You can’t currently unfollow everyone on TikTok with one standard, documented command. The supported approach is to unfollow accounts one by one, either from your Following list or from each person’s profile. For a long list, work in sessions and pause if TikTok stops accepting actions; avoid apps or scripts that promise to automate the cleanup.
How to unfollow accounts on TikTok
The quickest place to review accounts you follow is your profile’s Following list. The exact layout can vary by app version, device, and region.
- Open TikTok and tap Profile.
- Tap your Following count or section to open the list.
- Tap Following beside an account you want to unfollow.
- Check that the button changes to Follow, if that state is shown.
- Repeat for each account you want to remove.
TikTok’s documented method is to open a person’s profile and tap Following. If the list control is missing or not responding, visit the individual profile and use that method instead.

TikTok’s standard interface does not currently document or offer a bulk-unfollow or “select all” control. Its individual unfollow instructions describe removing follows one account at a time. A TikTok Shop explainer also describes individual unfollowing, but labels its information AI-generated, so it should not be treated as definitive policy documentation. Features can change; check the current app, but don’t assume a third-party tool is an official shortcut.

Clearing a large following list safely
- Work in manageable sessions. There is no verified official daily unfollow quota, so claims that a specific number is safe should be treated cautiously.
- Keep a record of accounts you may want back. A short note or screenshot can help you find them later.
- Verify that changes stick. Check that the button reads Follow or that the account no longer appears as followed.
- Stop if TikTok objects. If you see an error, verification prompt, temporary restriction, or buttons stop responding, pause and resume later through TikTok itself.
Trying to tap through a very long list as fast as possible is not a reliable way around interface delays or security checks.
What happens when you unfollow someone?
Unfollowing changes your follow relationship; it is not the same as blocking someone or removing them from your followers. TikTok says a creator’s posts may no longer appear in your Following feed or Friends tab after you unfollow them. The action does not delete your own videos or automatically undo likes you previously gave.

It also does not guarantee that you will never see that creator again. Their posts or related content may still reach you through recommendations, search, reposts, or other accounts. TikTok’s recommendation explanation describes multiple signals, including follows, profile visits, likes, shares, comments, watch behavior, and skips.
TikTok’s documented unfollow instructions do not describe a direct notification to the person being unfollowed. Still, they may notice later if they check the relationship. That is different from a notification triggered by a separate action, such as following again, liking, or commenting.

Will unfollowing everyone reset your For You feed?
No—not reliably. Unfollowing can change your Following feed and may affect the Friends tab, but TikTok describes the For You feed as drawing on more than your follow list. Clearing follows is not a guaranteed algorithm reset.
If your goal is to see different recommendations, use TikTok’s available feed controls as well: mark unwanted videos Not interested, adjust Manage topics where available, filter recurring terms with Filter keywords, and stop engaging with material you no longer want recommended. Follow and interact with creators and topics you do want to see.

Unfollow, mute, remove follower, or block?

TikTok treats these as separate controls; see its Help Center guidance on blocking and related account controls. If you have a private account, unfollowing someone does not necessarily remove them from your followers list—manage that list separately if privacy is the goal.

Why mass-unfollow apps and scripts are risky
Third-party apps, browser extensions, and scripts that automate follows or unfollows are not TikTok features. TikTok’s U.S. Terms of Service, updated July 15, 2026, prohibit unauthorized automated systems from interacting with the platform and prohibit automated extraction such as scraping. TikTok’s privacy and security guidelines also warn against unauthorized methods, automated scripts, and phishing.

Using an unofficial mass-action tool can expose account credentials or session access, cause unintended unfollows, stop working after an interface change, or lead to account restrictions. A tool claiming to run locally is not automatically authorized or safe. Don’t enter your TikTok password into an unverified service or use software that promises to bypass TikTok’s controls. The safest option is the normal app interface.
If TikTok won’t let you unfollow
- Confirm whether the button changed from Following to Follow.
- Refresh the list or profile and check again; visible counts may take time to update.
- Check your connection, then close and reopen TikTok.
- Update the app through your device’s official app store.
- Avoid repeatedly tapping if the action looks delayed. If TikTok shows an error or asks for verification, stop and follow the in-app prompt.
- If it still fails, wait and try again later. If the problem persists, report it through TikTok’s in-app support flow.
TikTok’s reviewed material does not give a fixed number of unfollows allowed per day. Don’t rely on an alleged quota as a workaround for a restriction.
Is deleting your account a shortcut?
Creating a new account avoids carrying over the old following list, but it is not a way to unfollow while keeping the existing account. Deletion can disrupt or remove access to videos, account history, followers, messages, settings, username continuity, and account-specific features. TikTok’s U.S. terms say that after deletion you will not be able to reactivate the account or retrieve content or information you added. Treat deletion as a last resort, not a follow-list cleanup method; review TikTok’s current account deletion guidance and back up anything important before proceeding.

TikTok’s web interface may not expose the same controls as its mobile app, and there is no documented desktop bulk-unfollow method. If you can’t find a following list or unfollow control on desktop, use the current TikTok app rather than an extension or script.
