The easiest way to watch Amazon Prime Video on your television is to install the Prime Video app directly on a compatible smart TV or streaming device, then register it with your Amazon account. If your TV does not support the app, use an HDMI streaming device such as Fire TV, Roku, Google TV Streamer, or Apple TV. You can also cast from a compatible phone.
These instructions assume the United States. App availability, subscriptions, titles, and device support can vary by country, TV model, software version, and account.
What you need
- An Amazon account with access to the Prime Video title you want to watch
- A supported smart TV, HDMI streaming device, or compatible casting target
- A working broadband internet connection and home Wi-Fi network
- The TV remote, or the streaming device’s remote
- An available HDMI port if you are using an external device
- An HDMI cable if your device requires one and does not include it
Amazon lists Prime Video support across smart TVs, Fire TV devices, streaming players, game consoles, Blu-ray players, and other media devices. Confirm compatibility for your exact model and region in Amazon’s device and registration help.

Method 1: Install Prime Video on a smart TV
This is normally the simplest option because it requires no additional hardware or phone.

- Turn on the TV and connect it to the internet through its network settings.
- Open the TV’s app store or app screen.
- Search for Prime Video.
- Download and install the app.
- Open Prime Video and choose the sign-in or registration option shown.
- Register the TV using the displayed QR code, activation code, mobile-app prompt, or your Amazon-account credentials.
- Select a profile if requested, choose a title, and test playback.
Amazon’s general process is app store, search, install, open, and register. Some devices show a QR code or a code that must be entered on Amazon’s device-registration page. Use only the website or sign-in method displayed by the official app.
Where to find the app on different TVs
Menu names differ by manufacturer and model:
- Samsung: Apps screen or the TV’s app store
- LG: LG Content Store
- Roku TV: Streaming Store or Search
- Google TV or Android TV: Apps or Google Play
- Vizio: The TV’s smart-platform app area
- Sony: Google TV or Android TV app interface
- Hisense and TCL: The menu depends on the platform installed on the model
A TV being labeled “smart” does not guarantee that it currently supports Prime Video. Availability can depend on the TV’s operating system, country setting, software version, and Amazon’s support for that model.
Method 2: Connect a Fire TV Stick or another HDMI streaming device
An external streaming device is often the best solution for an older TV, a slow smart-TV interface, or a television whose built-in Prime Video app is no longer available.

Fire TV Stick setup
- Plug the Fire TV Stick into an available HDMI port on the television.
- Connect it to power using the supplied adapter or power cable as directed by Amazon.
- Turn on the TV and select the HDMI input corresponding to the port you used.
- Pair the remote if prompted.
- Connect Fire TV to your Wi-Fi network.
- Sign in with your Amazon account.
- Open Prime Video, select a title, and test playback.
HDMI carries the picture and sound, but it does not necessarily power a streaming stick. If the device repeatedly restarts, use the supplied power adapter rather than assuming the TV’s USB port provides enough power. Amazon’s setup overview is available at About Amazon.
If the TV shows “No signal,” check the selected input, reseat the HDMI connection, try another HDMI port, and confirm that the device has power.
Other HDMI streaming options
Roku, Google TV Streamer, and Apple TV install Prime Video through their respective platform interfaces. The broad process is the same: connect the device to HDMI and power, select the correct input, connect it to Wi-Fi, complete account setup, open the platform’s app store, install Prime Video, and register the device.

- Roku: A platform-neutral choice with broad streaming-service support. Roku says its streaming players connect to TVs with HDMI. See its TV requirements and setup instructions.
- Google TV Streamer: A strong fit for Google and Android households and frequent phone casting. Google’s U.S. product page lists it at $99.99 and says an HDMI 2.1 cable is required but sold separately; check the live page for current details at Google Store.
- Apple TV 4K: Best suited to households using iPhone, iPad, Mac, or other Apple devices. Apple confirms HDMI compatibility and says the HDMI cable is sold separately. Check the current model and price at Apple’s U.S. store.
Do not assume that every device provides identical app menus, picture formats, or casting behavior. Streaming-device models, software, regional support, and prices change.

Method 3: Cast Prime Video from an iPhone or Android phone
Casting is different from mirroring your entire phone screen. It sends playback from the Prime Video app to a compatible TV or streaming device, and the app must support the target.
- Turn on the TV and its Chromecast, Android TV, Google TV, or compatible Fire TV device.
- Connect the phone and TV or streaming device to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open the Prime Video mobile app.
- Tap the Cast icon.
- Choose the available TV or streaming device.
- Select a title and start playback.
Amazon’s casting guidance identifies the same-network requirement. On an iPhone, open Settings, find Prime Video, enable Local Network, then reopen the app if the Cast button cannot find the device.

For Fire TV casting, Amazon says the phone and Fire TV should use the same Wi-Fi network and be signed in to the same Amazon account. A Fire TV device will not necessarily appear in every phone’s Cast list; availability depends on the app, device, software, and network configuration.

Use this as a fallback when the TV app and streaming devices are unavailable.
- Connect the computer’s HDMI output to an HDMI input on the TV.
- Select the matching HDMI source on the TV.
- Open Prime Video in a supported browser.
- Start playback.
- If necessary, change the computer’s display mode between duplicate and extended desktop.
Resolution, audio output, and protected-content behavior can depend on the computer, browser, cable, adapter, and entire display chain. For regular viewing, a native TV or streaming-device app is usually simpler.

Which connection method should you choose?

If the TV has no HDMI port, modern streaming players may not be practical without a compatible legacy converter. In that situation, replacing the display or using a newer TV-connected device is often more reliable than trying to adapt an obsolete connection.
Fix common Prime Video connection problems

| Prime Video cannot be found | Confirm the TV is online, update its software, search for the exact name, check the country or region setting, and verify support for the model. If the app remains unavailable, use an HDMI streaming device. |
| Activation code or QR code fails | Check that the code has not expired, generate a new one, confirm the browser is signed in to the intended Amazon account, restart the app, and repeat registration through the official Amazon page. |
| Sign-in loop | Force-close Prime Video, restart the TV or device, sign out and register again, check the network and device time, and temporarily disable a VPN, DNS filter, or captive portal. |
| Cast button is missing | Put both devices on the same Wi-Fi network, avoid guest-network isolation, enable Prime Video’s Local Network permission on iPhone, update the app, and restart both devices. Use the native app if casting continues to fail. |
| TV says “No signal” | Select the correct HDMI input, reseat the HDMI and power connections, try another HDMI port, remove switches or receivers temporarily, and test the streaming device on another TV if possible. |
