There are two different ways to “download” music from SoundCloud. If the creator enables the official download button, you can save an actual audio file on a computer. On a phone, SoundCloud’s official option is usually offline listening inside the SoundCloud app through an eligible Go-family subscription—not an MP3 you can move to another player.
If a track has no download option, SoundCloud does not provide a legitimate button to bypass that restriction. Your alternatives are to use an authorized link from the artist, contact the creator, or buy the release from an approved store.
Choose the right kind of SoundCloud download

These options are not interchangeable. An offline save is not an MP3, and a creator-enabled download does not automatically give you permission to redistribute, edit, or re-upload the music.
How to download an individual SoundCloud track on a computer
SoundCloud’s official file-download feature works on the web and only for individual tracks whose uploader has enabled downloads.

- Open SoundCloud in a desktop web browser.
- Sign in to your SoundCloud account.
- Open the individual track page.
- Look beneath the waveform for the download file button.
- Click it and save the file when your browser prompts you.
- If no prompt appears, check the browser’s Downloads folder.
SoundCloud requires users to be signed in, and the button appears only when the uploader has permitted downloads. See SoundCloud’s official downloading instructions.
The download may not be an MP3
Do not assume that every SoundCloud download is an MP3 or has a particular bitrate. SoundCloud says listeners receive a copy of the original file format uploaded by the creator. After downloading, check the file extension and metadata. If it will not play, try a current media player that supports that format and confirm that the browser download completed.
How to save SoundCloud music for offline listening on iPhone or Android
For mobile listening, SoundCloud directs users toward offline playback in the app. The feature is associated with SoundCloud Go-family subscriptions and remains subject to track, rights-holder, and territory restrictions.
Save your Likes
- Open the SoundCloud app.
- Go to Library.
- Open Likes.
- Tap the download button.
- Wait until the download indicator finishes.
Save a playlist
- Open Library.
- Select the playlist.
- Tap the download control—the small arrow next to the heart in SoundCloud’s current instructions.
- Wait for the progress indicator to complete.
Save your Library automatically
- Open Settings.
- Go to Downloads.
- Turn on Download automatically.
To reduce cellular-data use, enable Only download via Wi-Fi in the download settings. Labels and icon placement can differ between iOS, Android, app versions, and regions, so look for the control that saves content for offline playback. What offline listening does not do
- It does not create a normal audio file in a folder you can copy elsewhere.
- It does not let you transfer tracks to another music player.
- It can use substantial device storage.
- It may require you to remain signed in.
- Saved content can disappear if you sign out or uninstall the app.
- A track may stop being available if its rights or territory permissions change.
Offline content is temporarily stored and controlled by the app. If you sign out or reinstall SoundCloud, you may need to save your Likes, playlists, or Library again.
What to do when the Download button is missing
A missing button usually means the uploader has not enabled direct downloads. Other possibilities include being signed out, viewing a playlist instead of an individual track, using the mobile app, or encountering territory or track-permission restrictions.
- Confirm that you are signed in.
- Open the individual track page in a desktop web browser.
- Check the artist’s description, profile, or official website for an authorized download link.
- Contact the artist or label if you need a copy.
- Look for an authorized purchase or download from the artist’s chosen store.
SoundCloud’s help documentation says that when the download button is absent, the uploader has not made the track available for download. Do not use a converter or stream-ripping service to defeat that choice.

Why offline listening may not work
The track is not eligible
Even with a qualifying subscription, a rights holder may disable offline listening. Availability can also vary by country or territory. A track being streamable does not guarantee that it can be saved offline.

Wi-Fi-only downloads are enabled
If the app is using cellular data while Only download via Wi-Fi is turned on, the save may wait until you connect to Wi-Fi.
The Library has not refreshed
Connect to a stable network and refresh the Library or playlist. If you added tracks after the last synchronization, re-save the relevant Likes or playlist.
You signed out or reinstalled the app
Offline copies can be removed after signing out or deleting the app. Sign in again and save the content again.

The device is short on storage
Check available storage and the app’s download settings. Large playlists can consume significant space, especially when many items are saved automatically.

SoundCloud Go versus Go+
Both Go-family listener plans are intended to provide features such as ad-free listening and offline playback, but they are not a way to obtain unrestricted audio files. Go+ generally offers the broader listener feature set and catalog access described by SoundCloud’s plan materials.
SoundCloud’s official pages currently describe Go’s catalog differently: the subscription comparison page says Go does not include the full catalog, while the public plans page says Go includes “Access full catalog.” The difference may reflect changing plans, regions, or subscription channels. Check the plan displayed in your account and at checkout. Offline eligibility can still vary by individual track and rights holder.

The safe rule is to use only SoundCloud’s official download or offline-listening features and follow the uploader’s permission. A creator-enabled download allows you to obtain the file through SoundCloud; it does not automatically grant permission to redistribute it, upload it elsewhere, sell it, or use it in a video.

SoundCloud’s Terms of Use prohibit ripping, capturing, and copying content outside permitted official functions. Creative Commons or other licenses may allow additional uses, but the specific license and its conditions control. A stream, an offline save, and a downloadable file represent different permissions.
How to remove offline content
- For Likes or a playlist, tap the orange download arrow so it turns gray.
- To clear everything, go to Settings → Storage → Remove all downloads.
- For a playlist, open its three-dot menu and choose the option to remove it from downloads.
- SoundCloud’s current instructions say there is no separate individual-track removal control; removing the track from the relevant Like or playlist is the available route.
Common questions
Can I download SoundCloud songs to MP3?
Only if the creator’s official download is an MP3. SoundCloud provides the original uploaded format, so the result may be another audio format. Offline app saves are not MP3 files.
Can I download a SoundCloud playlist?
You cannot download a playlist as one collection of files through SoundCloud’s official web download feature. You may be able to save the playlist for offline playback in the app if your plan, territory, and the individual tracks support it.
Can I download tracks directly in the SoundCloud app?
The standard official file-download function is for the web. In the app, eligible Go-family users can save supported Likes, playlists, and Library content for offline listening.
Can I transfer offline SoundCloud songs to another player?
No. Offline saves are app-managed copies intended for playback inside SoundCloud, not ordinary files for transfer.
Can I use a SoundCloud downloader website?
Do not use a third-party downloader to bypass a disabled download option. It may violate SoundCloud’s Terms of Use and may expose you to misleading files, unwanted software, or unauthorized copying.
How do I download my own SoundCloud tracks?
If you are the creator, manage the track’s permissions and enable downloads where appropriate. SoundCloud’s creator guidance explains the relevant download-permission settings. Those settings govern your uploads; they do not unlock downloads of other artists’ tracks.
