Viki’s official way to watch videos offline with subtitles is the in-app Offline Viewing feature. It works on supported Android and iPhone/iPad apps for Viki Pass Plus subscribers and viewers who bought eligible rentals. The result is a temporary, DRM-protected download that plays inside Viki—not a permanent MP4 or separate subtitle file.
To include subtitles, choose your preferred subtitle language before downloading and confirm that the episode shows Viki’s download icon. Subtitle availability and completion vary by title, language and licensing.
What you need before downloading
- A Viki account signed in on the official mobile app.
- Viki Pass Plus, or an eligible purchased rental.
- The Android app version 9.0 or later, or the iOS app version 15.0 or later, according to Viki’s Offline Viewing instructions.
- An internet connection for the initial download and enough device storage.
- A title with the download icon. Streaming access alone does not guarantee offline eligibility.
- The subtitle language you want available for that specific episode or movie.
Free, ad-supported viewing does not automatically include downloads. Viki Pass Standard is not identified as an Offline Viewing plan on Viki’s current help page. Plan availability and features can vary by territory; check the current Viki Pass page rather than relying on an old price or plan list.
Viki Pass also does not remove geographic restrictions. A title can remain unavailable in your region even when you have a subscription (Viki’s regional-access explanation).

How to download a Viki episode with subtitles
- Install or update the official Viki app on your Android or iOS device.
- Sign in to the account with Viki Pass Plus or the eligible rental purchase.
- Open the show, movie or individual episode you want to watch.
- Start the player while online, open the subtitle menu and select your preferred language. Viki documents subtitle controls here.
- Check the episode or title page for the download icon. If it is absent, that title is not currently offered for offline viewing on that account and device.
- Tap the download icon and wait until the download finishes. Keep the device connected to the internet and avoid closing the app if the transfer is still queued.
- Repeat for each additional episode. Viki permits multiple videos to download at the same time but does not provide a single-button whole-series download.
How subtitles work in an offline download
Viki says an offline copy uses the selected default subtitle language and the completion state available when you download it. “With subtitles” therefore does not mean that every language is embedded or that translation is complete.
- Community contributors may not have completed every subtitle track.
- Licensing can limit a title to English subtitles or another specific language. See Viki’s explanation of English-only subtitle availability at this support page.
- A language visible during streaming may not be included in an older offline copy.
- When Viki revises subtitles, the existing download does not update automatically. Delete it and download the episode again after selecting the desired language.
Before a trip, play each episode online briefly, verify the language and completion percentage, then check the finished copy in the Download tab.
Where to find downloaded Viki videos
Open the Viki app and tap Download in the bottom navigation. Select the episode or movie there to play it offline. Downloads are app-managed data protected by Viki’s DRM; they are not intended to appear as ordinary videos in your phone’s file manager.
Why this is not a normal MP4 download
Viki’s documentation describes temporary, DRM-supported offline viewing on compatible devices, not an export function. There is no official process for saving an MP4, MKV or standalone SRT file, opening the result in VLC, or transferring it as a normal media file.

Viki’s official instructions specify Android and iOS apps, not desktop browser downloads. A browser downloader, screen recorder, developer-tools extraction or DRM-removal utility is not the supported Viki workflow, may fail because of DRM, and can conflict with rights or platform rules. Viki’s community policy also prohibits downloading copyrighted material or posting methods for doing so (community policy).
Limits, expiry and device changes
One authorized mobile device
Offline Viewing is limited to one authorized mobile device per account. Choose the phone or tablet you will actually take with you; downloads should not be assumed to transfer when you change devices.
Temporary availability
Viki says downloads remain available only for a limited time. The service can require a title to be downloaded again, and content may be removed when licensing or account conditions change. Viki’s Terms of Use, updated April 8, 2026, describe temporary downloads subject to changing limitations. Do not treat an offline copy as permanent ownership.

Rental timing
Eligible rentals have stricter clocks. Viki says the rental period starts when you download the movie or begin playback, whichever comes first. You have 30 days to start watching and 48 hours to finish after playback begins. Offline rental downloads are offered only in select regions, including select users in the United States and Canada (rental rules). Do not download a rental far in advance of your planned viewing.

App deletion and migration
Viki does not promise that downloads survive app deletion, account changes or device migration. Treat them as temporary app data; uninstalling the app or clearing its data can make you lose access to the stored copies.
Why the download button is missing
If the icon does not appear, Viki’s practical guidance is that the title may not be downloadable. Check these causes:
- Your account lacks Viki Pass Plus or an eligible rental.
- The specific show, episode or movie is excluded by its license.
- The title is blocked in your region.
- You are using a desktop browser, TV app or casting interface rather than the supported mobile app.
- The app or operating system is below the documented Android 9.0 or iOS 15.0 requirement.
- Another mobile device is already authorized for Offline Viewing.
- The app is outdated or the account session needs refreshing.
Update the app, sign out and back in, verify the subscription or purchase, and check another eligible title. If the icon still does not appear, contact Viki Support; a subscription cannot override a title-specific licensing restriction.
When subtitles are missing after download
- Reconnect to the internet and open the title in the Viki app.
- Open the subtitle menu and confirm that the language is offered for that episode.
- Check whether the subtitle track is only partially complete.
- Confirm that language was selected before the download began.
- Delete the offline copy and download it again to capture later subtitle revisions.
- Update the app, restart the device, and sign in again if the Download tab is stale.
- Contact Viki if streaming shows an available language that still cannot be selected in offline playback.
A missing or incomplete track is often a licensing or contributor-completion issue rather than a failed download. A Viki Pass subscription does not guarantee every language for every title.

When offline playback fails
- Open Viki online before traveling so the app can verify the account and download status.
- Confirm the copy finished downloading rather than remaining queued.
- Check that it has not expired and that you are signed in to the purchasing account.
- Restart the device and update the app.
- Check whether the title was removed or its license changed.
- Avoid clearing app data or uninstalling Viki unless you are prepared to lose stored downloads.
On Android, a black screen with subtitles and audio can indicate a device DRM compatibility problem. Viki recommends updating the phone, restarting it or trying another device (Android DRM troubleshooting).

Choose Pass Plus only if official, temporary mobile offline access fits your needs. If you want a permanent file, desktop playback, multiple download devices or a language unavailable for the title, Viki’s supported feature will not provide that outcome.
Can Viki download an entire season?
Not with one command. Download episodes individually, or queue several at once, then verify every intended episode in the Download tab before going offline.

Viki’s documented Offline Viewing workflow is for supported Android and iOS apps. Desktop browser viewing is streaming, and Viki does not document an official browser-to-MP4 or subtitle-file export.

Can you change subtitle languages while offline?
Download with the desired default language already selected. Because the offline copy reflects the language and completion state at download time, reconnect and re-download after changing language preferences or after subtitle updates.
Can Viki downloads be moved to an SD card or played in VLC?
Viki describes DRM-protected, app-only temporary downloads, not transferable media files. The official workflow does not provide SD-card export, VLC playback or standalone subtitle files.
