Apple Music marked its 10th anniversary on June 30, 2025, by announcing a three-story creative studio campus in Culver City, Los Angeles, alongside a week of anniversary radio programming. The facility is designed for artist-led broadcasts, performances, video, events and Spatial Audio work—not as a publicly bookable recording studio. Apple did not announce an open-access program for artists or subscribers.
What Apple announced for Apple Music’s 10th anniversary
Apple Music launched on June 30, 2015. On the same date in 2025, Apple announced a new Los Angeles creative hub and a week of special Apple Music Radio programming. The announcement was about expanding Apple’s artist-content operations; it did not introduce a new streaming service, subscription tier or artist-membership program. Apple’s announcement framed the Culver City facility as infrastructure for the service’s next decade.

Apple said the Los Angeles site would anchor a wider network of creative hubs, naming New York, Tokyo, Berlin, Paris and Nashville among existing locations. It is therefore more accurate to call the new facility a major addition to that network than Apple Music’s first studio.

Apple described a three-story facility spanning more than 15,000 square feet. Its announced features include two advanced radio studios and adaptable spaces for interviews, conversations and impromptu performances. A 4,000-square-foot soundstage is intended for live performances, multicamera shoots, fan events and screenings.

Other spaces include a dedicated Spatial Audio mixing room equipped with a 9.2.4 PMC speaker system, a photo and social-media lab, an edit room, a green room, and private isolation booths for songwriting, podcasting and one-on-one interviews. Apple also noted an “A-List Corridor” and an “Archive Corridor” documenting Apple Music history.
These specifications point to a facility built to make different kinds of artist content in one place: audio broadcasts, video, photography, events and spatial-audio production. The dedicated mixing room establishes that Spatial Audio work can happen there; it does not mean every production made at the site will be released in Spatial Audio.

Why “recording studio” is an incomplete description
The building includes studios and creative rooms, but Apple’s announcement emphasizes broadcasting, performance, content production and artist engagement. It does not establish that the site offers full album-tracking sessions, engineering or mixing for outside clients, or commercial room rentals. Calling it simply a recording studio can leave readers with the wrong idea of its purpose.

The likely value for Apple Music is the ability to bring artists into a production environment for interviews, live or semi-live performances, artist-led conversations, podcasts, video shoots and fan-facing events. Bringing those functions together may help Apple produce distinctive editorial and promotional content and deepen relationships with artists and labels. That is a strategic implication, not proof that the studio will increase artist payouts, discovery or streams.

Is the studio open to independent artists or subscribers?
Apple announced an artist-focused facility but did not provide a public booking system, application process, rental prices or eligibility rules. The announcement does not say whether independent musicians can apply, whether access is limited to Apple Music bookings or invited guests, or whether the building accepts outside commercial work. It also does not establish a general-admission policy, public tours or subscriber access.
In practical terms, “for artists” describes the facility’s purpose; it is not a promise that every artist can use it. An Apple Music subscription does not confer access to the building. Nor is the studio an Apple Music for Artists feature: that service provides artist-page management, analytics, release insights and promotional tools, not physical studio access. The anniversary programming was a separate part of the celebration
The studio announcement arrived with a week of Apple Music Radio specials and live programming beginning June 30, 2025. The opening special, “Don’t Be Boring: The Birth of Apple Music Radio with Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden,” was scheduled for that day, with further anniversary programming during the week. The Los Angeles Times also reported a countdown of Apple Music’s 500 most-streamed songs, beginning July 1. The countdown and radio specials were celebration programming, distinct from the construction and operation of the physical facility.
Apple said the studio would open in summer 2025; the Associated Press reported a mid-August target at the time. Those were opening projections, separate from the June 30 announcement date. The facility’s later design and Culver City context are discussed in Wallpaper’s 2026 coverage.
Why the move matters
Streaming services compete not only over catalogs and subscriptions but also over how they connect listeners to artists. A dedicated hub gives Apple a place to produce radio, video, live events and spatial-audio work under one roof. It also offers a physical counterpart to Apple Music’s editorial programming and a setting for artist appearances that listeners may encounter through the service.
The facility is best understood as production infrastructure for Apple’s programming and artist relationships, rather than a new benefit guaranteed to every musician or subscriber. Its impact on access, artist careers or compensation depends on decisions Apple has not publicly detailed, including how guests are selected and how the space will be programmed.
