Yes—but not every Samsung TV can do it. Samsung’s integration with Stingray Karaoke lets a supported phone act as a microphone while a compatible Samsung Smart TV displays lyrics and plays the music-and-vocal mix through its speakers. The feature runs through Stingray Karaoke and Samsung SmartThings, so it is an app-specific karaoke mode—not a universal way to use any phone as a microphone for every TV app.
What Samsung’s Mobile Microphone feature does
The setup combines four parts:
- Stingray Karaoke: provides the licensed karaoke tracks, lyrics, search, playlists and song queue.
- Samsung SmartThings: links the phone to the television.
- Mobile Microphone: uses the phone’s built-in microphone as the vocal input.
- Samsung Daily+: the TV hub Samsung uses to direct users to Stingray Karaoke.
After pairing, the TV remains the large-screen display and audio output, while the phone captures the singer’s voice. Samsung and Stingray describe the vocal mixing as real-time and without delay; that is a product claim, not an independently measured latency result. Compatibility: check before you buy
Support depends on the television model, region, Tizen version, software rollout and Stingray’s app availability. It is too broad to say that every 2025 Samsung TV supports Mobile Microphone.

Because Samsung’s model lists and Stingray’s newer Tizen-based description do not map perfectly, the definitive test is whether Stingray Karaoke on your TV displays the Mobile Mic option and accepts your phone. How to set it up
- Install or update SmartThings on the phone.
- Connect the phone and Samsung TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Register or connect the TV in SmartThings.
- Press Home on the Samsung remote.
- Open Daily+ and launch Stingray Karaoke. Menu names or app placement may vary by region and software version.
- Choose a song or open the karaoke microphone function.
- Scan the QR code shown on the TV with the phone.
- Follow the Mobile Mic instructions on the phone.
- Keep the phone unlocked and sing into its microphone while the lyrics and music play through the TV.
Keep at least 3 metres (10 feet) between the phone and the TV, as Stingray recommends, to reduce the chance of feedback. The phone’s screen must remain on; locking it disables the microphone function.
Does it support multiple singers?
Not through multiple connected phones. Samsung’s support documentation says that only one mobile device can be connected at a time. A group can share that phone, but this feature should not be confused with a two-microphone party system.
Stingray’s current support information also says that external or plug-in microphones are not compatible with its Samsung TV app. A separate karaoke speaker or PA system may accept several microphones, but that would be a different audio setup rather than an extension of Mobile Microphone.

Is Stingray Karaoke free?
The phone-microphone function is part of a karaoke service with a catalog and licensing requirements, not simply a free feature built into every Samsung television.
Trial terms vary by region, model, date and promotion. Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement offered a six-month Stingray Karaoke trial for qualifying new 2025 TVs, with a redemption deadline of December 31, 2025, plus a separate one-month offer for some 2023 and 2024 TVs. Those launch promotions should not be treated as current offers in 2026.
Stingray’s newer support page describes a three-month trial for 2025 and 2026 Samsung TVs at the time of its publication, and a standard one-month trial for older models. Check the offer shown inside the Stingray app before subscribing. A current U.S. post-trial price is not established by the available documentation, so the in-app subscription screen is the reliable source.

How many songs are available?
Samsung and Stingray advertise a catalog of more than 100,000 licensed songs, spanning genres such as pop, rock, country, R&B and hip-hop. Samsung says users can search by title, artist, lyrics or genre in more than 30 languages, receive weekly song updates and queue up to 100 songs.

What it is like in practice
Advantages
- No separate microphone is required for the supported phone-based setup.
- Lyrics remain visible on the TV rather than on a small phone screen.
- QR-code pairing is faster than assembling a mixer, receiver and microphone system.
- It suits casual solo singing and small gatherings.
- The phone interface is familiar and easy to hand to the next singer.
Limitations
- Only one phone can connect at a time.
- The phone must stay awake while you sing.
- Compatibility is restricted by model, operating system, region and app rollout.
- Wi-Fi and SmartThings are part of the setup.
- Feedback can occur if the phone is too close to the TV speakers.
- The Stingray catalog may require a subscription after the trial.
- The phone microphone is not the same as a stage microphone.
- TV speakers generally offer less vocal projection and microphone control than karaoke hardware.
For perspective, Samsung lists the 50-inch U8000F with 20W two-channel audio. That specification describes the television, not proof of Mobile Mic support, but it illustrates why a large screen should not be mistaken for a powerful karaoke sound system. Common problems and fixes
The Mobile Mic option is missing
- Update Stingray Karaoke on the TV.
- Check the TV’s model, region and Tizen version.
- Confirm that the phone is supported by the current pairing screen.
- Update and open SmartThings.
- Register the TV in SmartThings.
- Confirm that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Launch Stingray from Home → Daily+, rather than using generic screen mirroring.
- Scan the QR code shown inside Stingray Karaoke.
- Restart the app and TV if pairing does not complete.
The first requirements are documented prerequisites; the final restart steps are practical recovery measures, not a universal manufacturer-certified troubleshooting sequence.
There is screeching or feedback
- Move at least 3 metres (10 feet) from the TV.
- Do not point the phone directly at the TV speakers.
- Lower the TV volume.
- Keep the phone away from a soundbar or other nearby speaker.
The phone stops working during a song
- Keep its screen unlocked.
- Prevent battery-saving settings from suspending SmartThings.
- Make sure Wi-Fi has not switched to another network.
- Charge the phone before a long karaoke session.
Should you buy a Samsung TV for karaoke?
Buy the TV primarily for its picture quality, size, operating system and other everyday features. Treat karaoke as a valuable bonus unless you have confirmed that the exact model, region and phone are supported and you intend to use Stingray regularly.
The feature makes the most sense if you already own a compatible Samsung TV and want occasional karaoke without buying extra equipment. It is less attractive if you need several singers, loud vocal projection, echo controls, independent microphone volume or a setup that works without a subscription.

For those needs, consider a dedicated karaoke speaker with wireless microphones, or a PA speaker and mixer. These options cost more and require more storage and setup, but they are designed for vocal amplification and may provide multiple microphone inputs. A generic phone-karaoke app or Bluetooth microphone should not be assumed to work with Stingray’s Samsung integration.
Verdict
Samsung’s Mobile Microphone feature is real and useful: on supported hardware, your phone supplies the microphone, Stingray supplies the karaoke content, SmartThings provides the connection, and the TV supplies the lyrics and sound. Its convenience is the selling point—not professional audio performance.
For casual solo karaoke, it can turn an existing compatible Samsung TV into an entertaining living-room stage. For duets, large parties or serious singers, a dedicated karaoke speaker or PA system remains the better tool.
