Google says advertisers worldwide can now use a 30-second, non-skippable ad format for YouTube connected-TV viewing. That does not mean every viewer, video or ad break will get a 30-second commercial: Google’s system can also select six-second and 15-second formats, and the announcement does not promise universal delivery.
The change, announced on March 2, 2026, is about the availability of an advertising product—not a blanket change to every YouTube session on a television.
What Google announced
Google made Video Reach Campaign Non-Skips generally available to advertisers globally through Google Ads and Display & Video 360. The campaign product includes a 30-second non-skippable format designed specifically for connected-TV (CTV) viewing.
It is one option in a mix. Google says its AI can choose among six-second bumpers, 15-second standard ads and 30-second CTV-only non-skippable ads to pursue campaign reach and efficiency. The 30-second format is the one Google explicitly describes as non-skippable; the announcement does not establish a universal skip rule for every other format.

In practical terms, advertisers can buy into a campaign setup that may serve the 30-second spot on TV screens. Making that option generally available is different from making it the default—or the only—ad viewers receive.
What viewers may notice
Some people watching YouTube through a TV-connected device may encounter an ad that runs for 30 seconds without a skip option. Google has not published a viewer-level frequency guarantee, a country-by-country delivery list or a device-by-device rollout matrix in its announcement. Nor does it say the format will appear before every video, in every break or for every account.

Actual delivery can depend on factors such as campaign targeting, available ad inventory, advertiser demand, market, device, content eligibility and YouTube’s ad-serving decisions. “Globally available” describes advertiser access to the campaign product; it should not be read as “shown to everyone everywhere.” The announcement also does not say shorter or skippable ads are being removed.

YouTube on a TV is not the same as YouTube TV
YouTube app on a TV means the standard YouTube app used to watch YouTube videos on a television or connected device. YouTube TV is Google’s separate subscription live-TV service. The announcement concerns YouTube CTV advertising; it does not, by itself, establish a change to ad breaks in YouTube TV’s live-channel service.
New availability, not a brand-new ad length
A 30-second non-skippable format for connected-TV screens was not invented in 2026. Google described TV-focused formats, including 30-second non-skippable ads, in its 2023 announcement about YouTube’s TV viewing experience. The 2026 development is the general availability of Non-Skips within Video Reach Campaigns globally, not the first appearance of a 30-second TV ad.

Google’s broader CTV advertising context is laid out in its overview of the Google TV Network. The company’s stated case for the format is that a full-length message can reach viewers on the big screen, while its campaign system optimizes among formats. Those are Google’s product and performance claims, not a guarantee that every campaign or viewer will see the same mix.
Can you skip, block or avoid the ads?
If a particular 30-second ad is served in the specified non-skippable format, the format itself is not designed to be skipped. Whether another ad appears in another viewing session may differ.

For eligible YouTube viewing, YouTube Premium is the official subscription route to an ad-free experience, subject to plan terms, country availability and content exceptions. Check the plan details for your country before subscribing. Premium Lite availability and what it covers can also vary; do not assume it removes ads from every category, including music, Shorts or live content.
TV apps generally do not offer the same browser-based ad-blocking options people may be familiar with on a computer. Unofficial modified apps, DNS workarounds and VPN-based subscription workarounds can be unreliable, introduce security or compatibility problems, and may conflict with service terms. They are not dependable equivalents to an official plan.
What this means for advertisers
For advertisers, the 30-second option may suit campaigns built around full-message exposure, television-style storytelling or broad CTV reach. A non-skippable placement can ensure the ad plays through, but it can also feel intrusive to viewers. A longer creative is not automatically a better creative: results depend on the campaign objective, audience, market, device and execution.

Global product availability also does not mean uniform inventory, targeting, costs or delivery across markets. Buying is available through Google Ads and Display & Video 360; campaign costs depend on the campaign and auction, not a universal published rate.
What the announcement does not establish
- That every YouTube viewer on a TV will see a 30-second ad.
- That every ad break or video will include one, or that these ads will appear at a fixed frequency.
- That shorter or skippable formats are being replaced.
- That every TV, streaming device or console is covered by an identical rollout.
- That YouTube creators can choose to force this format, or that creator revenue, RPM, revenue sharing or mid-roll rules have changed.
- That the separate YouTube TV live-TV service has adopted this ad format.
The announcement is an advertiser-product update. It provides no creator-side data showing an effect on revenue or monetization policy.
