For a Netflix subscription billed directly by Netflix, sign in at Netflix.com/payment in a web browser, open Manage payment info, then choose Update beside your current method or add a new one. Save the details and confirm they appear on your account. If Apple, a mobile carrier, or another package provider bills you, you may need to change payment details with that provider instead.
Change your Netflix payment method in a browser
- Go to Netflix.com/payment and sign in. You can also select your profile icon, choose Account, then open Manage payment info.
- To edit the method already saved, select Update beside it. To add a different method, choose Add Payment Method or the equivalent Change payment method option if that is what your account shows.
- Enter the requested details and save the change.
- Return to Manage payment info and check that the new method is listed. If you were resolving a failed payment, also check whether the account hold has cleared; saving a card and successfully collecting a payment are separate steps.
Netflix’s account controls can vary by billing arrangement and country, so labels may differ. Netflix generally does not let members manage payment methods in its app; use a browser instead. Netflix identifies the app downloaded from the Samsung Galaxy Store as an exception. Netflix’s payment-method instructions explain the current options.

Choose which method Netflix tries first
If your account supports multiple payment methods, the one marked Preferred is tried first. To change it, open Manage payment info, select the three-dot menu beside the desired method, and choose Make Preferred. Netflix may try eligible backup methods if the preferred method is declined, but multiple methods and backup billing are not available for every account or country.

To remove a saved method, open its three-dot menu and select Remove, or use the delete control shown on the page. Netflix normally will not let you remove the only payment method on the account, so add and save a replacement first. Some third-party methods may also have to be changed or removed through the billing partner. Netflix says a removed method will not be charged unless it is added to the account again. If Apple bills your Netflix subscription
Check Membership and Billing on your Netflix Account page to see whether Apple is listed. If Apple controls the subscription, changing a card on Netflix may not change the payment method Apple uses. Manage the billing through Apple, or follow Netflix’s instructions for ending Apple billing and rejoining with another method.
Netflix billing through Apple is unavailable to most new or returning members, though some existing Apple-billed members in select countries may be asked to add a new method. If you want to move to direct Netflix billing, you may need to cancel through Apple and wait until the current billing period ends before rejoining. Netflix also says members who switched from Apple billing to another payment method after October 25, 2021, must cancel the Netflix subscription through Apple to prevent future Apple charges. Gift cards cannot currently be redeemed on an Apple-billed account; Netflix describes the cancellation and restart steps in its Apple billing guidance.

If Netflix comes with a phone, cable, or other package
A mobile carrier, cable or internet provider, app store, or other partner may control your Netflix billing. Check Membership and Billing on the Account page for the billing provider. If a partner is listed, update payment details or resolve a declined payment in that provider’s account, not by repeatedly changing a card on Netflix. If the package was canceled, you may need to rejoin or relink Netflix; depending on the arrangement, you might instead add a payment method directly to Netflix. Using a Netflix gift card
Gift-card availability and eligibility depend on country and account setup. Where applicable, a redeemed gift-card balance is used before Netflix charges the preferred payment method. It may not work with every partner arrangement, and it cannot be redeemed on an Apple-billed account unless you end Apple billing, wait for the current period to finish, and restart Netflix using the gift card. Check Netflix’s payment-method guidance before relying on a gift card as a replacement.

Fix a declined payment or account-on-hold message
- Open Netflix’s payment page and update the existing method or add another one.
- Check the card number, expiration date, security code, billing address, and any requested postal or ZIP code against the bank’s records. In the United States, a ZIP-code mismatch can cause a payment to fail.
- Ask the issuer whether recurring billing, online purchases, international transactions, or a fraud-control block is preventing the charge. A card may also be unsupported for Netflix payments in your territory; acceptance depends on country, issuer, card type, and available payment options.
- After saving, refresh the page or go back and reload if the old error remains. Netflix may retry a failed payment during the billing cycle, but it does not promise a specific retry time. If the charge still fails, try another payment option available to your account.
- Check the Account page or payment history to see whether Netflix collected the overdue payment and restored access. A saved payment method does not by itself confirm that the payment succeeded or that the account is no longer on hold.

If the payment controls are missing
First open Netflix.com in a browser rather than the app. If you are already using a browser, sign out and back in, then check Membership and Billing for Apple or another partner. A partner-controlled subscription usually requires a change through that provider. If no partner is shown and the payment controls still do not appear, contact Netflix support.

If the old card may be compromised
Contact your card issuer to freeze or replace a card you believe was compromised. Then add the replacement on Netflix, make it Preferred if that option is available, and remove the compromised method if Netflix allows it. Review your Netflix payment history and card statements for unauthorized charges. If you think someone else accessed your Netflix account, change its password as well.
