
