YouTube TV’s genre-based subscription plans launched in February 2026 and rolled out over the following weeks. They are curated channel bundles—not a fully à-la-carte service—with standard prices ranging from $54.99 to $71.99 per month. YouTube TV’s broad main plan remains available for $82.99 per month.
The right choice depends on the channels your household actually watches. A cheaper genre plan can save money, but missing sports, news, children’s programming, local stations or premium services may require separate subscriptions that erase the difference.
What YouTube TV launched
YouTube announced in December 2025 that it would introduce more than 10 genre-specific plans covering sports, news, entertainment, family programming and combinations of those categories. The plans began launching on February 9, 2026, and YouTube said the rollout would continue over several weeks.

These plans are bundles of channels. They do not let subscribers choose every channel individually. The plan menu and available channels can also vary by account, ZIP code, local carriage agreements and rollout status. Check the options shown in your own account before changing or canceling service.

Promotional pricing is temporary and applies to eligible new subscribers under the terms YouTube publishes. Taxes, premium products and other add-ons can increase the monthly bill. Use the standard recurring price when comparing long-term costs.
What each genre plan includes
YouTube describes the following representative channel groups. They are not guaranteed to be a complete nationwide lineup.

YouTube says the Sports Plan includes major broadcast networks, FS1, NBC Sports Network and ESPN networks. The company also identified ESPN Unlimited as coming in fall 2026; its availability should be verified in your account rather than assumed.
The plan retains sports-oriented features such as multiview and Key Plays. However, a sports-focused plan does not automatically include every league, regional sports network, local team feed or premium sports product.
Sports + News — $71.99 per month
This plan adds national news programming to the Sports Plan. YouTube specifically names CNBC, Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, C-SPAN, Bloomberg and Fox Business.

It is $11 cheaper than the $82.99 main plan at standard pricing, but that saving matters only if your household can live without the entertainment, family and other channels omitted from the narrower bundle.

Entertainment is the least expensive of the publicly detailed plans. YouTube positions it around major broadcasters and channels including Comedy Central, Bravo, Paramount, Food Network, HGTV, FX and Hallmark-related programming.
It is $28 below the main plan before taxes and add-ons. That headline saving may disappear if sports, news, children’s programming or another missing network must be replaced elsewhere.
News + Entertainment + Family — $69.99 per month
This bundle combines news and entertainment with family programming. YouTube names Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, National Geographic, Cartoon Network and PBS Kids among its examples.
It is the clearest fit for households that need children’s channels but do not need the full Sports Plan. Check the displayed lineup for your market, particularly for local stations.
Main plan — $82.99 per month
The main plan remains YouTube TV’s broadest option, with more than 100 networks across sports, news, entertainment and family categories. It is generally the safer choice for households with several viewers and varied interests, provided the included channels justify the higher recurring cost.

Do local ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC stations remain included?
Do not assume that every plan includes every local affiliate in every ZIP code. YouTube’s descriptions refer to major broadcasters, but local availability depends on the viewer’s market and current carriage agreements.
Before switching, enter your ZIP code or review the channel lineup shown for your account. A plan that looks suitable nationally may not carry the local station your household depends on.

Sports coverage: what the Sports Plan does not guarantee
“Sports” is a category, not a promise that every desired game is included. Check all of the following before changing plans:
- Whether your local broadcast stations carry the games you watch.
- Whether the relevant league or regional sports network is included.
- Local-team restrictions and blackouts.
- Whether NFL Sunday Ticket, NFL RedZone or another premium product is required.
- Whether a game is available in the YouTube TV app or requires a separate app.
- Whether ESPN Unlimited is available to your account at the time you subscribe.
NFL Sunday Ticket and NFL RedZone with Sports Plus are separate products, not automatic inclusions in the base Sports Plan. HBO Max and 4K Plus are also add-ons subject to eligibility and plan requirements.
Do the plans stack, or are they replacements?
The genre products are alternative YouTube TV subscription plans, not simply individual channels added to the $82.99 main plan. Do not assume that buying Sports adds the Sports Plan’s channels to an existing main-plan subscription, or that multiple genre plans can be combined at the advertised prices.

