The unnamed Apple sci-fi series returning in the original headline was Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Legendary’s live-action Monsterverse drama featuring Godzilla and Kong. Apple announced season 2 on November 13, 2025, but the season is no longer “coming soon”: its 10-episode weekly run premiered on February 27, 2026, and concluded on May 1, 2026.
What is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters?
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is part of Legendary’s Monsterverse, the wider franchise built around Godzilla, Kong and other giant Titans. The series follows the history of the Monarch organization and a family whose connections to it span multiple generations.

What is season 2 about?
Season 2 deals with the fallout from the first season, with the future of Monarch and the wider world at stake. The story expands to Kong’s Skull Island, a mysterious village and a new Titan event connected to a mythical creature rising from the sea.
Both Godzilla and Kong return, while the season introduces Titan X, an enigmatic new Titan revealed in Apple’s promotional material. Should you watch season 1 first?
Yes. Season 2 depends on the history of Monarch, the family relationships at the center of the series and the relationship between the two generations of Lee Shaw. The split 1950s and modern-day timelines also provide essential context for the new season.
Apple describes season 1 as the story of siblings discovering their family’s connection to Monarch and becoming involved with the wider Titan world. Starting there will make season 2’s characters, discoveries and stakes much easier to follow.

The series is available through the Apple TV app and at tv.apple.com. Apple lists support for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV 4K, Apple Vision Pro, major smart-TV brands, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV, Android TV, PlayStation, Xbox and compatible web browsers. Apple listed the service at $12.99 per month in the United States in February 2026, with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers. Is season 3 confirmed?
The available official announcements do not establish a release date for a third main season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Apple has announced a separate, untitled Young Lee Shaw prequel series starring Wyatt Russell and created and showrun by Joby Harold, but its release date remains to be determined.
