Most AT&T U-verse customers watch television through a U-verse receiver connected to the TV with HDMI. Existing subscribers may also use the U-verse app on supported devices, including Amazon Fire TV, or watch selected programming on iOS and Android. The right setup depends on whether you have a receiver, an older television, a Fire TV device, or only a phone or tablet.
This guide covers installation, app viewing, receiver pairing, missing channels, “No signal” errors, and alternatives if you want to move away from receiver-based television.
Choose the setup that matches your equipment

AT&T’s current documentation specifically identifies Amazon Fire TV, iOS, and Android for U-verse app access. It does not establish universal support for Roku, Apple TV, Google TV, Samsung TVs, LG TVs, or game consoles. Check the current app listing for your exact device before buying hardware.

How to connect U-verse to your TV with HDMI
Use HDMI if both the receiver and television have HDMI ports. You need an active U-verse TV subscription, the receiver, a working power connection, an HDMI cable, and an available HDMI input on the TV.
- Find the HDMI port on the back of the U-verse receiver.
- Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the receiver.
- Connect the other end to an HDMI input on the TV. Note the input number, such as HDMI 1 or HDMI 2.
- Leave the receiver’s network cable and the cable labeled TO WALL connected. These are not optional video cables.
- Turn on the receiver and television.
- Using the TV remote, press Input, Source, or TV/Video.
- Select the HDMI input used by the receiver.
- When the TV displays “Press OK to Watch TV,” use the U-verse remote: press AT&T, then OK.
- Follow any on-screen instructions to configure high-definition viewing.
The two remotes have different jobs: the TV remote selects the physical input, while the U-verse remote operates the receiver and confirms the Watch TV prompt.
How to connect U-verse with coaxial cable
Coaxial is mainly an older-equipment solution. It may not provide the same picture quality as HDMI, and the exact output depends on the receiver and television.

- Connect it to the television’s VIDEO IN connection with a coaxial cable.
- Keep the receiver’s network cable and TO WALL cable connected.
- Turn on the receiver and TV.
- Using the TV remote, tune the television to Channel 3.
- Press OK on the U-verse screen.
- On the U-verse remote, press AT&T, then OK.

How to watch U-verse with the app on Amazon Fire TV
Existing qualifying U-verse subscribers may be able to watch available live and on-demand programming through the official U-verse app on Amazon Fire TV. AT&T says the app is available in the United States for supported Apple iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire TV devices at no additional charge for U-verse TV subscribers. Internet access, an active subscription, compatible hardware, and any required data service still apply.
- Connect the Amazon Fire TV device to the television.
- Connect Fire TV to the internet.
- Open the Amazon app store and search for the official U-verse app.
- Install it if it is available for your device and region.
- Open the app and sign in with the AT&T ID associated with your U-verse account.
- Choose available live or on-demand programming.
Availability can vary by device, TV plan, and viewing location. The app should not be treated as a guaranteed replacement for every receiver feature, channel, recording, or interactive function. AT&T’s U-verse app page and support documentation contain the current platform and availability information.

How to use U-verse on a phone or tablet
The U-verse app for iOS and Android can provide mobile viewing and account-related TV functions. Depending on the device, plan, location, and program, it may let you:

- Stream selected live channels.
- Watch available on-demand programs.
- Open the program guide.
- View and schedule DVR recordings.
- Change channels on a connected receiver.
- Pause, rewind, or fast-forward supported content.
- Adjust closed captions or secondary audio where available.
AT&T’s documented app areas include My U-verse, Guide, Recordings, On Demand, More From AT&T, and Settings. Cellular data charges may apply when you are not using Wi-Fi.
Pair the U-verse app with your receiver
Receiver control requires more than simply installing the app. Each receiver intended for app control may need to be enabled and paired.
- Using the U-verse remote, tune the receiver to Channel 9301.
- Run the Set-Up Wizard on each receiver you want to use.
- Connect the phone or tablet to your AT&T home Wi-Fi network, not cellular data or a different Wi-Fi network.
- Open the U-verse app.
- Add or select the receiver.
- If prompted, enter the code displayed on Channel 9301.
- Restart the receiver if AT&T’s setup process instructs you to do so.
If the receiver is locked or awaiting authorization, the app may not control it until the displayed code and setup process are completed. AT&T’s receiver-pairing instructions cover the enabled-app setup.
Can you mirror U-verse from a phone to the TV?
Do not assume that mobile app viewing automatically supports screen mirroring. AT&T’s cited documentation does not establish universal support for Chromecast, AirPlay, wired phone-to-TV output, or every form of screen mirroring.

