Pokémon Red & Pokémon Blue Game Music Collection: Game Boy Jukebox is a palm-sized, Game Boy-shaped music collectible released for Pokémon’s 30th anniversary on February 27, 2026. It includes 45 miniature cartridges, each selecting a melody or sound effect from the original Pokémon Red and Blue era.
The important catch: it is not a playable Game Boy, does not run Pokémon games, and should not be treated as a conventional MP3 player. Its appeal is the physical cartridge-swapping experience, original Game Boy-style audio, and licensed Pokémon display value.
What is the Pokémon Game Boy Jukebox?
The official product is called Pokémon Red & Pokémon Blue Game Music Collection: Game Boy Jukebox. It is styled after the original Game Boy and was released through regional Pokémon retail channels as part of the franchise’s 30th-anniversary celebration.
The unit is a dedicated miniature jukebox rather than a retro console. Its 45 tiny cartridges are music-selection tokens: insert one into the player and it activates the associated melody or sound effect. The cartridge also displays related game artwork through the device’s mock screen.

The safest description is therefore “Game Boy-shaped jukebox” or “miniature Pokémon music player.” Calling it an MP3 player is potentially misleading because there is no confirmed support for user-supplied MP3 files, Bluetooth, streaming, USB music, or expandable storage.
How does it work?
- Choose one of the 45 miniature cartridges.
- Insert it into the jukebox’s cartridge slot.
- The device plays the associated Pokémon Red or Blue melody or sound effect.
- The corresponding screenshot or artwork appears in the display area.
This recreates the tactile ritual of selecting a Game Boy cartridge without turning the device into a games machine. The available descriptions establish the one-cartridge-per-selection behavior, but do not confirm whether the audio is stored directly on each cartridge or whether the cartridges trigger selections stored in the main unit.
What music is included?
The collection contains 45 selected melodies or sound effects from the original Pokémon Red and Blue material. Marketing and regional announcements sometimes call these “songs,” but “melodies or sound effects” is the more precise description.

It is not a complete Pokémon soundtrack and does not cover music from the franchise’s later games. The audio is intended to preserve the character of the original Game Boy sound. During the product’s Pokémon Presents introduction, longtime Pokémon composer Junichi Masuda said particular care had been taken with that Game Boy-era sound; that is an attributed product claim, not an independent audio-quality test.
The Western release pairs Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue. The Japanese version uses the corresponding Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green pairing, so packaging and regional availability may differ.
Is it a real playable Game Boy?
No. It does not play Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, or standard Game Boy cartridges. The screen is a display element for associated artwork rather than a gameplay screen.

In Singapore, the official regional announcement stated that the product would be sold through Pokémon Store Online Singapore via Lazada from February 28, 2026, rather than through Pokémon Center Singapore. It also warned that quantities were limited. Historical reports indicated that some US and UK listings sold out shortly after launch, but that does not establish permanent worldwide scarcity. Check the relevant official regional store before paying a resale premium.
