Amazon Prime no longer makes all of Twitch ad-free. Twitch ended universal Prime ad-free viewing for new members on September 14, 2018; legacy monthly members kept it until October 15, 2018, while eligible annual members kept it until renewal. Today, use Twitch Turbo for the broadest official reduction in Twitch-served ads, or use your included Prime channel subscription on one favorite channel if that creator offers subscriber ad-free viewing.
Why Twitch Prime stopped removing ads
The old advice to link Amazon Prime to Twitch for sitewide ad-free viewing is outdated. Twitch removed that universal benefit in 2018, while retaining the monthly channel subscription and other Prime benefits. “Twitch Prime” was later renamed “Prime Gaming,” and Amazon’s gaming pages now also emphasize Luna in some markets. The relevant benefit here is still the included subscription token for one eligible Twitch channel—not an ad-free Twitch account.
Prime subscription availability and benefits vary by country and membership type. A Prime trial may have different eligibility rules from a paid membership.

Best official option for ads across Twitch: Twitch Turbo
Twitch Turbo is a separate, recurring subscription designed to remove most Twitch-served video and banner ads across the service. Buy it at twitch.tv/turbo or through Twitch’s Get Ad-Free control.
- Coverage: Broad protection while watching channels across Twitch.
- Price: Twitch uses local pricing in many regions. Where local pricing is unavailable, its support page lists a web fallback of $11.99 USD per month. Check the live checkout screen because currency, tax, mobile-platform pricing, promotions and eligibility can change.
- Trial: A seven-day trial may be offered with a valid payment method; it is not guaranteed for every account or region.
- Extra benefits: Turbo includes a badge, emotes, chat-color customization and extended VOD storage.
“Ad-free” does not mean that every commercial message disappears. Turbo does not remove channel sponsorships, streamer-read promotions, branded segments, streamer-enabled promotions, or all Twitch-promoted content on pages outside the channel itself.

Turbo is usually the best fit if you watch many channels. It may be poor value if you mainly watch one creator or want your money directed specifically to that creator.
Use the Prime subscription on one channel
Amazon Prime (formerly Twitch Prime, later Prime Gaming) generally includes one channel subscription token each month where the benefit is available. That subscription can provide ad-free viewing on that channel only if the creator has enabled subscriber ad-free viewing. It does not protect you while watching other channels.

How to claim it
- Sign in to Twitch and open the channel you want to support.
- Select Subscribe.
- Choose the option to use your Prime subscription, if shown.
- Confirm the subscription.
- Review the channel’s subscription benefits or ask the creator whether subscriber ad-free viewing is enabled.
Amazon and Twitch accounts may need to be linked first. The token generally must be claimed manually each month and does not automatically renew.
If the Prime option is missing
- Confirm that the Amazon account linked to Twitch is the one with the active Prime membership.
- Check that you have not already used the monthly token.
- Verify regional and membership eligibility.
- Try the standard Twitch website rather than an embedded player or alternate client.
- Ensure the channel is monetized and accepting subscriptions.
Claiming the subscription does not guarantee ad removal: the creator controls whether subscribers receive that perk.

A normal paid subscription can include ad-free viewing when the creator enables it, but it is not automatically ad-free on every channel and is not a substitute for Turbo’s broader coverage.
Why ads or promotions may still appear with Turbo
First distinguish a Twitch-served ad from a sponsorship. A streamer can display a sponsored overlay, read an advertisement, or run a branded segment while Turbo is working normally. Turbo can also leave Twitch-promoted content on non-channel pages.

Turbo is active but you still see Twitch ads
- Refresh the Twitch page.
- Sign out and back in to the correct Twitch account.
- Open your Turbo subscriptions page and verify that Turbo is active.
- Check for Turbo indicators such as the Turbo badge or expanded emotes.
- Use Twitch’s standard video player, not an alternate player or embedded version.
- Temporarily disable browser extensions and add-ons.
- Try another browser.
- Update or restart the Twitch mobile or desktop app.
- If the problem remains, contact Twitch Support, state that Turbo is active, and list the steps you completed.
An expired subscription is only one possibility. Entitlement-refresh failures, extensions, browser behavior and unsupported players can also interfere with ad status.
Should you use an ad blocker?
Ad blockers are an unstable secondary workaround, not an equivalent to Twitch’s official products. Twitch changes ad delivery, and extensions can break playback, login state, chat or entitlement detection. Twitch’s own Turbo troubleshooting recommends disabling third-party extensions while diagnosing unexpected ads. No particular blocker, DNS service, script or alternate player can be promised as a durable solution.

Bottom line
If you move among many Twitch channels, Twitch Turbo is the direct official choice for removing most Twitch video and banner ads. If you mainly watch one creator, claim your included Prime channel subscription—or buy that channel’s subscription—provided the creator has enabled subscriber ad-free viewing. Neither option removes every sponsorship or promotional message, and Amazon Prime alone is not sitewide Twitch ad-free.
