TikTok announced a new Local Feed for the United States on February 11, 2026. The new home-screen tab is designed to show geographically relevant videos about events, restaurants, shops, travel destinations, local businesses, and creators. The rollout is gradual, so it may not yet be available to every U.S. account.
What is TikTok’s Local Feed?
The Local Feed is a location-oriented recommendation feed, not a conventional events calendar or local business directory. TikTok says it will help users discover nearby content connected to travel, events, restaurants, shopping, small businesses, and local creators.
Examples could include a restaurant review filmed nearby, a creator covering a neighborhood festival, a boutique showcasing new products, or travel content relevant to a city a user is visiting. These are examples of the types of content TikTok describes—not guaranteed listings or categories that every user will see.

The TikTok USDS Joint Venture newsroom page displays the item as February 12, so the feature was announced on February 11, with a one-day difference between the published pages.

How does TikTok decide what appears?
TikTok identifies three broad ranking signals:
- The viewer’s location
- The subject or topic of the video
- How recently the video was posted
TikTok has not disclosed a fixed mileage radius, city or ZIP-code rule, complete ranking formula, minimum engagement threshold, or expiration period for posts. It is therefore impossible to say that a video will reach everyone within a particular distance.
Adding a location or local business tag may help TikTok classify a post, but it does not guarantee Local Feed placement. Related TikTok documentation also indicates that local content may be identified through network, device, or Location Services signals, although the newer U.S. Local Feed may not use exactly the same rules as TikTok’s other nearby-content features.
Does the Local Feed require precise GPS location?
Not necessarily. TikTok says precise location can help power the Local Feed, but its U.S. announcement describes precise location as optional and off by default. The feature is available only to accounts aged 18 or older and is used only while the app is in use.

Users control precise-location access through their phone’s operating-system settings. If TikTok does not appear among the apps with precise-location access, TikTok says the account does not yet have access to that capability.

Turning off precise GPS does not necessarily mean TikTok has no location information. TikTok’s location documentation says it may estimate a less-specific location using signals such as IP address, SIM region, device settings, and network information. Precise GPS permission, approximate location, and a location voluntarily attached to a post are different things.

How to review TikTok’s location settings
TikTok’s documented in-app route is:
- Open TikTok and tap Profile.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button.
- Select Settings and privacy.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Location Services.
- Choose the available permission.
Exact labels can vary by operating system, app version, region, and rollout status. Device-level settings may also be required to change precise GPS access.
TikTok also documents an option for eligible users to delete certain location data received directly from Location Services: Profile → Menu ☰ → Settings and privacy → Privacy → Location Services → Delete certain location data. That deletion does not necessarily remove less-specific location inferences based on IP address or other device and network signals.
Who can appear in the Local Feed?
TikTok says the Local Feed will not show content from:

Creators seeking local discovery should generally use a public account and make sure the individual post is publicly visible. Accurate location information, a clear city or service area in the caption, and timely details may help classification, but none is an official placement guarantee.
Is it a reliable way to find events?
The Local Feed may help users discover videos about nearby events, but TikTok has not described it as a verified calendar, ticketing service, or comprehensive event database.
Event videos may be incomplete, promotional, outdated, or user-generated. Before attending, verify the date, location, ticket availability, age restrictions, opening hours, and cancellation information through the organizer’s official website or ticketing platform. Because TikTok names recency as a ranking signal but does not publish an expiration period, organizers should archive or update old event content themselves.

- Keep the account and relevant posts public.
- Use accurate location or business tags where appropriate.
- Name the city or service area when it is genuinely relevant.
- Put event dates, times, and locations prominently in the video or caption.
- Update or remove content when details change.
- Avoid revealing private addresses, children’s locations, or real-time movements.
Businesses should not treat Local Feed exposure as a replacement for an accurate website, Google Business Profile, event landing page, ticketing system, email list, or local-search strategy.
TikTok says 7.5 million businesses use its platform and cites a 2025 Oxford Economics report saying those businesses support more than 28 million workers. It also cites a Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council survey in which 84% of TikTok small-business users said TikTok helped grow their business, 75% said it helped reach customers beyond their local area, and 74% said it helped connect them with their local community. These are figures cited by TikTok, not independent measurements of the Local Feed’s performance.

TikTok’s Local Feed announcement does not say that businesses can buy guaranteed placement in the feed. TikTok offers separate geographic advertising tools through TikTok Ads Manager, but paid advertising and organic Local Feed recommendations should be treated as separate channels.
TikTok Ads supports location targeting by country, region, state, metro area, city, county, and—in available markets—ZIP code. TikTok warns that location delivery and accuracy are not guaranteed, and that very narrow targeting can reduce impressions and clicks or increase cost per acquisition. Its North America business page lists a recommended daily ad-group budget of $30, but that is a recommendation rather than a mandatory price or guaranteed campaign minimum.

For a local business, a sensible order is to maintain accurate local listings first, build organic TikTok content, and then test paid promotion against a measurable objective such as calls, bookings, ticket purchases, leads, or store-visit proxies.
What TikTok has not promised
- A fixed geographic radius
- Complete coverage of every nearby event
- Verified event or business information
- Ticketing or booking functionality
- Guaranteed distribution for location-tagged posts
- A universal launch date for all U.S. users
- Guaranteed Local Feed placement through advertising
Why the Local Feed may be missing
If the tab does not appear, possible explanations include the gradual rollout, account age, region, app version, or the feature simply not being enabled for that account. TikTok has not published a complete eligibility checklist.
If a business post does not appear, possible factors include privacy settings, account eligibility, topical classification, stale content, limited local signals, and recommendation decisions outside the creator’s control. TikTok has not published a troubleshooting checklist or minimum requirements for Local Feed inclusion.
The bottom line
For users, TikTok’s Local Feed offers a new way to discover nearby videos about events, restaurants, shops, travel, and local creators. The trade-off is that more precise local relevance may involve sharing more location context, while disabling precise GPS does not necessarily eliminate all approximate location inference.
For businesses and organizers, the Local Feed is best viewed as a potential organic-discovery channel—not a verified event service, a guaranteed advertising placement, or a substitute for local search and accurate event information.