Use network apps with U-verse credentials
For selected local broadcasts, a network’s own app or website may accept U-verse authentication:
- Open the network’s app or website.
- Select a program.
- Choose Yes when asked whether you have a TV provider.
- Select U-verse TV from the provider list.
- Sign in with the AT&T ID and password associated with the service.
AT&T specifically identifies ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and The CW among the network options on its channel-change and network-app support page. Market, program, and authentication availability can change.
This is only a partial workaround. Network apps do not reproduce the complete U-verse guide, DVR, channel lineup, or every channel.

Find the U-verse guide and channel lineup
On a receiver, press Guide on the U-verse remote. In the mobile app, open Guide.
Channel lineups vary by service location and package. Confirm your ZIP code or service address, exact U-verse package, and whether the missing channel is regional, package-restricted, temporarily unavailable, or affected by a carriage dispute. AT&T provides lineup information through its guide and channel-lineup support.
Troubleshoot U-verse on your TV
If the TV says “No signal”
- Confirm that the TV is powered on.
- Press Input, Source, or TV/Video on the TV remote.
- Select the exact HDMI port connected to the receiver.
- Confirm that the receiver has power.
- Reseat the HDMI cable at both ends.
- Try another HDMI input.
- Try a known-good HDMI cable.
- Restart the receiver.
- Check that the network and TO WALL cables were not disconnected.
For a coaxial setup, verify that the cable runs from TO TV on the receiver to VIDEO IN on the television, then tune the TV to Channel 3.

If the U-verse screen appears but channels do not load
Check the receiver’s network connection, account status, package, and whether the problem affects every channel or only selected channels. Restart the receiver and check AT&T’s U-verse support hub for service information.
If only certain channels are missing while other channels work, do not immediately replace the HDMI cable or receiver. AT&T notes that channel-owner agreements can affect availability, and some local broadcasts may be available through the network’s own app.
If the app cannot find the receiver
- Put the mobile device on the home Wi-Fi network.
- Run the receiver’s setup wizard on Channel 9301.
- Select the correct receiver in the app.
- Complete any displayed pairing-code process.
- Restart both the app and receiver.
- Confirm that the app has a working internet connection and required permissions.
If app login fails
- Use the AT&T ID linked to U-verse TV.
- Check the password.
- Confirm that the account is active.
- Choose U-verse TV rather than another AT&T service.
- Check whether the program is available under your plan and in your location.
Do not use unofficial APKs, IPTV services, unauthorized streams, or another person’s credentials.
If the remote does not work
First identify which function is failing. Use the TV remote for input selection and the U-verse remote for receiver controls. Replace or reseat the remote batteries, point the remote directly at the receiver, and restart the receiver if buttons remain unresponsive.

As of August 18, 2026, AT&T continues to publish support and pricing information for existing U-verse TV customers. That does not mean every package is available to new customers or that prices and channel lineups are unchanged.

AT&T announced U-verse package price increases beginning on or after June 25, 2026. The published increases ranged from $3 to $23 per month depending on the package, and the Broadcast TV Fee was scheduled to increase by $1 per month. Changing packages can affect discounts. Check AT&T’s current pricing notice and your account before making a change.

What to use if you want a streaming replacement
If you no longer have U-verse, want app-only viewing, or need broader smart-TV compatibility, an internet-based live-TV service may be more suitable. None of these services preserves your U-verse account, receiver, DVR, exact lineup, or AT&T authentication.
- DIRECTV streaming: A fit for viewers who want a cable-like interface, large channel packages, sports coverage, or an optional Gemini device. Compare the promotional price with the regular recurring price, equipment charges, taxes, fees, and add-ons at the official packages page.
- YouTube TV: A fit for viewers who prioritize broad device support and an app-first live-TV experience. Check local stations, sports, add-ons, and current terms at YouTube TV’s signup page.
- Sling TV, Hulu + Live TV, and Fubo: These may suit viewers with different sports, news, entertainment, or budget priorities. Compare your ZIP-code-specific local channels, DVR rules, simultaneous streams, add-ons, and regular pricing before switching.
Do not replace a functioning U-verse setup merely because the TV shows “No signal.” The cause is often the wrong input, a loose cable, a power issue, or a receiver restart requirement.