Use the plan-change flow in your account to see which combinations YouTube currently permits and what the total recurring price would be. Premium products remain separate add-ons. YouTube’s package and add-on guidance lists products that require an active YouTube TV plan.

Important: changing plans can affect DVR access
Before downgrading, review your recordings. YouTube TV Help says that if a plan change removes access to DVR content tied to a genre, the recordings can be recovered if you re-add a plan containing that genre within 21 days.
Save or screenshot your current channel lineup and identify recordings that depend on channels you are removing. Do not treat a downgrade as risk-free simply because the recordings remain visible in your library.
Do all plans keep YouTube TV’s core features?
YouTube says its plans retain core features including:
- Unlimited DVR storage.
- Up to six household member accounts.
- Multiview.
- Key Plays.
Feature availability can still depend on the program, device, plan requirements or current YouTube terms. Premium add-ons have their own eligibility rules.

- Getting set up is easy – Plug in and connect to Wi-Fi for smooth streaming.
- List the channels and events your household actually watches. Include local stations, children’s channels, news networks, regional sports and league-specific programming.
- Check the channel lineup for your ZIP code. Local affiliates and carriage agreements can vary.
- Match those needs to a genre plan. Confirm that the exact network, feed and event—not merely a related channel—is available.
- Add required extras. Include NFL Sunday Ticket, RedZone, HBO Max, 4K Plus or replacement streaming services.
- Separate promotions from recurring prices. A three-month or one-year introductory discount should not be treated as the permanent cost.
- Compare the result with the $82.99 main plan and alternatives. The cheapest base subscription is not always the cheapest complete solution.
For example, Entertainment is nominally $28 cheaper than the main plan. If a household then buys a separate sports service and a children’s package, the effective saving may vanish. Conversely, a sports-heavy viewer who rarely watches general entertainment may save substantially with Sports if the necessary games and local stations are covered.
YouTube TV genre plans versus DIRECTV Genre Packs
DIRECTV already offers comparable genre products, including MySports, MyEntertainment and MyNews. Its published comparison page lists standard prices of $49.99 per month for MySports, $42.99 for MyEntertainment and $44.99 for MyNews, while noting that promotions, taxes, fees and local-channel availability can affect the final bill.

DIRECTV may include streaming services or products such as ESPN Unlimited in specific packages, but those benefits have their own terms and eligibility rules. Compare normal recurring prices rather than matching a temporary DIRECTV offer against YouTube TV’s standard rate.

Which YouTube TV plan should you choose?
- Choose the main plan if several household members watch different genres, you need the broadest lineup, or replacement subscriptions would erase the savings.
- Choose Sports if sports dominate your viewing and you have confirmed local stations, league coverage, blackouts and premium add-ons.
- Choose Sports + News if you want sports plus CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, CNBC, Bloomberg, C-SPAN or Fox Business, but do not need the broader entertainment lineup.
- Choose Entertainment if your household mainly watches general entertainment and lifestyle networks and can live without broad sports and news coverage.
- Choose News + Entertainment + Family if you need children’s networks such as Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, PBS Kids or Cartoon Network alongside news and entertainment.
- Compare DIRECTV if its genre packs, included streaming services or sports offering better match your exact lineup after promotions and fees end.
Bottom line
YouTube TV’s genre plans are no longer future products: they launched in early 2026. Entertainment is the lowest-priced detailed option at $54.99 per month, while Sports is $64.99, Sports + News is $71.99 and the main plan is $82.99.
The best value is determined by the complete lineup your household needs. Check your ZIP code, confirm sports rights and add-ons, account for temporary promotions, and review DVR consequences before switching. If the missing channels require replacement services, the broader main plan may still be cheaper and simpler.
