Apple TV+ costs $12.99 per month in the U.S. after a seven-day free trial for eligible new subscribers. It includes Apple Original series, films, documentaries, children’s programming, and U.S. sports Apple currently promotes, including Formula 1, MLS, and Friday Night Baseball. You do not need an Apple device: the service works through the Apple TV app on supported smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, Apple devices, and the web.
A subscription can be shared with up to five other family members through Apple Family Sharing. Rentals, purchases, premium channels, Netflix, Disney+, and other third-party services are not automatically included.

What is Apple TV+?
Apple TV+—increasingly marketed by Apple simply as Apple TV—is Apple’s subscription streaming service. It is different from two similarly named products:
- Apple TV+ or Apple TV subscription: the streaming service containing Apple Originals and other included programming.
- Apple TV app: the application used to watch Apple subscription content, but also to access rentals, purchases, channels, sports, and supported third-party services.
- Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD: separate Apple streaming hardware. Buying one is not required to subscribe.
The distinction matters because a title appearing in the Apple TV app is not necessarily included in the subscription.

How much does Apple TV+ cost?
As of August 16, 2026, Apple’s U.S. product page lists Apple TV at $12.99 per month after a seven-day free trial for eligible users. Applicable taxes may affect the final amount.
Apple’s current U.S. pages present the service as a single subscription tier and do not show a separate ad-supported plan or premium tier. That does not mean every surface in the wider Apple TV app is free of promotions, trailers, sponsorship references, or advertising from third-party services.
Do not assume an annual price: Apple’s current official U.S. pricing information cited here verifies the monthly price, not a current annual plan.

The core offering is Apple’s library of original programming, including dramas, comedies, science fiction, documentaries, films, and children’s shows. Apple’s U.S. page also lists these sports as included with the subscription:
- Formula 1
- Major League Soccer
- Friday Night Baseball
Sports availability depends on the country, event rights, schedule, regional restrictions, blackout rules, and device. Apple’s sports description should not be read as a worldwide guarantee that every event is available everywhere.
What is not included?
Apple TV+ does not automatically include:
- Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Prime Video, or other third-party subscriptions.
- Every movie or show displayed in the Apple TV app.
- Movies offered for separate rental or purchase.
- Premium Apple TV channels unless you subscribe to them separately.
The Apple TV app works partly as a storefront and aggregation hub. Look for inclusion details rather than assuming that every title on screen belongs to the subscription catalog.
Which devices support Apple TV?
Apple supports the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV hardware, and Apple Vision Pro. It is also available on many smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, and AirPlay-enabled devices. Apple maintains a current list of supported platforms at tv.apple.com/extensions.

Smart TVs and streaming devices
Many models from brands and platforms such as Samsung, LG, Vizio, Sony, Roku, and Fire TV support the app, but brand-level support is not a guarantee. Availability can depend on the exact model, operating system, software version, country, and manufacturer.
Search for the Apple TV app in your television or streaming device’s app store. If it is missing, update the device, check your account region, try tv.apple.com, or use a supported streaming player, game console, or AirPlay setup.
Windows, Android, and web access
Do not assume that every Android phone, Android TV device, Windows computer, or tablet has identical native-app support. If your device does not offer the app, try the web version at tv.apple.com. Browser features can vary by operating system and browser.
Can you watch without Apple hardware?
Yes. You can watch without an iPhone, Mac, or Apple TV box if you have a compatible smart TV, streaming player, game console, browser, or AirPlay-enabled setup. Apple TV+ and Apple TV hardware are separate purchases.
How does Family Sharing work?
One subscription can be shared with up to five other family members, for a maximum of six people, through Apple Family Sharing. This is a documented family-group arrangement, not unrestricted password sharing. Family Sharing has its own organizer and account rules.
Apple’s verified guidance confirms the number of family members who can share the subscription, but it does not establish a universal simultaneous-stream limit in the sources used here. Do not confuse “six family members” with “six people can always watch at once.”
How do free trials and promotions work?
Apple currently advertises a seven-day free trial for eligible subscribers. Separate promotions may accompany qualifying Apple hardware. Such offers can include claim deadlines, eligibility limits, one-off redemption rules, operating-system requirements, and automatic paid renewal.

Before accepting an offer, check the displayed price and renewal date. After subscribing, open Manage Subscriptions and record the billing date so an unwanted trial does not become a paid month.
Is Apple TV included with Apple One?
Yes. Apple TV is included in Apple One, alongside other Apple services. Apple One may make sense if your household already uses services such as Apple Music, iCloud+, or Apple Arcade. It is not automatically cheaper if you want only Apple TV; compare the bundle with your existing services and local pricing.
Apple’s U.S. Apple TV page also says students receive Apple TV with the Apple Music Student Plan. Eligibility, verification, renewal, and regional terms apply.
Can you download shows for offline viewing?
Apple Support lists offline downloads on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Do not assume downloads are available on every smart TV, streaming stick, browser, or game console. Title licensing, storage, account status, device limits, and expiration rules can also affect downloads.
Does Apple TV support 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, or Dolby Atmos?
Quality depends on the title, device, television, internet connection, and audio equipment. Apple’s app listing states that HDR playback may not be available for all content or on all devices. A subscription alone does not guarantee 4K, Dolby Vision, or Dolby Atmos on every setup.

- Sign in with an Apple Account.
- Select the subscription or trial offer shown for your account.
- Review the price, trial period, billing date, and terms.
- Confirm the subscription.
Button names and menus can vary by device, operating system, country, and billing platform.

On an iPhone, Apple’s documented path is:
- Open the Apple TV app.
- Tap Home.
- Tap your profile picture or initials.
- Tap Manage Subscriptions.
- Follow the cancellation instructions.
If you subscribed through Google Play, cancel in the Apple TV app on an Android device or through Google Play. Subscriptions billed by another provider generally must be canceled through that provider.

Is Apple TV+ worth it?
Apple TV+ is a strong fit if you specifically want Apple Originals, Apple-promoted U.S. sports, a simple single-tier service, or a subscription you can share through Family Sharing. Apple One users may also find it convenient as part of an existing bundle.
It is a weaker fit if you want the largest back catalog, live television, broad local programming, an ad-supported price tier, or one service that includes Netflix, Disney+, and other platforms. Its value is concentrated in premium original programming rather than sheer catalog size.
A practical approach is to start with the eligible trial, note the renewal date, and decide whether the household will watch enough Apple content to justify keeping the service. If you want only one show, subscribing for a month and canceling afterward may be more sensible than paying year-round.
Common problems and fixes
The Apple TV app is missing
Check the device’s app store, update its software, verify your country or region, and consult Apple’s supported-device list. If the app remains unavailable, use the web version or a supported streaming device, console, or AirPlay setup.
A movie has a rental price
The Apple TV app includes separately paid rentals and purchases. A rental or purchase price means the title is not necessarily part of Apple TV+.
A sports event is unavailable
Check the event’s local rights, blackout rules, schedule, country, and device requirements. U.S. sports availability should not be generalized to other markets.
A trial became a paid subscription
Open Manage Subscriptions immediately after signing up, confirm the renewal date, and cancel through the platform that bills you.
