In the SoundCloud mobile app, open a track, profile, album, or playlist, tap Share, and choose Instagram Stories. Instagram should open its Story editor, where you can add text, stickers, or other available elements before publishing. Some tracks also offer an Audio Snippet, but this is separate from a standard link share and is not available for every track.
Before you start
- Install the latest available versions of the SoundCloud and Instagram apps.
- Sign in to Instagram and SoundCloud on your iPhone or Android phone.
- Use the SoundCloud mobile app for the documented direct Instagram Stories workflow.
- Check whether the SoundCloud item is public or private before sharing it.
App labels and the appearance of Instagram’s Story editor can vary by device, account, platform, and app version.
Share a SoundCloud track to Instagram Stories
- Open the SoundCloud app on iOS or Android.
- Find the track you want to share.
- Tap the Share icon. Depending on the screen, it may be next to the track or inside a three-dot menu.
- Choose Instagram Stories or the Instagram icon.
- Wait for Instagram to open the Story editor.
- Add text, mentions, GIFs, stickers, or other available Story elements. SoundCloud also documents the option to add a SoundCloud Giphy sticker, although the sticker catalog may vary.
- Choose Your Story, Close Friends, or another available audience option, then publish.
The normal SoundCloud share creates a Story that points viewers to the SoundCloud content. It does not automatically import the complete track into Instagram’s music library or guarantee that the track will play as native Story audio.

The same Share control can be used for an artist or user profile, album, or playlist, as well as an individual track. Instagram may open a different Story card or send viewers to the corresponding profile, album, or playlist rather than to one song. Check the destination before posting.

Share a SoundCloud Audio Snippet
An Audio Snippet is different from a standard SoundCloud link share. It can add a short audio preview to the Instagram Story flow when the track is eligible.
- Open the latest available SoundCloud mobile app.
- Open the track’s page.
- Look for the speaker badge beside the track.
- Tap the Instagram Stories icon.
- Edit the Story in Instagram and publish it.
Audio Snippets are available only for selected tracks in the iOS and Android apps. Eligibility is controlled by the relevant rightsholders, so ordinary users cannot enable the feature for a track that does not support it. SoundCloud explains the distinction in its official sharing instructions.

Why does the Story have no audio?
No sound does not necessarily mean the share failed. Common explanations include:
- The track has no speaker badge and is not eligible for an Audio Snippet.
- You used the normal SoundCloud link share rather than the Audio Snippet route.
- Rights-holder restrictions prevent an audio preview.
- Instagram received a visual or link card instead of playable audio.
- A temporary handoff, account, regional, licensing, or app-version difference affected the result.
SoundCloud confirms that Audio Snippets are not available for every track and that rightsholders control eligibility. If the feature is unavailable, use the standard Story link share rather than promising viewers that the song will play inside Instagram.
If Instagram Stories is missing from the Share menu
Try these practical troubleshooting steps:
- Update SoundCloud and Instagram.
- Confirm that Instagram is installed and that you are logged in.
- Open the item’s own page and try its Share control instead of sharing from a feed preview.
- Check the three-dot menu for another Share option.
- Close and reopen both apps, then retry.
- Restart the phone.
- On Android, clear the affected app’s cache if that option is available in your phone settings.
- On iPhone, reinstalling the affected app can refresh the sharing handoff if simpler fixes fail.
- Tap Copy Link and add the URL manually through Instagram’s available Story link controls.
SoundCloud recommends using the latest app versions, but it does not publish a complete diagnostic tree for every missing-share-button scenario. Menu availability can also vary by platform and account.

Can you share from a computer?
Mobile is the primary documented route for direct Instagram Stories sharing. SoundCloud’s web instructions describe a Share button below the track waveform and list available services such as Facebook, X/Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, and email, along with copying the URL. They do not establish that the desktop website always provides the same Instagram Stories button as the mobile app.

This is a fallback, not necessarily the same branded handoff created by SoundCloud’s mobile app.
Sharing private or unreleased tracks
SoundCloud private tracks and playlists can be shared using secret links. A private track is not publicly searchable or shown on the public profile, but anyone who receives its unique secret link may be able to listen. SoundCloud explains private sharing here.

Because an Instagram Story can be public, posting a private URL there may expose the secret link to a much wider audience than intended. Treat Instagram visibility and SoundCloud access as separate concerns, and use a private link only when you are comfortable with everyone who can view or receive it having access.

Artists can promote public releases through the same Share control. If the goal is immediate listening, share the public track after release and add a clear call to action such as “Listen on SoundCloud.”

For advance previews, a secret link can provide controlled distribution, but it should not be posted to a public Story unless broad access is acceptable. If the track lacks the speaker badge, promote it with the standard link share and do not imply that an Audio Snippet will play.

After publishing, open the Story as a viewer where possible and verify that it leads to the intended track, album, playlist, or profile. This is especially important if the item was edited, replaced, removed, or changed from public to private.
Quick choice: which sharing method should you use?

A screenshot or screen recording can promote the visual appearance of a track, but it is not the preferred substitute for an official link. It may create attribution, copyright, quality, or misleading-destination problems.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I share a SoundCloud playlist to Instagram Stories?
Yes. Open the playlist in the SoundCloud mobile app, tap Share, and choose Instagram Stories or the Instagram icon. The Story should direct viewers to the playlist rather than necessarily to one individual track.
Can I choose any section of a track for an Audio Snippet?
SoundCloud’s cited help documentation does not establish that users can choose an arbitrary section. Do not assume the audio preview can be customized.
Do I need a paid SoundCloud plan?
The cited SoundCloud sharing documentation does not say that a paid plan is required. It recommends using the latest available app versions.
Can I make every SoundCloud track use an Audio Snippet?
No. Audio Snippets are available only for eligible tracks, and the relevant rightsholders control eligibility. A missing speaker badge is not something users can turn on themselves.
