Major League Soccer is no longer sold as a separate MLS Season Pass subscription. Beginning with the 2026 season, MLS matches are included with an Apple TV subscription. In the United States, Apple TV costs $12.99 per month after an eligible seven-day free trial, so MLS is not completely free—but there is no additional MLS fee.
Apple says subscribers in more than 100 countries and regions can watch every MLS match without blackouts. Availability, pricing, and included competitions can vary by country.
What “free on Apple TV” really means

Apple’s current product pages call the service Apple TV, although many viewers still know it by the older “Apple TV+” name. The subscription includes MLS alongside Apple Originals and other selected sports programming.
Apple and MLS announced the change in November 2025. The old MLS Season Pass was the separate product through the 2025 season; from 2026 onward, the MLS package moved into the regular Apple TV subscription.

Apple’s support documentation explains the MLS Season Pass transition, while its current Apple TV page lists pricing and included content.
What MLS coverage is included?
According to Apple’s 2026 announcements, the package includes:
- Every regular-season MLS match.
- The Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
- Leagues Cup.
- The Michelob ULTRA Campeones Cup.
- The MLS All-Star Game.
- MLS 360 and other studio coverage.
- Additional exclusive MLS programming and on-demand content.
Apple says the MLS package is available without blackouts in more than 100 countries and regions. That statement applies to Apple’s MLS offering in the markets it identifies; it should not be extended automatically to every soccer competition, sports channel, or territory in the Apple TV app.

How much does it cost in the United States?
Apple TV monthly subscription
Apple currently lists Apple TV at $12.99 per month in the U.S. Eligible new subscribers can begin with a seven-day free trial. The subscription renews at the stated monthly price unless it is canceled before the trial ends.
Other ways to reduce the cost
- New Apple device promotion: Apple says eligible customers who purchase and activate a qualifying new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV 4K, or Mac can receive three months of Apple TV free for a limited time. Eligibility, redemption deadlines, and device requirements apply.
- Full-season MLS tickets: Apple says an Apple TV subscription for the season is included with each qualifying full-season MLS club ticket account. Look for activation instructions from the club.
- Apple Music Student Plan: Apple says eligible students receive Apple TV access with the student plan. Student verification and regional terms apply.
- Apple One: Apple One bundles Apple TV with other Apple services and starts at $19.95 per month in the U.S. It can make sense for someone who already wants Apple Music, iCloud+, or other bundled services, but it is not necessarily cheaper for someone who wants only MLS.
- Family Sharing: Apple says an Apple TV subscription can be shared with up to five other family members—six people total including the organizer—through an Apple Family Sharing group.
These are separate eligibility routes, not universal permanent free plans. Check the offer screen for the exact renewal date, price, and terms before confirming a subscription.
How to watch MLS on Apple TV
You can watch through the Apple TV app or at tv.apple.com. An Apple-made television box is not required.

Compatibility depends on the specific device model and operating-system version. Apple’s current device list is the safest place to check an older television or streaming device.

How to start watching
New Apple TV subscriber
- Open the Apple TV app or visit tv.apple.com.
- Choose the Apple TV subscription or trial option.
- Sign in with an Apple Account, or create one.
- Review the trial length, renewal date, and renewal price.
- Confirm the subscription.
- Open the MLS section or select a scheduled match.
If you do not want the subscription to renew, cancel before the trial ends. Apple provides subscription-management instructions through its subscription support page. Labels can differ slightly by device and software version.
Existing Apple TV subscriber
- Open the Apple TV app.
- Sign in with the Apple Account attached to the active Apple TV subscription.
- Select MLS, a club page, or a live match.
- Start watching without purchasing MLS Season Pass separately.
What happened to existing MLS Season Pass subscriptions?
The standalone MLS Season Pass ended after the 2025 season. A former Season Pass subscription should not be confused with an active 2026 Apple TV subscription.
To check what is currently billing you on an Apple device, open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. On other devices, use the Apple Account subscription page or the account area of the service through which the subscription was purchased.

If MLS content is locked, verify that the Apple Account signed into the app is the same account with the active Apple TV subscription. Do not assume that an old MLS Season Pass receipt automatically provides current Apple TV access.

Why might a match still be locked?
The most common explanations are:
- You are signed into the wrong Apple Account.
- Your Apple TV trial or subscription has expired.
- The subscription was purchased through a different platform or account.
- The app needs to be updated or the device is not supported.
- The program belongs to a separate third-party channel, rental, or purchase.
An Apple TV subscription does not automatically include every third-party subscription or every piece of content offered inside the Apple TV app. If the match remains unavailable, check your Apple Account’s subscriptions and the billing receipt, then confirm the program is an MLS event covered by Apple’s current package.
Can bars and restaurants show MLS?
Commercial venues should not rely on a normal consumer Apple TV account. Apple has announced commercial distribution routes including DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS and EverPass Core, which can provide Apple’s live sports portfolio, including MLS, to eligible businesses.
Commercial pricing, equipment, contracts, and viewing rights differ from consumer subscriptions. Businesses should check current terms directly with DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS or EverPass.

For an existing Apple TV subscriber, MLS is effectively an included benefit: there is no extra MLS charge. For everyone else, the accurate description is “MLS is included with Apple TV,” not “MLS is completely free.”
The change is especially useful for fans who want MLS alongside Apple’s broader programming, households using Family Sharing, eligible students, and full-season ticket holders. It is less compelling for viewers who want only MLS and do not value the rest of the Apple TV service, because the separate MLS-only subscription no longer exists.
