Heart Eyes is a romantic slasher with a horror-comedy sensibility. Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding play a cynical advertising executive and her romantic colleague, who are mistaken for a couple and targeted by the Heart Eyes Killer. The killer’s preferred victims are couples, and the Valentine’s Day setting gives the film a knowingly seasonal premise.
This is not a zombie movie. It is a killer-focused horror-romance, closer to a playful slasher than to an undead comedy. The tone balances romantic-comedy beats with graphic kills, so it is best suited to viewers who want genre entertainment rather than relentless psychological terror.
The practical catch is access. During the relevant week, Heart Eyes was a premium video-on-demand release, not a subscription-included title. A rental makes sense for a single movie night; buying is more appropriate for repeat viewing or a personal digital library. Its Valentine’s Day premise may feel slightly out of season in March, but the central hook works beyond the holiday.

Heretic: the week’s strongest suspense recommendation

In Heretic, two Mormon missionaries visit the home of Mr. Reed, a seemingly welcoming man played by Hugh Grant. What begins as a conversation becomes a tightly controlled theological and psychological confrontation. Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East play the missionaries caught inside Reed’s increasingly disturbing game.
The film’s appeal is its unusual combination of ideas and atmosphere. Its early sections are dialogue-heavy, using religious debate, persuasion, and manipulation to build pressure before the horror becomes more overt. Hugh Grant’s performance is a major draw: the role turns his familiar charm into something more ambiguous and threatening.

Heretic is therefore a different kind of recommendation from Heart Eyes. It is less interested in quick slasher thrills and more interested in suspense, belief, control, and the instability of a conversation that no longer feels safe. Picture This: romantic-comedy counterprogramming

Picture This gives the week a much lighter alternative to its horror-heavy headline titles. Simone Ashley plays Pia, a struggling photographer dealing with family matchmaking, romantic complications, and the approaching wedding of her sister. Hero Fiennes Tiffin co-stars in the British romantic comedy.
The film’s place in this roundup is important because the week is not exclusively aimed at horror viewers. Anyone looking for a relationship story, wedding complications, and a more conventional feel-good watch can use Picture This as the escape route from killers, theological dread, and supernatural folklore.

Chaos: The Manson Murders: the nonfiction option
Available on Netflix from March 7, 2025.
Chaos: The Manson Murders is the week’s feature-length true-crime documentary. It examines Charles Manson, the Manson murders, and the questions surrounding the motivations behind the case through interviews and archival material.
The documentary is based on the work of Tom O’Neill and Dan Piepenbring. Its stated approach is to offer a fresh perspective on a heavily examined crime story, but that framing should not be treated as proof that it definitively settles the historical record or replaces every established account. Viewers should approach it as an interpretation built from its source material and filmmaking choices.
For documentary audiences, this is the most directly relevant title in the week’s lineup. It also provides a substantially different viewing experience from the scripted films: rather than fictional suspense or supernatural horror, it uses testimony, documentation, and historical context to revisit one of the most notorious criminal cases in American history.
Watch it if: you prefer nonfiction investigations, archival footage, and the history of true crime to fictional horror.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man: the conditional franchise pick
Available on Hulu from March 7, 2025.
Set in the 1950s, Hellboy: The Crooked Man follows Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent into rural Appalachia, where they encounter a supernatural threat connected to a witch. Jack Kesy plays Hellboy in this comic-book horror story rooted in mountain folklore.
The film was intended to help revive the franchise after the poorly received 2019 reboot. However, it did not generate strong theatrical interest and received weak critical notices, making it the least secure recommendation in this group for viewers who are unfamiliar with the character.

That does not make it irrelevant. Committed Hellboy fans, viewers interested in creature features, and audiences drawn to supernatural stories set outside familiar urban environments may find enough reason to try it. But for a general audience choosing only one title, Heretic or Heart Eyes is the safer starting point, depending on whether the preference is slow-burn suspense or more playful gore.
Watch it if: you are already invested in Hellboy or specifically want a folklore-inflected comic-book horror film.

That later status must not be confused with the film’s March 4, 2025 launch arrangement. The listing showed a $3.99 rental and $14.99 purchase price at that time, but prices and availability are volatile.
The broader release list is best understood as five principal movies highlighted for that week, rather than a literal inventory of every film added to every U.S. streaming catalog.
