The Hunt—also released under its French title, Traqués—is now streaming on Apple TV in the United States. The six-episode French-language thriller premiered on March 4, 2026, after Apple postponed its originally scheduled December 3, 2025 debut amid reported plagiarism allegations.
What is The Hunt?
The Hunt is a French-language survival and crime thriller series, not a reality hunting program or documentary. It follows Franck and a group of longtime friends who spend weekends hunting together. Their routine turns deadly when another group begins targeting them.

After one of Franck’s friends is shot, the group retaliates and kills one of the attackers. They hide what happened, but Franck soon suspects that someone is watching and pursuing them. The story expands beyond the manhunt to explore secrecy, fear, family relationships and the moral compromises made under pressure.
Apple’s official synopsis identifies Benoît Magimel as Franck and Mélanie Laurent as Krystel, Franck’s wife. The series is categorized by Apple as a thriller and mystery.

Why was The Hunt delayed?
Apple originally planned to release the series on December 3, 2025. Shortly before that date, the show was removed from Apple’s upcoming schedule and promotional material reportedly disappeared. The postponement followed allegations that its story closely resembled Douglas Fairbairn’s 1973 novel Shoot and the 1976 film adaptation of the same name.
Reporting said that production company Gaumont investigated the claims, leading to the roughly three-month delay. Apple later announced March 4, 2026 as the new premiere date. Deadline’s report, republished by Yahoo Canada, documented the original and revised dates and the reported investigation.
Rank #2
Was the series legally found to be plagiarized?
Not according to the available public record. The evidence supports describing the situation as plagiarism allegations, reported similarities and an investigation—not as a proven court finding that the series unlawfully copied the novel or film.
The reported comparison concerns a group of hunters drawn into a deadly confrontation with another group, followed by pursuit, retaliation and escalating violence. Later coverage reported that the restored Apple listing included updated source-material credits connecting the series with Fairbairn’s work. However, Apple’s current press page does not provide a detailed explanation of the controversy or state how the investigation was resolved.
Rank #3
That distinction matters: the show’s release confirms that Apple ultimately proceeded with the series, but it does not by itself establish whether the allegations were proved, dismissed or settled privately.
Release schedule and episode count
Apple’s U.S. listing shows a completed first season of six episodes. The initial rollout began on March 4 with the first two episodes, followed by additional weekly releases. All six episodes are now listed and available, so viewers can watch the season without waiting for another installment.

How to watch The Hunt in the U.S.
- Open the Apple TV app or visit the official U.S. Apple TV series page.
- Search for The Hunt and confirm that the result is the 2026 television series, also identified as Traqués.
- Use an Apple TV subscription to access the episodes.
At the time of the cited U.S. listing, Apple displayed a seven-day free trial followed by $12.99 per month. That is a U.S. price signal observed on August 18, 2026, not a universal global price. Subscription costs, trial eligibility, language options and catalog availability may differ by country.
The series is presented as part of Apple’s subscription streaming service, not simply as a movie rental from the Apple TV Store. Subtitle and dubbing options should be checked in the Apple TV app for the viewer’s region and device.
Is it a good fit for viewers?
The Hunt is most likely to appeal to viewers who enjoy French-language crime thrillers, tense manhunt stories and morally compromised protagonists. Its six-episode length makes it a relatively compact commitment, and the completed season can now be watched in full.

Viewers who prefer uncomplicated heroes may find the premise less comfortable: the central group conceals a death and must deal with the consequences of its decisions. Anyone particularly concerned about the reported source-material controversy may also want to read the available reporting before deciding whether to watch.
Do not confuse this series with the other The Hunt titles
Search results for The Hunt can lead to unrelated films. This 2026 French-language series is not the 2020 political satire starring Betty Gilpin and Hilary Swank, and it is not the 2012 Danish drama starring Mads Mikkelsen. When searching Apple TV, look for the television listing marked 2026 or the alternate title Traqués.
